I was so excited to eat there and my expectations were more than met. Every single dish served was exquisite! Our server Lupina was gracious and attentive down to the detail. We had 2 bottles of Greek wine that were perfection! All 6 of us enjoyed our meal which included a 12 year old boy who tasted and loved the grilled pulpo.

I love every Jose Andres restaurant I've been to and this one is no different. The service was great, the wattress gave an excellent wine recommendation, and the food was delicious. I am particularly fond of the kibbeh nayeh and shish tayouk but I've never had anything (I've been to this Zaytinya like 5 times) off the menu that I didn't like. It does get busy though, so reservations are a good idea.

Went here for our first dinner on our honeymoon. The food was great and they even offered us a free glass of champagne to celebrate our occasion. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting to experience medaterrainian food.

First time here and I really enjoyed it. It's very vibrant so don't expect to be able to have a cozy table without hearing others around you. Food is absolutely delicious and every dish is expertly and carefully prepared. I tried many new things and enjoyed everything and I will definitely come back to this restaurant.

Loved every bite. Wait staff was helpful and discrete. Great options for vegetarians. Lamb and octopus were brilliant. Greek and Turkish wines surprisingly lovely. Innovative take on Mediterranean stand-bys. Please open an SF location!

What a lovely surprise! We chose the restaurant based on Chef Andres' reputation
and our attempt to find authentic mezze.
We were not disappointed.
The food was delicious.
Only complaint was that the restaurant was very noisy but that might be a reflection on how very busy the restaurant is.
We definitely plan on returning.

I took my 10 year old granddaughter there for our last night in DC and we both loved the food and the attentive service. The noise level is very high--a bit too much for quiet conversation, but it was still fun. It is an energetic place that was extremely busy and obviously well liked. We came on a Monday evening around 6 PM expecting a sparse crowd but were very amazed by the people pouring in and the tables filling up quickly. We had made reservations--good thing we did. I like the idea of serving the food tapas style. We could nibble from different Greek plates and spent the evening grazing on all kinds of tasty options. It was really fun and the tables are close together so you can strike up a conversation with the people seated next to you, if you like, which we did and thoroughly enjoyed. I would definitely go there again!

Excellent food and too numerous to count tapas plates! The timing was a bit off with packed restaurant. We had a 30 minute space between the port being served and desserts arriving. This made us order a second port course- since it was all gone before desserts arrived.

Been before. This is a good place, but quite loud and energetic and crowded. Small plate foods, so I think of this as more of a tapas bar, but I did order the chef's selection this time so got a large variety. Other than the pita and dessert, I can't say the food I had was too memorable, but it was overall a good meal. Got what I expected. Might try different dishes next time.

It was chaos at the hostess stand when we entered the restaurant but then we were seated a lovely table. The food and service were very good. The hostess's ability to deal with the crowd did not match the level of service demonstrated by the other staff. She was overwhelmed which made the guests waiting feel anxious.

This place quickly became our favorite restaurant of all time. Brought my family here (were from out of state) for a "last night in DC meal". The ambiance is a 10 - but the food is the standout here. We split everything family style and each dish was perfection. Can't wait to get back!

What a total disappointment. I don't know whether it's the curse of Michelin, Tom Siemstma or Saturday night but it was god-awful. It's true we asked for a quiet table (we were 6); we were pushed into a weird boo5h....literally up against the wall on 2 s8des...next to the kitchen. Our entertainment was the swinging doors & the waiters coming & going in perpetual motion.
Ah the se4vice. What service? our waitress was a veritable Houdini...disappearing for long stretches; forgetting something as simple as ginger ale. & when it did arrive, it was flat!
The food took forever to emerge. It would be better if it hadn't. 2 eggplant dishes....baba ghanous & Fried both tasted peculiar. The lamb kibbeh was overcooked. the Jamison lamb....which our waitress actually recommended was a mushy mess.
it is now 10p.... 3 hours after our reservatiom. & 2 of the guests were still awaiting their cheese plate.
I should say that of the 6 of us, 5 were friends of mine from out of town. I had recommended Zaytinia highly to them . Finally during g our 3 1/2 stat....no one who looked or acted anything like "management" ever appeared to ask how things were going. How lucky for them.
in fairness, the apricot desert & the lamb chops were delicious.

We enjoyed Zaytinya, as usually, very much. We were taken punctually and the food was outstanding. Service was a little slow. We had lunch at Cava the day before and it was a stark difference in quality of food and attitude of waitstaff, the waitress at Cava was rude and so was the manager and the food lacked the usual flair. Won't go to Cava again.
Zaytinya is rather noisy. I was happy to find out the owner Jose has 3 other restaurants of different nationality and next time I am in DC, we will have to try them.

We were promptly seated upon arriving for our reservation. The food and service were great. I would highly recommend the hummus as it was probably the best I've ever had!! Great atmosphere and the outdoor seating area looked nice as well. I look forward to returning again in the future.

We used to love Zaytinya, but not this time.
The beginning was fine. However, when the dishes started to come, the servers were too lazy to walk around to distribute the plates. But the worst part came later. The waitress seemed to be too motivated to rush us (4 adults and 2 kids) out of the restaurant. Right after we said no coffee or dessert (we didn't finish our entrees yet), she asked 2 servers to come and clean the table when we were still working on our food and talking. I was treating a long-time friend's family (we hadn't seen each other for 7 years) and that experience was truly embarrassing.
I'd expect much better service especially after the recent escalation of the restaurant. But what I have experienced is certainly not good.

Thank you all! It was a very special night for me, and Zaytinya made it even better. I appreciate Chiaub "Think that's how you spell the waiters name" and his outstanding service! Everything was great, seems very friendly, the host was great, bussers awesome.

We have in the past enjoyed the restaurant. This last visit was a disappointment.
Food did seem as fresh, the classic rice dish was dry and flavorless. The chicken was old and dry. With the exception of the fried eggplant, all the other warm dishes tasted re-heated and dry.
Even dessert was lackluster.

Extremely noisy restaurant. Upstairs seating nothing special, looking a bit tired. Airconditioning made it rather cold and drafty. Food was ok but nothing special, warm dishes came lukewarm to the table. Considering the price tag it should be better and the same goes for the bottle of wine, which was mediocre at best. On the upside: the service was good, the waiter really tried his best. It's a restaurant that is capitalising on José Andrés' name, but is not delivering the goods.
