The Greenhouse Tavern Ratings and Reviews

I've wanted to go to The Greenhouse for sometime and glad I did. Went with a friend before a Playhouse Square performance. We ate outside (which is unusual for mid-October). The server was very attentive but did not hover. He spent a lot of time explaining this very unusual menu. Food was very good to excellent. Would highly recommend.

Requested their kitchen seating for our 20th anniversary celebration and it was very fun. Boisterous staff makes it a true dining experience. We had some amazing small plates: gnocchi, Brussels sprouts, carpaccio and confit wings (their specialty) with a tremendous bottle of wine. Great time watching the orchestrated "chaos" of the kitchen!

I have been looking forward to dining at Greenhouse Tavern, and finally had the opportunity. I made a reservation to ensure our experience was good, and yet the meal itself couldn't have been more disappointing. My husband and daughter ordered burgers and a "tater" to share. I ordered a strip steak and another "tater". I can't believe that both the burger (an $18 burger, by the way) and the "taters" both came out lukewarm. We sent the taters back, and the server didn't charge us the $1 upcharge for substituting the taters because we had to send them back (!) so we were saved $2 for our inconvenience. You would think that this place could make a really GOOD $18 burger, and that their food would be hot. I will never eat there again. The server was really nice, but that's all I can say. Never going back again.

My boyfriend and I went here expecting high quality food, service, and ambiance, and we left with quite a mediocre experience. With being an E 4th restaurant, the tables are very close together often preventing you from having any sort of privacy during your meal. Our waiter, while very attentive, kept coming to our table to try to converse with us amidst our conversation, which got to be very annoying near the end of the night, especially when we made it clear we did not want to talk. His repeated reply of "cool beans" made us feel like we were more at a college bar than at a reputable restaurant. The food was lacking flavor - the gnocci was more akin to shell pasta with runny, watery sauce. My vegetarian entree's eggplant was very bitter, ruining the dish in the process. My boyfriend's plate was more "pomme puree" - mashed potatoes and gravy - than pork chop. The portions were small with not much payoff in taste. In the future, we will make it a point to consider other restaurants before eating at Greenhouse Tavern again.

The patio was our first choice but it was full. We got seated upstairs by the front windows. Great spot. Brittany was our server--she was awesome. We recommend the Brussel Sprouts and chicken wings. Good selection of stout beers.

We came in for Sunday brunch and sat upstairs. I can't remember our server's name but he was very friendly and made great suggestions. We were in Cleveland from out of town to go to the Patriots/Browns game. The food was delicious and came out fast, especially for how busy the restaurant was. I had the eggs Benedict and loved it. If I'm ever in Cleveland again, I will definitely come back!

Chef Sawyer intrigues me because of his creativity. The menu has something for everyone, even those who are not so adventurous, but there is nothing average about anything served. It's always a solid plate of food no matter what. I wish the tap selection was a little larger, but what is there is well chosen. We are not ones who revisit the same restaurants over & over because Cleveland has so much to offer, but we were entertaining friends from PA, and knew this would be a solid choice. Never disappointed.

Went for lunch on a Monday at noon and informed the server we were in a hurry (group of 6). Server made an effort to be quick, was very friendly, and the food was great. I had a veggie burger with the kale salad and I'd highly recommend it!

You really can't go wrong with a Jonathan Sawyer restaurant and The Greenhouse Tavern certainly has notes of his culinary chops and playful personality.
Food is exquisitely prepared and full of flavor. It's unique; but still approachable. The various portion sizes allow for any appetite or occasion.
Decor has a bit of whimsy with colorful art and bikes. Little details make a difference and this restaurant pays attention to them. The tables all have double linen cloths and the wine glasses have an etched logo.
Service was strong with a prompt greeting at the door (and nod to the occasion mentioned on our reservation). Our waiter was courteous and knowledgeable about the menu.
Overall, great dining experience at a prime Cleveland location.

Hip, with an interesting meat-centric menu. Always have a good meal. Boisterous location on E4th, you can guarantee it will be hopping on a sports night in downtown Cleveland. One of these days I'm going to try the roasted pigs head to share. Sounds cool.
I usually get one of their interesting salads with a protein for lunch. Always good. Burger is also excellent, as are their various other sandwiches.

Disappointed that we didn't get a roof-top seat, but it was cozy on the mezzanine for Sunday brunch. We had the Ceasar salad which was a little salty and heavy on the dressing; as well as the eggs Benedict, which was delicious. Breakfast pastries were also delicious.

Another great meal at the Greenhouse Tavern.
We enjoyed another great meal at the Greenhouse Tavern to celebrate our anniversary after a show at Playhouse Square. We had hoped that they would have had a new fall menu out but we were too early. That said we loved our meals - we started with the fried Brussel Sprouts which are an amazing combo of savory and tart. Our next course was the Tobasco Fried chicken which was very moist and flavorful, and to finish my wife enjoyed her Ohio beef Burger, and I enjoyed the pan fried pork chop. We finished the meal with coffee and shared a slice of the salted caramel cake. We recommend all the items we sampled and look forward to our next visit.

Pregame dinner, sat on the patio to enjoy the great weather and festive location. Food was great as always, service was very good, though looked like waiter could have used a little help on the patio, he wasn't as chatty about the food selections like we are used to on other occasions. Love the rooftop bar too. Overall it is our favorite pre or post game restaurant.

Service was poor. We ordered what the waiter for the table beside us recommended. Our server said nothing. Had the wings and frites (with bacon and cheese). They served my wife and I but gave my frites to the table beside us. I had to wait for my frites while my wife ate her dinner.

We had a pleasant dinner at The Greenhouse and found the menu to be interesting and varied enough for everyone to find something that appealed to them. The noise level made for difficult conversation, which was my only issue. Our server was very helpful and our meals well prepared.

This was our first visit. The rib-eye steak and poutine were delicious. The burger tasted like any other burger, just more expensive. Our waitress was outstanding in balancing the fine line of providing top-notch service and knowing when to stay away. She even advised us to downgrade our order when she realized we were probably ordering too much food for only two people (which we gratefully followed). However, the ambiance, kitchen staff, and assistant servers left much to be desired. Service-time was abysmal -- we waited over an hour and watched people who'd come after us receive their dinner. The majority of the food quality kept us happy but I don't foresee coming back.
