About The Patio on Guerra
Our story starts at the turn of the century in 1908, three Guerra Brothers from Starr County went to San Antonio to sell mules. They returned home to the Valley and with the profits, opened a ranching and mercantile store in downtown McAllen. Now, 100 years later, Guerra family descendants have revived this site on 17th street, (originally known as "Guerra Street.") The Patio on Guerra restaurant opened in 2008 in one of the oldest buildings in downtown McAllen. The main dining room is set in the original brick walls of this historic structure. With its comfortable chairs, subtle lighting and linen-topped tables, diners feel the warmth and ambiance of romantic yesteryear. USDA Prime Steaks, seafood and regional favorites and our passion to fine dining and excellent service make for a memorable experience whether you choose our main dining room or lovely outdoor patio surrounded by tall delicate palm trees. Recipient of the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence 2011 to 2015.

The Patio on Guerra Ratings and Reviews
This was a very nice meal for Valentine's day lunch. We were given a large gift card which made it more affordable but the prices are definitely too high for a retiree budget. We can't afford $55 per person for a meal, as a rule. The food, service and atmosphere were absolutely wonderful.
One of the most outstanding restaurants in which I have had the pleasure of enjoying a meal. The restaurant was gorgeous, the service was impeccable and the food was absolutely outstanding! I am someone who enjoys Morton's, Flemings, Ruth's Chris, PapasSteakhouse, etc! This restaurant is fabulous!!!!
We usually dine at Santa Fe, but your restaurant was Highly recommend and I have heard of your reputation for years. Being Christmas Eve without adult children and grand children, my sister and our husbands decided to treat ourselves instead of cooking at home (Harlingen).
The restaurant is a "Visual Delight" as we entered, the bar and seating area as you enter, Just beautiful. The music greeting us as we entered the dining room was fabulous, and just loud enough to provide the ambiance we had hoped for.
Service was not as good as we expected however we chalked it up to being Christmas Eve, hope to return soon.
Reserved my table and I receive a call to follow up and confirm my reservation. They asked what the occasion was to make it special and they also went out of their way to give me information regarding parking to avoid issues. The service was great and most of all the food was excellent! Everyone at our table enjoyed their food. You gained more customers!
When I booked the reservation here when we got to the restaurant and told them we had a reservation they took us to a table they already had reserved for us with a card celebrating our 24th anniversary. We were there at noon and the lunch menu never had steaks on it so we enquired about a steak and they brought us a dinner menu and were able to order what we wanted. Cooked as we desired and very good. Have already recommended.
Although the food, cocktails, and ambiance was fantastic, the service was okay. We waited long periods before a server would check up on us. At one point I had to ask another server to get us our server. We had three different servers so not sure who was the one to call on. I'm thinking they were under staffed or the assignment of table service was off.
Again food and cocktails were great you just had to wait longer than usual to get the great stuff. For the price I expected a better overall experience that included service.
I was terribly disappointed in the food. The service was excellent and the ambiance perfect. However, without good food what difference does that make. My husband had been there before for lunch and thought it was great. He had the stuffed avocado and said the chicken salad was excellent. I had fish for dinner and it was dry with no taste except lots of salt. Even the baked potato was dried out like it had been made way before hand. My husband had a steak and he was satisfied with it but didn't think it was anything out of the ordinary. I had looked forward to this dinner all week and it was really a let down. I hate to write bad reviews.
I wanted nothing more than a good meal, but the Patio didn't even come close.
We arrived with another couple and were seated promptly. The wait staff was very attentive and helped my wife find the perfect wine. It took several tastings to figure out the appropriate wine. The calamari for an appetizer was very good. We had the Chilean Sea bass with a Caesar salad and asparagus for our entree. The bass was cooked perfectly and the vegetables were grilled to perfection. The desert was table side Bananas Foster. It was the only part of the meal that was not perfect. The alcohol was not completely cooked off and thus it was very bitter. The bananas were not carmalized and the desert was not very edible. The atmosphere was great with a roving guitarist. If you get a chance ti is a must eat spot in downtown McAllen.
