Having a reservation meant nothing in this restaurant. We waited another thirty minutes after our reservation time to be seated. Additionally, the service was extremely slow - both to take our order, as well as to get our main dish. I believe that the server never placed our order, or forgot to pick it up. Took almost an hour to get one fried rice dish and one low mein dish. The lo mein had nothing in it other than meat and noodles.
Will not return here, nor recommend here, to anyone I know.

The food and the service were very good.
We were 6 friends and we enjoyed.
The lunch prix fixe is very good value. I definitely would return to this restaurant.
The spicy basil chicken lettuce wraps was a very interesting dish, and the kung pao chicken
was excellent. The chocolate peanut cake was a perfect ending.

We went here for a early dinner late lunch and half the restaurant was empty. The service was horrible it took the waiter 15 mins to come and take out order then our food came 30-40 minutes later and our food was incorrectly prepared and lukewarm. We tried to grab someones attention but no one was to be found. We asked a busboy who said "ok" and still no one came. Once we were just about done eating the waiter finally came over and when asked if everything was ok I said no and he totally avoided my comment. I asked for the check and took the dessert to go bc it was a horrible experience. I used to love this place but it has totally gone down hill. The food was mediocre, the service was disgraceful for the price point and the restaurant was dirty with booths that were ripped up and unclean. I wouldn't recommend anyone going here as it's not worth your time or money. I wish I could get my money and time back from this experience.

Good food. Plan ahead. Definitely need reservations. Was extremely crowded when we left (8:00). Food comes out pretty quickly. Good meal. Plenty on the menu. Walkable from Times Square, where we were staying. Much closer to 5th avenue / Central Park area.
Server was good. Nothing special. Would likely go back, but so many other choices that we would try first.

We had gotten a recomandation from a friend that we should have dinner at TAO. We had big expectations for our meal. The food was good. The sizes was big.
However the service was bad. Our waiter was so busy with other things that we had to ask other waiters for the check. No one asked us if we wanted more to drink, or how the food was. When we just recived our appertizser we were asked if they could bring us the main course. We said we would like to eat our appertizer first.

Gave lower service score....waiter was excellent but front desk team was indifferent and reservation time meant nothing. We were seated 30mins after our reservation time and arrival. The Miso Sea Bass is incredible.

We brought some friends who hadn't been to Tao before. Our server was very knowledgeable and made up a customized assortment of appetizers followed by some of the best dishes for the table to share. That great recommendation along with a fabulous wine and a few pictures next to Buddha before our guest left made for a memorable evening. Don't forget to try the Sea Bass. Highly recommended.

Came for the prix fixe lunch menu. My friend and I each ordered the fix menu and added some appetizers. The appetizers were good but the entrees were bland. We had the Chirashi and Pad Thai. We had better food elsewhere for a much cheaper price tag. Location is good for ambiance and special occasions. The dessert was great.

The service was good, our server had great knowledge of the menu. Being amongst a group of six we were able to order most items on the menu and they were all tasty and delicious. The decor of the big Buddha and the music makes for a great ambience. Looking forward to returning soon.

Fun evening with my teenage daughter. Upbeat and interesting space with dishes well suited to share. King crab roll was delicious. Shared the giant fortune cookie for desert. Everything comes together at TAO for a memorable dinner. Service was excellent!

The ambiance is awesome! I took my husband for the first time and he loved it. The food was all great, but our favorite was the banana pudding dessert. I could eat that every day! Service was attentive...we wanted for nothing.

This was our 5th visit to Tao over the years and food and ambiance once again did not disappoint! They have even toned the music down a bit. Couple of moans, the lighting is such that even a myopic mole would have trouble reading the menu. Being constantly distracted by people, reading menus using the smartphones was a tad irritating. Led lights on menus are common these days in darker restaurants. A bit of investment required. Food was superb but the cost of sashimi per piece is around what you would pay in London for 4-5. Main courses are better value though. Again what is irritating is that you ask for bottled sparkling water yet you get bottled carbonated tap water filtered or not. I am sure in the small print it says this on the menu but without a torch and a magnifying glass you will not see it. Little things but at this price should not be tolerated.

Would like to like Tao, the food was good enough. But the service was horrible. Long wait to be seated, although both parties arrived in advance of 12:30 reservation time. When finally seated , waited at least 10 minutes for any sign of server. Longer still for even a glass of water. when server finally arrived and took order, my companion's shrimp dish arrived almost instantly. Stir frying is fast, but not that fast. The issue was that my sushi roll didn't appear, again, for probably 15 minutes. With apologies, yes, but really? Definitely not an upscale fine Asisan dining experience.

Used to be better. Had to wait a few minutes while they checked if my table at 12:15 was ready. The place was almost empty at the time so I don't know what confusion delay/confusion was. The food is no longer worth the premium. The atmosphere, which used to be lively, is now lackluster. I guess the downtown location gets all the customers, good chefs and competent front desk staff.
