Welcome to Toloache (pronounced toh-lo-AH-tchay), chef-owner Julian Medina’s contemporary Mexican bistro located in the heart of the Theater District. Toloache is named after a flowering plant famed in Mexico for its use in love potions. We hope that when you dine with us you too will fall under the spell of chef Medina’s creative cooking, which incorporates seasonal and natural ingredients and more than a dozen types of chilies. Our festive, two-story space features a guacamole and ceviche bar, a wood-burning oven, and an exceptional tequila list, along with elegant decorative elements imported from Mexico. We looking forward to seeing you soon.

This was my firs trip to Toloache and it was delicious. I was very pleased and would definitely return. Great food for the price and conveniently located to all of the Broadway shows. It might be the best fish taco I have ever had!!

If you want really good Mexican food in the theater district this is the place to go. The restaurant staff makes sure you will make your show with very attentive and speedy service. The food is outstanding and the chef offers dishes you will not find in "Tex-Mex" restaurants. The kitchen's use of seasoning and spices makes for an outstanding dining experience. The Guacomole with fruit is outstanding. I also recommend anything with mole sauce, as this sauce is the best I have had outside of Mexico.

In NY about 12 times a year, I usually take a group of new employees to another Mexican restaurant on our last night in town. I decided to try Toloache this time instead and I am so glad I did. It is a small space with 2 floors, a cozy bar area with a friendly bartender and outstanding Margaritas. The atmosphere is very authentic, welcoming and relaxed while the service is fast and friendly as well. The 3 varieties of guacamole we ordered were all outstanding as were our entrees. Very authentic, amazing flavors and the perfect atmosphere. My new favorite Mexican restaurant in NY!

Service was attentive, but a little too obviously focused on the up sell. Felt like we were coerced into ordering on the drinks and appetizers.
The quality of the food was good, but I was surprised by the small size of the portions. Even by NYC standards this is not a great option for value for money.
I ordered the quesadilla de camarons. I received a 6-7 in thick tortilla, topped with cheese, baby greens and chopped shrimp. I am not sure how they justify charging 15 dollars for that.

Service was great--very attentive. The guacamole was great. However, my meal, and my husbands, were both barely luke-warm. This is a real pet peeve. Foor which is delicious when adequately cooked and quickly served becomes uninspiring and stale-tasting when it sits. This is big deal--drops the food experience to oksy from really good. A shame. Churros were good, though.

I went to Tolache before a play for my anniversary. The food was awesome and environment was great. The location was perfect for being near the theater too. They treated us very nice for our anniversary, would highly recommend to others.

We were pleasantly surprised with the unusual and flavorful menu choices. Not your everyday Mexican cuisine, it's highly refined food. There are lots of small plates to share and we were able to sample more items that way! Loved the scallops and even the salad was better than your usual salad. I think the Jimaca made the difference:) I can't wait to return and try more dishes!

Seated as soon as we arrived, on the second floor balcony. Drinks came pretty quick and the waiter offered some good suggestions to guide us on picking the right dinners. We didn't opt for the guacamole (chips and salsa don't come free!) or any other appetizers, so just the main course. I got the braised short rib and my dining companion got the pork. Both equally delicious, we traded half way through to get a sampling of each other's dinner. Been there once before, and I'll definitely go back again!

What an EXCEPTIONAL place. It is crowded so make a reservation! We had an absolutely delightful evening; far more than just having dinner. Cocktails are creative and well crafted. They have their own label of Tequila that should not be missed. I had carnitas with sides and my husband had one of their special preparations of fish. Both were amazing and worth a return. Their guacamole is crafted with love so don't miss that either. Our waiter was Johnathan and we will certainly ask for him again. Charming, knowledgeable and attentive. In fact, their management staff was equally attentive; coming by several times just to make sure everything was to our liking. Oh, and save room for dessert! This was our second time to enjoy this delightful find and will become a MUST with each return to New York. Wish we had something like it in Southern California!!!

Had the opportunity to visit Tolache on a recent visit to NYC. The trio Guacomole starter was especially nice. The Cod entree was so vibrant in its flavors and tantalizingly delicious. Also had Le Blanc margarita. The wait staff were very attentive. Highly recommend Tolache!

2nd time here and it was better than the first. Truly top notch Mexican food and service. Mezqalitas and the available list of Mezquals are terrific and match great to the assorted tacos and entrees. Don't leave without trying the Costilla & Tuetano tacos!

We celebrate my husband's birthday, he is Mexican, so when he heard about Tacos de Chapulines, he wanted to try it, and it was a really good food. I ordered Chicken Toloache and my husband the Carne Asada and the tacos. The food was delicious, but I think the non-alcoholic drinks were too expensive.

Toloache was a late night find after attending Wicked at the theatre. We went there for a margarita on National Margarita day. We decided to try the guacamole and went back the following night for dinner. Food is amazing, staff is friendly and the margaritas are amazing!
Drinks are a little pricey, but they use all fresh ingredients, so you get what you pay for.
Now, every time we go back to NYC, Toloache is a a must for us.

Service was horrible (we were rushed to order/ finish our meal/pay) and even though the food and drinks were great, I will not be returning here or recommending this place to anyone. If you want a Mexican place with an upscale atmosphere, look elsewhere (Rosa Mexicano, El Parador, or Dos Caminos).

If you like Mexican food, give this a try! Start with the fabulous guacamole. We had
the regular as opposed to the spicy and scraped the bowl clean. We tried two kinds
of quesadilla and each one was delicious! The staff is friendly, efficient and the Mexican
decor makes a very pleasant room. I recommend this place enthusiastically!

This place was off the chart. We went here after a show on broadway and were very happy with our decision. The food was excellent and the service was spot on even though they were super busy.
We will make this a place we go to when returning to NYC.

Great service. Made a 5:30 dinner reservation before seeing a show. They were prompt to ask when our show was to ensure we were out on time. Our drinks and apps were out within 5-10min of sitting down with dinner shortly behind. Was expecting a much slower pace and was happily surprised at the promptness. Food was great! Gauc was fresh, tacos were yummy and dessert portions were huge! Seating was the only thing downfall but to be expected. Typical NYC style seating; our table was about 1/2 and inch from the table next to us. Overall very happy with the experience and will return.

Great place! Drinks are creative and selfish! We had wonderful service and the food was very good. Their guac is so fresh! The restaurant is very busy, but they don't rush you out like so many other places. Highly recommend coming here. Make a reservation!!
