The Earle Ratings and Reviews

We had dinner here for our 12th wedding anniversary. We weren't especially impressed with the escargot in the puffed pastry as it wasn't very hot. The veal was outstanding and the Dijon salmon absolutely wonderful. We would return!

We were seated in the back room, which isn't very nice. The main rooms have much better ambiance, and live music. The restaurant was busy, and it took a long time for our meals to arrive, although the servers were very apologetic. None of us thought our dinners were worth the wait or the price. I can't recommend going there.

We have eaten at The Earle many times. I believe they have the best food in Ann Arbor. Their wine list has some excellent moderately priced selections. I had the salmon/shrimp entrée...my husband had veal, my son had steak with two sauces. Then we had dessert, crème brule and chocolate mousse. Loved it all!

The duck breast is our menu favorite, but also like the whitefish, steaks, butternut sq, as well as various pastas. Your wine list & service is the best.....like the affordable selections usually, but will pick something special for celebrations. Our favorite restaurant for many years.

Entrees had too much spice / sauces. Had the veal, which was tender, but the sauce purse over top was way too sweet and overpowered the overall taste. My friend had the filet with cracked pepper...which was coating the steak making it too spicy.
Nice wine list. Appetizers and soups were very tasty.

Consistently good food. The staff always seems to get the plate in front of you when it is piping hot. If we are looking for a high-end comfort meal, this is where we end up. Management is often running a groupon or similar promotion, so we often use that to help lower the tab.
The best caesar dressing around-so garlicky as to be spicy.

The Earle has produced consistently excellent food for many years thanks to Shelley Caughey Adams. Steve Goldberg is the highlight for us and keeps us coming back. His extensive list is loaded with fantastic wines at reasonable prices. Steve knows the list and continues to select wines that impress us every time. I hope he never retires. Service and food came a little too slowly but thanks to the outstanding wine Steve picked, we did not mind as much.

We were excited to go to The Earle for a nice dinner with friends since it had been many years since we had our first experience there.
We told the waiter from the start that we had a Travel Zoo coupon, and maybe that is why/where things went wrong. Our waiter, who was a bit inattentive to begin with, eventually was replaced by a waitress, who said they were working as a "team". What that resulted in was no one taking care of us. We had to find someone to order an additional cocktail, our dessert never came due to a "lost slip", and I had to refill my own coffee from a server station.
Although the food was hot and tasted fine, the whole experience was dampened by the poor service, although there were MANY staff on hand to serve the patrons.

I've loved the Earle for many years, and dined there for many special family occasions. This recent visit was for my birthday. Usually the service and the food are always fantastic. This was the first time that the food seemed sub-par and the service was quite terrible. I hope it was a fluke. It was very busy on a Friday night in October, so maybe the staff was overwhelmed. Either way, it's been my favorite restaurant for years. I hope the quality is not going down. I'll be back.

We were celebrating our 4thanniversary - this was our first time here. 5:45pm reservation we were the second couple seated. Our waiter acted like we were bothering him the entire night. My wife ordered salmon in a pastry when she asked what accompanied the entree he did not know. Returned with the answer "vegetables". Really? You would think he would know. I asked for a beef recommendation and he said "au poivre is the best". It was over peppered to the point of not being able to taste the meat flavor. When I asked what accompanied my meal he did not know but said "it wasprobably vegetables and some potatoes. 5 pieces of mixed vegetables and 3 slivers of potatoes arrived. I told this our anniversary and henever acknowledged this. No offer of anything to celebrate. I ordered 1/2 bottle of wine $50 plus meal w/out desert totaled $148 for average food, uncomfortable seating and subpar service. First time there is our last time.

The Earle has always been a great place to enjoy a special evening in Ann Arbor, whether it's after a football game or just an evening out. It may be a little "gourmet" for some people but if you truly love great food, this is one of the best. Everything is prepared to high standards. It also may be a little on the expensive side but for special occasions (or even just a nice night out) it is well worth it. If you just want to eat and leave, this is probably not the place for you, but if you enjoy "dining", give it a try. A favorite of ours!

We had a pleasant experience at the Earle. We had a large group of 9 and the wait staff did a nice job of accommodating us. Everyone enjoyed the food. It was a weekend night of a home football game, therefore the restaurant was extremely busy and noisy. It was very hard to carry on a conversation, especially when the music started. Other than the noise level, we had a very nice time at the Earle.

I had the veal scallopini, which was absolutely superb. My husband had the duck, and he was equally pleased with it. Flavors were well developed in both dishes. We were going to go to Gratzi's but chose The Earle because Gratzi's had eliminated our favorites from their menu. We have always enjoyed dining at The Earle, but these particular menu items were absolutely outstanding and we haven't quit talking about them yet, they were so good!

It's been a while since we've been to The Earle and I'm so glad we chose it. Our meals were delicious. Each of the four of us selected a different entree and each was delighted. The live music added the perfect touch to our evening. Don't miss The Earle. We'll go back!

Amazing!! My boyfriend and I came here for our 2 year anniversary, and they took such good care of us. I had the salmon, stuffed with pesto and served with shrimp. Hands down the best salmon I've ever had. My boyfriend got the Delmonico steak, and it was also incredible. Service wasn't overly bubbly, but I actually enjoyed that because it allowed us to have private conversations without having to worry about being interrupted. The staff made great suggestions, and they even had two people taking care of us. At the end of our meal, they gave us a Happy Anniversary card with a $10 gift certificate to come back (and some amazing truffles) The only minor complaint that I would have is the portion size of the appetizers. If you come here, I'd say stick to entrees and desserts. But all around, this is an incredibly romantic and delicious find. We will definitely be back.

Given reviews, I found some of the food disappointing. The duck and lamb chops were quite good, but the beef in roquefort sauce (recommended by the waiter) was overwhelmed by the sauce. The wine list is extensive and the sommelier made a recommendation for a tasty but relatively inexpensive bottle. Given all the excellent restaurants in Ann Arbor, I would not hurry back.

Ambience quiet and understated. Food excellent, well presented. Table settings comfortable, not cramped but cozy. Good variety on menu. Service was friendly, caring but not too many checks for needs. Overall a nice place for an evening out.
