Veritas Tavern Ratings and Reviews
We love Veritas! We don't go out to eat as frequently as most people because I enjoy cooking and my husband usually says my meals are better than many restaurants. Veritas is different though. The food and presentation is always unique- definitely more creative than my cooking. Eating there is an experience, one we have shared with many of our friends. We usually get the tasting menu, but the ala cart menu is also tasty! The space is small and relaxed and the staff is great.
We had a reservation for 8:30 on a Saturday night. We came early, and were sat shortly after 8:30. There were only two of us, but we got a table, which seems uncommon as there is more bar seating than table top seating. The drinks are very particularly made, the service was warm, and the food was phenomenal. You could see the kitchen working the whole time, and the whole staff treated us well. I highly recommend for foodies, but if you want something less complicated, expensive, or want something more fast paced, I would recommend something else.
We have heard wonderful things about Veritas Tavern and let me tell you, their reputation is well deserved. The food was borderline amazing and the service was flawless. We dined for my boyfriend's birthday and it was a perfect place for our special occasion. Beautiful and quiet. We opted to enjoy the chef's tasting menu and all I can say is WOW! Bar, A+. Food, A+. Service, A+. We will be back!!
This was our first visit and I can't wait to go back. everything was prepared with great attention to both presentation and taste. Both my husband and I are former restaurant managers so we are very tough to please and we were really delighted. Loved the Brussel sprouts gnocchi, shoulder filet, banaa brownie desert!
This is an interesting, creative food experience, with courses that were very good to excellent-- the gnocchi was exceptional, the brussel sprouts very good, the ricotta a miss. It's a lively boisterous place -- and we had fun. This isn't the place for a conventional " lovely evening out". The seating isn't comfortable, it's loud, and the servers are ok. Not rude, but clearly signally that you are the lucky ones to be there drinking their drinks and eating their food. So, you are there for one reason -- the consumables: the decadent cocktails and the food. On balance, it was worth it, but not overly so. The best courses were truly delicious. The portions, though small and highly stylized, were fine. The presentation was nicely done, though about what you'd see in any haute cuisine place. But the combination of bar atmosphere and exotic food prep is compelling, and unique for this area, so big points for that. Other aspects were a pretentious bother, with the kind of fussy rules you'd expect (but don't in fact have to endure) at an Alain Ducasse restaurant:e.g. my spouse wanted the tasting menu and I didn't, BUT the portions are so "carefully measured" and "constructed" it is "impossible" to make it available for only one person in a party. Oo la la! Fess up. This is about convenience (theirs) and cost, not a culinary necessity. The website doesn't warn about this. Also be sure to read the website carefully if you have a dietary restriction; there are two sets of rules, one for the tasting menu and one for the small plates menu. Arrive without proper advance work at your peril. Not clear why you have to work so hard to order a meal, even an exceptional one. And this wasn't quite exceptional. So I suggest they loosen up and concentrate on taking a great menu with fair execution one step higher. Conclusion: it's interesting enough to warrant a second visit, and for a first timer, with a thorough pre-brief on applicable rules, it's worth a try.
Simply put, Veritas Tavern is the best restaurant in central Ohio. The tasting menu is truly amazing. I know of no other restaurant in the greater Columbus area that that makes such interesting and varied cocktails and prepares food of this caliber. Chef Josh Dalton and his staff are to be congratulated for offering such a terrific dining experience.
We dine out often in the Columbus area and wanted to give Delaware a try. We've enjoyed 1808 and read good things about Veritas. Well from the moment we walked in it was one of the worst dining experiences we've ever had. The bartender that greeted us was smug and condescending. My husband asked for a certain drink and was told "we don't make that here" and then just stared at us, not offering to make anything similar. The food choices were ridiculous and the quality of the tapas we did manage to order was subpar at best. Hush puppies were burnt and tasteless. Risotto had an awful taste to it. Wings weren't bad but the "whipped" blue cheese had absolutely no taste. The only positive was our waiter, who couldn't have been nicer, seemingly trying to overcompensate for the restaurant's many short comings. Will never understand how this restaurant lands on the top 10 in Columbus. Just glad we didn't bring friends, would've been embarrassing.
This was probably our 50th time at Veritas over the past 4 years. The menu is constantly changing and the choices keep getting better. We go often for the tasting menu and the craft cocktails. Our small town will miss this place when it moves to downtown Columbus.
We went here for a date night and had a great time! We made a reservation about a week in advance which is definitely recommended! We got two spots at the bar and it was great. We weren't rushed at all and could just enjoy the drinks and tasty dishes! I can't wait to go back. You can tell how seriously the staff takes their job and it shows in how amazing the food and drinks are.
The server was wonderful. Totally made up for the fact that the bartender was a pompous jerk. If you have any questions about cocktails, be prepared to be treated like an idiot! The bartender was tall and slender with longer hair and appeared to have eye makeup on. To be fair, he made a MEAN cocktail. But he was a jerk.
Again, the server was delightful. It's a fun place to go for tapas and a couple drinks!
Dining at Veritas Tavern is a unique, warm, delicious, inventive dining experience. Great for
Foodies, we tried different ingredients and combinations of food we would not have dreamed of ordering and enjoyed every bite! The staff is warm and friendly and know a great deal about the food and wine. We will be back!
Food was a bit lacking. Service was slow and seemed less interested in taking care of our table in comparison to other tables. When I wasn't sure what cocktail to get, the waiter was quick to leave instead of offer suggestions. We thought maybe our age made them take us less seriously as guests. We sampled the entire menu. I thought buying the kitchen staff a round of drinks would help our experience - wrong. Tipped 20%, would have tipped more had the service cared more.
We sat at the bar and marveled at Tristan who is not a bartender but a drink artist. His creativity and flair for the unusual was fun to watch. If you go, ask him to make you one of his specialities, not on the menu. He seems to always be crafted new drinks.
Our party of four wanted to try the tasting menu. Some very unusual small plates comprised the nine courses. They were very creative. Some I could not imagine. Three out of four of us enjoyed the experience. I thought it was a bit price but it was rated #1 in Columbus Magazine. The cocktail list is very impressive as well. I would recommend s reservation on weekends.
