Our 33rd Anniversary and it was a lovely evening. We started at the bar having cocktails. I had a delicious Pear Martini. I highly recommend it. We were seated in a quiet little candlelit spot. My husband had the South African lobster tail and I the crab cakes...both amazing. The service is always spot on. This place never disappoints.

Five star experience. Dinner with an old friend on Friday October 21, 2016, and it could not have been better. The inn has been beautifully updated since my last visit. The food was extraordinary. The waiter was pleasant, engaging, and, advised us well. We both had the duck breast with spinach and foie gras pudding (that I suggested from my past visits). Desserts were simply Devine -- creme brûlée and pumpkin cheesecake with homemade vanilla ice cream, as well as cappucino. My guest's first visit and she was well impressed. So looking forward to my next visit!

The place was packed (open only on Friday and Saturday in off-season) but we were seated almost immediately for our 7 p.m. reservation. Cocktails were reasonable ($11 for a Grey Goose martini), and there is an incredibly diverse and extensive wine list. Many bottles of classic wines went for hundreds of dollars, but there were also plenty in the $40-$60 dollar range. Our pinot noir from the Sonoma coast came in at $59 and was superb.
Godfrey, our waiter, who has been working at the Washington Inn for 17 years, was spot-on with his answers to our questions about the menu, which has plenty of interesting choices for all appetites. My roasted branzino (served whole with the head off and fileted) was delicious, moist and flaky, with crispy skin; and my partner's duck breast was the best she has ever had. The tower of chocolate mousse with strawberries was enough to split for dessert.
Certainly hope to go back next time we visit Cape May!

Consistency is the name off the game. I have been dining at the Washington Inn for 25 years as well as many other restaurants in Cape May. the Washington Inn is the only one that has been perfection in the food and service. On the last two occasions I had mentioned a special occasion being celebrated. Both times they brought a complimentary dessert honoring the occasion. I was very, very impressed. Thank you for your hospitality. We will continue to dine here. Many others have let us down in recent years and have become very overpriced.

The restaurant offers complimentary valet parking, which is awesome, the staff is very polite and helpful. Our server was terrific and very helpful with recommendations and wine pairing. Our food was absolutely delicious!! I couldn't finish my 16oz NY strip, but it was just as good the next day. I can't wait to visit again!! Highly recommend this restaurant!

Food was very good, it was the service that I was not pleased with.
Comparing our service to the other tables, our waiter was very inattentive , never asking how our meal was after we were served, and after we asked for the desert menu, we waited at least 10 minutes to be given one. The table next to ours, the waiter poured 2 additional cups of coffee, ours never asked if we wanted more coffee, just gave me the bill.

We went to the inn for our 10th anniversary. I have been there many years ago. Needless to say it is as wonderful as it was back then. My wife and I split the black fig, goat cheese, prosciutto appetizer. my wife decided to go Big and got the 16 oz NY Strip topped with mushrooms, roasted peppers with fingerling potatoes in a wonderful glaze. I had the filet topped with Gorgonzola with caramelized onions and a red wine demi.
For dessert we split bananas foster in a baked almond cone dish.
Everything was delicious, cooked perfectly and served professionally!

As usual, the Washington Inn is one of the best restaurants in Cape May, which is known for great restaurants. Marty is one of friendliest bartenders around, who always likes to make a fuss over my mother-in-law.
We have visited the Inn on many occasion ...
We have visited the Inn on many occasions over the years and usually have found it to be very pleasant with regard to the food, service and ambiance. However, this time my wife didn't think that the food lived up to its usual standard. The Oysters Rockefeller she ordered had too little spinach with the oysters, which were way too small for the amount of breadcrumbs they piled onto them - entirely killing the lovely fresh oyster taste to which we are accustomed. Then the NZ lamb chops, which were cooked perfectly, were smothered in a much too strong, thick gravy that, once again, killed the delicious lamb taste which we usually enjoy when there . They were very busy that night, so maybe that had something to do with it, as we have had little to complain about on our many prior visits. So trust the kitchen staff will see this review and make some adjustments. Overall, we have always enjoyed our visits to the Inn, and the service, as usual was excellent. We shall definitely return, but hope they will heed our constructive remarks, so that they retain the high quality of food to which we are accustomed when dining there.

We dined at the Washington Inn on our honeymoon and it was delightful. The building is beautiful and light, our server was fantastic and recommended the perfect bottle of wine for our selections, and she gave us a tour of the impressive wine cellar after our meal. It was a fantastic experience and we will go back!!

We received a gift certificate for a special occasion from family and went to the Washington Inn while we were in Cape May for an overnight stay. Food was very good, service was informal but attentive. The first twenty minutes of our meal had entertainment provided by a patron with an amazingly loud voice, but it wasn't such that we asked to be relocated. Fortunately, his party left before our entrees arrived.
Here's my one, really big complaint about the Washington Inn: because we had a significant gift certificate and are not regular visitors to Cape May, we took pains to use up the certificate. My companion and I each ordered a single malt that we had enjoyed tremendously about a year ago at home. We ordered it at the Washington Inn, and paid for it at the Washington Inn, but we were both surprised at its taste-- it had a pronounced peaty flavor that neither of us recognized from our last taste. It wasn't unpleasant, but it wasn't what we ordered. After returning home I confirmed that my taste buds weren't deceiving me. Disappointing, to say the least. The moral of the story, of course, is if you order a libation by name, you should have the courage to call the bar on it if you've gotten something else, but who really wants to start off the evening that way?

We try and get to the Washington Inn at least once a year. During the Xmas season or in the fall, it is a great place for a birthday, or holiday dinner. The ambiance, food, and service all come together for a great night. It is not cheap, but the place is one of the few restaurants that I can say is worth it. Thanks for another great birthday for my wife.

It was our 54th wedding anniversary so we looked for something special. Most everything about the evening fit the bill. Our waiter, Margo, was superb. He was friendly , knowledgeable and attentive. My wife started with the black fig and goat cheese appetizer and I tried the smoked octopus. Both were excellent. For entrees we had the filet mignon and the local sea bass special. Once again, nicely presented and delicious. For desert we shared a slice of their cheesecake which topped things off quite nicely.

I requested a nice seat, for an anniversary dinner for my wife and I not knowing what it looked like before hand.
They gave us a table downstairs right in front of the wine cellar. Amazing!
My wife had the Pork chops and I had the duck with foie gras. Both were unbelievable. The waitress was outstanding and knew her stuff. Great job all around

I enjoy dining here as often as I can. The food and service are awesome. I love the valet parking too, in the summer it's perfect, I work 7am to 7pm and to be able to just pull up out front and leave the parking the professionals. This place is my absolute favorite restaurant in Cape May

Last time we were in Cape May , we could not get a last minute reservation. So this visit we made sure we reserved well before our visit. The food was excellent and Godfrey was a great asset the this business. We were celebrating our anniversary. It turns out the 3 closes tables were doing the same plus 2 of those couples were actually married at the Washington inn.

Very special restaurant in Cape May. Highly recommend. Outstanding crab cakes and fish entrees! Only drawback is that seating for couples is located at back of restaurant which takes away some of the special ambience. Still great for special occasions.
