About Tutto Il Giorno -Tribeca
New York, NY 10013
Gabby Karan De Felice was in New York’s TriBeCa neighborhood on a recent afternoon at the site of her newest Tutto Il Giorno, the third she’s opened with husband Gianpaolo De Felice and chef Maurizio Marfoglia. “It was sort of a treasure of love, this place. I did everything from scratch,” she says.
Karan De Felice, daughter of Donna and the restaurant group’s creative director, already has locations in Sag Harbor and Southampton, N.Y. A Manhattan location was the logical next step.
“It’s amazing how many people are our customers in the Hamptons and live in TriBeCa,” she marvels. “It’s almost synchronistic.” Dimly lit and almost loftlike, the newest member of the group has been open in “soft launch” mode since this summer, but is shifting to high gear just in time for New York Fashion Week — it will host dinners after Karan's show and to mark the release of a new book by the photographer Russell James.

Normally I would not review a restaurant on New Year's Eve because that night tends to be a little crazy but I wanted to signal this restaurant out for it's exceptional food and service that night. Not only did the food come steaming hot to the table, but even though the place was packed and there was a lot of milling about ( not to mention customers dancing and general revelry), the waiters were incredibly attentive. The drinks were perfection, bread and olive oil replenished, the oysters perfectly fresh and cold and the pasta outstanding.
What a wonderful, wonderful dining experience. When the food is sublime, it is always a thrill....but when the service matchs or exceeds the food it makes for a perfect night.
Whomever runs this restaurant gets this. A real pleasure. They should be applauded.

We went for New Years Eve dinner. It was very elegant and celebratory, lots of wonderful lighting. The place is very chic anyway. Only problem was in my crowd - which was people in their sixties - some complained the music was too loud. I actually liked it but it was definitely not background music. The pasta dishes were wonderfully al dente and yummy.

Disappointing. On the plus side: nice setting and friendly and accommodating service. Negatives: first, the food. This is an ordinary Italian restaurant masquerading as a fine dining experience. My pasta was overcooked to the point of being gelatinous; one of my companion's fish was slapped on the plate; another's "cioppino" -- falsely listed on the menu as a "Neapolitan" favorite although actually a San Francisco invention based on Genovese themes -- was a mediocre mix of ingredients without a lot of coherence or style. Two items were very good: a roast chicken ordered by my third companion and the tiramisu dessert. Overall, not an impressive performance. Second negative: the prices. The only things truly original about this restaurant's menu are the outlandish prices being charged for items that could be obtained in as good or better quality for much less money at a hundred restaurants around Manhattan. I doubt a place charging such grotesque prices for value provided can or should survive long in New York's competitive restaurant environment.

The overall dining experience was very good. The only major issue was that our service person seemed inexperienced. We were a party of eight and he wasn't good with suggesting on how to order shared appetizers and pastas.
Food was delicious except for my lamb chops. They were so surprisingly tough and chewy!

Food was quite good. Service was friendly. And a nice, comfortable environment. Trendy feel but not too noisy--you could hear yourselves talk. Wine list was a bit pricey. Steak dish for two was quite nicely done. Pasta dishes there are always great.

Unfortunately as we witnessed, if you're not a regular you don't get treated with the respect that you should. People came in with no reservation and since they were regulars somehow miraculously got seated immediately. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is great but because you need to be a regular and makes everything feel uncomfortable and awkward. Too bad!

What a beautiful Italian restaurant!!! Excellent bartender, Gigi who made me one of the best Martini's I've ever had and that's saying a lot coming from me!!! This is such a gorgeous interior space for a special dinner. We went for my birthday on a Wednesday and the service was perfect, the food was divine and the wine list was quite reasonable. Everyone in our group had a fantastic dinner and was totally impressed with everything from top to bottom. I look forward to coming back soon...

Nice atmosphere and great service. We are lucky enough to get great seat. The dishes are simple and subtle, letting the ingredients express themselves rather tan relying on salt and oil. The parmigiano was not bad but nothing special. Neighborhood gem and would repeat.

What a great first experience! Absolutely loved the ambiance and decor. Dim lightening with candles on tables provide excellent atmosphere. Definite must for any foodies since the quality of food was high level and perfectly prepared. Thumbs up!

The food was great. Service not great: EG: When the bread was served the waiter dropped a piece on the table and placed it back on my guests’ plate. The same individual served us the food. One of my guests ordered a fish dish that was covered with parchment and he went to open the parchment with his hands. The place has great ambience and food. Please correct your service.

There are many elements that make this restaurant an easy favorite. The interior is beautifully designed. The bartender knows how to make a proper martini. Every staff member is attentive and cordial. The menu is not fussy and extensive enough that everyone can find something they will enjoy. The wine from the wine list did not disappoint. We left smiling!

Upon entering the restaurant we were impressed with the design, the high ceilings, and the lighting. Unfortunately the food was not up to par. The service was not either unfortunately. Definitely will not be dining there again.

What else can I say but I am SHOCKED - we have dined here several times before and the food has ALWAYS been excellent. Tonight we had a big reality check - while bringing friends to a great tried and true establishment we suddenly had our eyes opened. While hearing the specials being a white truffle risotto and a black truffle risto - followed by price (odd) - we as a group decided they must be outstanding. Three out of the four of us ordered the risotto - 2 black truffle and 1 one white truffle. When the plates arrived at the table - we did notice they all looked and tasted the same. We asked the waiter which was which and accepted his answer. We all passed each taste to each other and honestly they all tasted alike and not only alike but like anything one would have in a very mediocre restaurant. We did not make a big deal - not one dish was consumed past the half way point - yet we still advised the waiter it was not very good and they should taste the dishes since clearly there was an issue and not to their usual standard . Once we requested our bill we were advised the risotto was being removed from the bill. We all thought - this is a great restaurant as they clearly recognized the risotto was not the $95 dish they thought they should serve. When the check arrived all 3 ristto dishes were on the bill - two black truffle at $45 per dish and one $95 white truffle....I must repeat- they all looked and tasted the same which is why we asked our waiter which was which. To make a long story short - we were visited by the maitre D to explain since we consumed half the dish we would be charged and the waiter made a mistake - at this point we said - no problem and paid for the meal in full and walked away. The most shocking part is - he had NEVER tasted the dish - even stated he never tasted the dishes -nor did the waiter yet made it our problem since half of each dish were consumed. VERY SAD! It was not about the price at all - sad!!

This is the best Italian in NYC. Outstanding ambiance. Well priced wine list and the food is perfectly prepared. We had dinner there two nights in a row. The first night we had dry past with truffles, lamb chops and barratta. The next night veal chops and salads. This is an outstanding place!
Not sure what to think of other reviews ...
Not sure what to think of other reviews raving about the food. The ambiance and service were outstanding, no doubt, but the pasta - the would-be focal point - was lacking in depth, flavor, and refinement. If I want a bowl of salty, one-note cavatelli, I can stay home and bust open the barilla. Probably will next time.
