Urban Grub Ratings and Reviews

My son was in town for the Adele concert and we decided on Urban Grub for a pre-concert dinner. We were seated outside and the weather was perfect. There was a fire going in the outdoor fireplace and a beautiful breeze. We started with the charcuterie plate where you pick the meats and cheeses you want. Perfect start to dinner along with our wine. We each ordered something different. I had the shrimp and grits which was delicious with a little too much grits for me. My husband had the a pork shank, which he felt was a little small, especially for the price. My son had the spaghetti and meatballs. He ordered it because the meatballs were made with Wagyu beef. However, they were so spicey that it took away from the flavor of the meat. We were too full to try dessert, but maybe next time.

Loved Urban Grub! Spectacular meal with excellent service. Our waiter was fabulous. Coming from the Pacific NW we were excited to try both Gulf and East Coast oysters and he helped us narrow down our selection which we were very happy with. Great cocktails, all the dishes were delicious. We couldn't decide which was the best because they were all so good. Shrimp and grits, double pork chop, pork shank and fish special all were enjoyed. Sorghum cake with cream cheese frosting was big enough for 4 people. Only downside was our wine was a 2011 from Cahors that was over the hill. Disappointing that it was even an option. I would highly recommend Urban Grub and can't wait to go back!

Went here for brunch this past Sunday. We had the Lobster BLT for an appetizer, which tasted very fresh and delicious. My husband had the Oscar eggs benedict which he enjoyed, and I had the Hot Brown dish it was called, I believe? awesome comfort food. Desert was favorite, the banana cream pie is amazing!!! We are from Chicago and we are advising friends to stop here when they visit Nashville later this month!

Our small group of 6 dined on Friday, October 7, 2016. Overall, we were happy. However, our waiter wasn't overly friendly and seemed almost irritated to have to wait on us. Appetizers were good: oysters on half shell and wood-fired, plus peel & eat shrimp. Most of the food was delicious. Two of us ordered Shrimp & Grits, and they were the best I'd ever had in my life. Pork chop was divine, but the ribs were totally disappointing - TOUGH and DRY. Other guests ordered short rib enchilladas, and fish, which were both just OK.

I was unaware that my business dinner would be sat at the bar, had I known in advance, I would have scheduled elsewhere. The noise level was much too high for the type of dinner we had planned. This has not happened to us, at Urban Grub, before so I didn't consider it.

This restaurant was recommended to us by friends who had been here. First, I was thrilled when the waiter brought a warm bread basket with biscuits and cheese popovers which were GLUTEN FREE! Being celiac I've had to skip this part for over 30'years. I was in heaven. Light and airy cheese popovers made with tapioca flour!! I hadn't even asked. That is just how they make them. The roasted edamame were excellent as was my smoked chicken. Fall off the bone tender. My husband had rainbow trout, also excellent.
If the gluten free popovers weren't exciting enough for me they had a 12 layer sorghum cake with cream cheese frosting, also gluten free. Just beware and share. It's big.

The food and service was great. We had small children but our servers could not have been nicer. After we got home we realized that our waiter had forgotten a salad. We called and were given credit on our card. Loved the fireplace.

Fantastic evening with a group of 8. Server (Mike) was fantastic with great suggestions for meals. The group split a huge t-bone cooked perfectly, shrimp and grits (best I've ever had) and asparagus. The charcuterie plate was a perfect start and don't forget the donuts as a finisher!

This restaurant was very good. It's located in the !2th Avenue South district which is pretty cool in and of itself. Urban Grub had a good selection both on the brunch menu and the regular menu. The brioche french toast was particularly good as was the shrimp and grits. The complimentary valet is an added bonus! I would go back!

Our first experience at Urban Grub was definitely a hit! We had an awesome waitress, the food was incredible and the atmosphere upbeat and fun. We sat outside in the covered patio area, which was really authentic in decor. The only drawback was the flies we had to keep swatting away from the seafood. Other than that, it was a great experience overall. We will definitely be back!

Had this recommended to us by several people and so glad we gave it a go. Will be our new "go to" every time we travel to see our son at Belmont University. Shrimp and Grits to die for - could have licked the bowl clean if no one was watching! Double cut porkchop with peach salsa glaze melted in your mouth. We had 6 hungry college guys and we had everything from appetizers to dessert and everything was better than the next and everyone left stuffed! Great atmosphere and really neat booths that we'd hoped to sit in but we were moved to a table on the patio which nice, but had really wanted to visit with the guys and it was a bit noisy out there. Look forward to our next visit!!

This restaurant has not disappointed me yet. Garth's wine recommendations are always fantastic!
To note, this is literally the only place in Nashville I have never gotten food poisoning from oysters (5/5 vs. union common and the southern).

We arrived 30 minutes before our reservation and I told the host that it was fine if a table wasn't available because we would go grab a drink. She said, "No, it should be ready in a few minutes." We sure enough waited the 30 minutes and were seated at our reservation time. I was annoyed by that because we had to wait in a cramped hallway with tons of people for thirty minutes when I could have just went to get a drink.
Our server was extremely nice and accommodating and was probably the highlight of the experience even though he could have been a little more familiar with the menu.
We ordered charcuterie, oysters, and a few appetizers. The oysters were okay, have had better and worse in Nashville. One of them was extremely tough though. The mushrooms and andouille sausage were our favorites. I am surprised the restaurant is always so busy and it is so hard to get a reservation on Open Table because both our food and drinks were mediocre. There are many restaurants with far better food and with better atmospheres in town.

We were first placed outside without being asked. It was too cold to be on their
"patio" with no heaters. The waiter was able to re-seat us in the bar area which was much warmer, but very loud. It was fine. much better than outside.
The food was good, I think they try a little to hard with some of the items.... Vanilla bean in the crab cake as an example. The Crab cake was good, but one bite had a concentration of vanilla that was unpleasant, it was just one bite, so probably just a misstep on a busy night.
My wife had the steak frites. It was OK.
The food was fine, the service was very friendly after the initial seating. We are from out of town and are not planning to return. If it were a local restarant I would not frequent it after this one visit, but would give it another chance. The menu was varied enough, perhaps a little over priced for the quality, but not a tremendous amount.

The food was excellent. Our waitress, while pleasant, was less than expected. She never mentioned any specials, which we later overheard from another table. She never asked if we wanted a second round of drinks or coffee with our dessert. Lastly, the noise level was overwhelming for any type of conversation.
Our food came out promptly and was great but the impression from our waitress left us with a why bother to go back feeling.
