UNION Rooftop Ratings and Reviews
The food - amazing. But we had a reservation and waited over an hour to get seated, and then was told our table was given away because of someone getting the "safari package". Then after I complained that we had waited over an hour they put a table together for our group we were sat pretty much in the middle of the dance floor and had people pushing our table and putting their empty drink cups on it. Overall horrible experience for my 30th birthday. But no complaints on the food, it was delicious. Wish the service could have matched!
We traveled from out of state to Minneapolis for my husband's birthday and chose the Union because of all the great reviews. The atmosphere is great and the rooftop was very cool. We got the cheese plate as an appetizer and it was delicious. I was very disappointed with my meal though. I got the steak and asparagus with mashed potatoes. The asparagus were cold and the steak was very very bland. I only had a butter knife and couldn't cut my steak without sawing at it. Our waiter never returned to see if I needed a steak knife, ask how the food was, or ask if we needed anything - I would have loved steak sauce to make the steak better and a knife to actually cut it or to have the asparagus heated instead of cold. Overall very disappointed for a $32 dish :( again, no one ever asked how anything was or if we needed anything (my husband would have loved another drink if he had seen anyone) and we didn't see anyone again until they came over and gave us the check. For such a nice restaurant I expected a lot more and for a special occasion we were really let down.
Mark, our server, was fantastic! The outdoor rooftop was a great place to spend pre-theatre dinner. It was quite busy so service did take a bit longer to order drinks/food. However, it was perfect for us because we were just enjoying a casual meal to chat and catch up as friends do. We were in no hurry at all. Well done!
I brought my gf here for her birthday I had a reservation and we showed up on time. We were seated on the corner of the rooftop by a garbage can and unused furniture. We had a wobbly table and felt secluded from the rest of the customers. The service by our waiter was good and I tipped him accordingly. I ordered the 6oz. Filet and it was good but too much onion. Ive had a better steak at Texas Roadhouse for half the price. My gf had a burger and no complaints. The cocktails were weak. I felt like it was a little pricey considering we got to sit in a corner of junk with a table that belongs in the trash I was unhappy.
It was my first time here, as well as my friends and we all loved it! I was happy that they had a decent gluten-free selection and my drinks were delicious. The service was good especially considering how busy it was! I will definitely be returning. This is a great location for a girls night out.
We had a reservation for 6:15. Table was not available. Told hostess we were going to Orpheum at 7:30. She said they were doing the best we could. Seated at around 6:30 and server was very good at getting our order in and check in time for theater, but the overall experience was less than we have experienced on many prior occasions at Union.
Loved this place! Even though it was too cold to retract the glass panels, it still felt like we were outdoors. Molly, our server, was exceptional. Super fun and friendly, and she knew all about the menu when we had questions. The best part is she didn't hover over us. She was great about asking if we needed anything, but then left us alone to enjoy the fabulous food. Best margaritas I've had in a long time. The place was busy, but not so crowded that you couldn't enjoy the atmosphere. I'll definately go again!
Went for Easter Brunch and was so disappointed. I've been to Union Rooftop many times prior for dinner - always a fun time and delicious meal! We had the last seating and felt rushed from the moment we arrived from being told "last call" for drinks about 15 minutes after sitting down - to having the food start being put away in the middle of our meal. Oddly, there was food up and downstairs which was really inconvenient. Waiting for the elevator was not an option with the crowd so people took the stairs - not a good plan carrying a plate of food. The Prime Rib was not rare but raw and no one at the table could eat it - a tray of cookies had clearly been sitting out for hours and was literally melting - we all passed. Very mediocre overall and I would not return nor recommend for Easter brunch. Notable dishes - the breakfast potatoes were fabulous - we all loved them! The waffles also a hit! The build to order egg station was out of ingredients and when we asked for cheese in the eggs we were told it had to go on top and therefore didn't melt properly. Plus they were doing one order at a time so the wait was way too long.... disappointing meal for such as special occasion.
Interesting and fun location. Love the greenhouse roof and all of the natural light. Friendly staff, but a bit chaotic. No one seemed to know how the buffet was supposed to function. Brunch was ok, but have had better. Would try again with the regular menu. Funky and cool concept, would go again.
The food was really good and the service was amazing but I think that this is not a place for a date if you want it to be romantic. The roof top was great but definitely more of a party feel, which I'm not against, just unexpected. Definitely would like to have a bar hopping party or a get together here where people can drink and eat good food and have a great time. Just a little suggestions, maybe tell needs a noise gauge on it.
On one of the first warm days of spring they rolled back the roof for open-air dining. A pleasant setting. The food was good and the service was continuous without every being intrusive. My only complaint - perhaps a reflection of older age: the incessant low percussive beat of the music got tiresome after a while. We couldn't hear the melody so it seemed like the same tune the whole time we were there.
To be honest, we ate here a couple years ago and were impressed. However, the scene has changed, the food options were rather limited, a bit boring, and when we received our food it was over salted to say the least (salt is a seasoning, not the main flavor) . That being said, the ambience was wonderful, and the service was spectacular. The food.... well.... you be the judge.
By the way, we did use the valet (very convenient). ... but oddly when we got the car to leave, all the radio station presets were changed.....
We went on a Thursday night right before a play at the Orpheum. There were 3 of us. Let's start with drinks - Pineapple Express and Peach Martini were good. I had the Pomegranate Lime Non-Alcoholic drink - love it, I will "try" make this at home but it was excellent, not too sweet.
My friend's sister had the Lobster Mac and Cheese - she said the Lobster was tough not tender. Overall her sister liked it. My friend just had a wedge salad and I had the Fish and Chips. They had way too much breading for my liking and the fries were not crisp and slightly soft. However, when I broke open the Fish and Chips the fish was a good and I had a bite of the breading if you like a lot of breading you'll like it. The staff was amazing, attentive, friendly and fun would go back just for that experience. Saw many amazing dishes that we may come back and try. I've heard wonderful things from friends and will go back and try again sometime I'm sure.
Food and drinks are as good as they always were, but it seems they've gone REALLY aggressive with the DJ during brunch. They've always had music, but this was absolutely oppressive. I enjoy a noisy atmosphere, but our group had a hard time having any sort of conversation beyond one or two people. They used to wait to pick up the music until later, but it was already going strong at our 1130 seating time. It's a shame, too. Used to love this place for brunch, but I won't be returning.
Food was delish and diverse. Server was great but we all thought our food took longer to get than it should have and they weren't busy. Called 2 days ahead to move to main dining room after finding out they have a DJ during Sunday brunch on the rooftop. We were 3 generations gathering to celebrate our Aunti's 85 birthday and wanted conversation. I get there on time but all the rest got there early and they took them to the rooftop...oops...we got it worked out but I don't think that should happen at a place like this. They sat us at a cozy booth for 6 but we had a great time. It was nice to have valet parking on Sunday since my Aunti's mobility is challenged. She loved the whole experience and that's what really mattered to all of us.
We had some issues with our reservation. Due to our group size decreasing, we were made to wait over a half an hour after our reservation time even though there were open tables. There was not anywhere to stand on the rooftop while we were waiting and kept getting pushed by the wait staff and other guests as we were "in the way." However once we got seated, the manager came over to apologize and gave us free appetizers and a drink on the house. Our service was very good from there on out and the food was delicious. Besides the long wait and first impression, we will most likely be back.
Fantastic server, food and service. Hostess was not very pleasant and acted annoyed and not at all helpful when we tried to move one seat out of the potted tree it was directly under. She left and the server immediately came over and helped. After that everything was wonderful. Steaks were cooked perfectly...excellent char on outside. Amazing flavor.
The food was delicious although it took a good half hour to get it and they weren't busy at that point. The brunch DJ was fun but it was really loud. Our server didn't come by often at all so we didn't have the opportunity to ask for things we wanted for our food (soda refill, extra sour cream, etc). The atmosphere would be much better at night in the summer, a great view and fun atmosphere!
