The Melting Pot - Kansas City Ratings and Reviews
So I reserved my table early specifically because it was my bday and we had three couples coming. (With 2 people that had severe food allergies)They didn’t have the table available when we got there and they could have easily reached me and let me know beforehand. Then our reservation was at 7pm and it took them 40 minutes to bring us water. Between each course after we finished we just sat at our table for about 20-30 minutes before they would start the course. We didn’t leave until after 10. My entire party was squished in a booth and the cooking experience was crowded because of the lack of burners. It was awful and it was my bday. I’ve been several times and never did it take over 3 hours to get out of there and we DIDNT EVEN DO THE CHOCOLATE COURSE! Ruined my birthday.
I always have a great experience at the Melting Pot. The food was delicious and our waiter Gabe was AMAZING. Very engaged, friendly and charismatic! The only part I was slightly disappointed about was the seating. I very much so enjoy the secluded booths, but this time we sat in the booths near the open tables. The noise level was higher and it wasn't as secluded and personal as I usually prefer that. Still would return a thousand times over! My favorite restaurant.
Definitely not a noisy restaurant, great for a date and quiet and intimate conversation. Great drinks great food. The selection is good across-the-board no matter what you go with. I've eaten there twice I will eat there again and I would definitely recommend
Our server was amazing. The atmosphere was above and beyond what I expected. The food was fantastic. I have never been to Kansas city before and this was our first place to eat and it was well worth it. I will be back every single time we visit Kansas City.
The eating is fun but hope you get a good waiter. We have been twice for my daughters birthday. The first time she received a piece of cheese cake with her name on the desert. The last time she received nothing and the waiter kept checking for payment even though we were eating still.
The Melting Pot was a fun experience. The food was fantastic. Our waiter was wonderful. We had never been there before so we had no idea what to expect. We really enjoyed the four courses. We will go there again. We loved it. It was especially nice for special occasions.
This was my first time at The Melting Pot and the menu was some what confusing. But after we got things together it was fine. The food was great. But the service was not very good. We were left alone for quite a while just waiting and waiting and waiting and we made mention of it to our server he didn’t seem to really care he just made excuses. Which we can understand that he was busy but we still felt neglected. Then when it was time to pay I told him that I was disappointed in the service and his response was “aren’t we all” and I just don’t think that was a proper response. I mean but overall for my first experience there it was good. But I probably won’t go back.
This place is great for a quite conversation. Would be a great romantic date or for anything where you wanted to have a nice, quite, long dinner. Expect to spend 2 hours here. When dining for 2, the private booths have excellent privacy and are great for a quite conversation of food, while you enjoy the the fondue and cooking your meat to your liking. This occasion happened to be just taking my daughter for her sweet 16 birthday, bit it would certainly be great for a romantic date if you are looking for a nice quite place with a lot of privacy. Staff is very friendly and helpful.
The food was very good, as always. However, even though I had made reservations and let them know if was for our birthdays, we were seated right behind the hostess stand next to the bench where others waited and anyone walking into the restaurant went by. Not very private or quiet to say the least. Service was OK, but after 45 min all we had was our wine and a steaming pot. I know it is a leisurely dinner, but that seemed excessive to get it started.
We always have consistently good food and service here. The staff is very friendly and well trained. We always leave full and satisfied with a good meal. It is very pricey (Upward of $100 for a dinner for two), however the wonderful and unique experience makes it worth an occasional night out here. They even have romance packages available such as flowers that can be put on the table which is very helpful for a busy individual trying to plan a date. Probably my favorite thing about The Melting Pot (aside from the delicious food) is the quiet atmosphere where you can actually carry on a conversation.
That being said, I do have a few suggestions for the restaurant. One thing that could increase the value of the experience is an accessible WiFi network, as the "basement" location makes for very poor cellular service. (Though this might be seen a positive for those who wish to remain uninterrupted during a romantic dinner.) The only other minor inconvenience is that we are never seated right away, even with a reservation. We usually end up waiting about 10 minutes even when the restaurant is visibly slow. The accommodations for those waiting are not ideal, with only a couple small benches in the foyer. I'm sure there must be an operational reason for this delay, however that reason is not immediately clear to a customer such as myself.
These minor flaws aside, I would highly recommend The Melting Pot to anyone looking for a romantic night out, or even just a special night out with friends.
Love the food. Love the drinks. Love the fact you can book a reservation online. Thought the service started off painfully slow. We were sitting at the table with menus for almost minutes before anyone came over for even our drink order. However, after someone finally came, said server remained relatively attentive the rest of the night. My only other "complaint" is minor - I made a reservation online, got there 15 minutes early.... and was sat a a table in the bar area. Next time, I expect to have a booth and will say something if the situation repeats itself. What's the point of making a reservation if you aren't going to be sat at a booth in the restaurant proper? Otherwise, it was awesome.
The ambiance is depressing....in a dark basement, dirty carpet. The menu & ordering is more complicated than it needs to be. We took our family for my daughters birthday. It was really expensive for what you get. The salads looked like they’d be made 2 days earlier. And be warned that they put pine nuts on Cesar salad which I have a child allergic too. Tons of wonderful restaurants in KC. Skip this place.
Wouldn’t seat us until we were all there even though the restaurant was nearly empty at 5:30 and 4/5 people were there. Tried to sit us at a table that had a fog of flies above it (no joke). Then reseated and had to wait about 10 minutes to actually place our order.
Fantastic experience!!! We did the romance package for our 20th anniversary and found ourselves with a private dining space where the only person we saw all night was our highly skilled and very personable waiter. Amazing food!! Wonderful experience all around
Food was good but service was terrible when we did see our waiter, which was harldy ever we would have to remind him to bring us things we ordered 20 min prior. He was nice just kept taking off for long periods of time didnt even look like he had hardly any tables to wait on so no idea where he kept going. We were there for 3 hours because of the slow service. I dont usualy complain or write reviews but Between the 4 of us there we spent over 350 bucks and for that kind of money i am pretty mad about the service.
Horrible service. Ended up leaving. The staff kept saying the delay was an allergy issue....but I heard the same excuse as I waited for our table so it was an " untruth" told to try and make customers believe delay was something other then just poor very slow service. I would recommend finding somewhere else to eat on the plaza.
