The Perfect Caper Ratings and Reviews
Disappointed the table cloths are no more. The food has French flare and is very good mostly. I wish they offered some good sour dough rolls or baguette instead of dried out focascia. I suggested they put lime or lemon juice on guacamole served with lobster tacos so it does not turn brown. Those were only 2 negatives. The crab on scallops was very good as was the fish special. My husband enjoyed the mushroom pate (I prefer the chicken based). The house chop salad is good. We enjoyed sharing the gingerbread ice cream sandwich for dessert with excellent coffee. We look forward to hosting a holiday dinner there.
We have been going to the Caper for quite a few years. I have eaten at both the bar and and inside the dining room. The staff is competent and friendly. Went for our anniversary this time and can't say it was the best I have had there. We used to be regulars at the bar for drinks and dinner. Things change not as I remembered. Pricy for a weekly stop.
We like the Monday - Thursday 2 for $25 or w/ wine 2 for $35 dinners. Between the appetizer and entree it's a full meal for both my wife and myself. We think it is a very good value.
We have gone on the weekends and while the entrees have been excellent we always end up taking food home because the portions are so large.
The Caper has to be the classiest restaurant in Punta Gorda.
We always look forward to dining here on our visits to Punta Gorda. Hidden away, it is discovered more each time we dine here. So happy that they began lunch a while back. The service is great, and the food is phenominal-fresh, creative, and lovely presentations. We are more heavier luncheon diners, but the luncheon selections are as abundant as when we’ve dinner dined there. The calamari appetizer is the best we’ve ever encountered, and the Tempura prawns are huge. On this visit, I politely asked if the Tempura asparagus with the prawns could be substituted with another Tempura veggie, or skipped; it was no problem to substitute Tempura green beans, for which I was grateful. We wish Jeanne and Staff were up in our area.
As usual, a great lunch and service at the Perfect Caper. The Cracker Jack chicken was wonderful and a unique taste. Lobster Mac n' cheese great but a little sharp compared to what I'd expected; in fact, on reflection I like it more than the fare I've had in New Orleans. A great meal, though I miss the two-for-one lunch special.
We were with good friends and had a great night. friendly staff, good service, good food. expensive wine list and after spending 390 $ on a meal for four not even a good night sir or an after meal drink or snapps on the house...however I am from Spain and perhaps customers are better respected in Europe?
This was the fourth time I have been to this fine restaurant. Each time has been exceptional. The cocktails are creative and yummy, the service impeccable ( our waitress every time was Noel), and the food more than amazing! 😉👌. I’ll go back again and again!! Susie
It would be nice if the waiter who was excellent (G) would equally fill the wine glasses. Please do not fill my husbands an inch higher than mine and continue pouring all the wine in his glass with an occasional splash in mine - it was weird.
The Thai mussels were excellent for an appetizer. The squid ink pasta had the perfect spiced sauce with some heat. The special was a burger which had a top layer of macaroni and cheese instead of the top bun. Creative and cooked perfectly medium rare.Dessert was palate cleansing , which was a lemon cheesecake with raspberry sauce and garnished with fresh strawberries.Alexandra, our server was attentive, friendly, and welcoming.
We like the quality of the food. Some items appear to be over-priced until you actually enjoy them. Be prepred to spend a little more...in our case, $100 and change which included two rounds of drinks and several apps. We also left a nice tip.
One member of our party ordered a cocktail which she has ordered hundreds of times in hundred of restaurants--not available here, didn't have a key ingredient. Indifferent and overpriced wine list. All starters including prawns and salads were excellent. Noise level high and got worse. All entrees were excellent except the tenderloin/truffled potatoes. Tenderloin was mushy--perhaps tenderized, and potatoes were flavorless. The presentations varied from OK to really good. Desserts were out of this world. Go for the food--it's well worth it, but not for the ambience unless you like it almost too noisy to talk, nor for the wine. Service was erratic--first rushed, then slow; had to ask twice for bread and then it was one piece along with the starters, with no olive oil, tapenade, or butter. Same with water--one glass, late, and not refreshed. Will come back, and more than once.
