Summer House Santa Monica Ratings and Reviews
We had really good service and it's an awesome atmosphere- you feel as if you're dining outside even though it's the middle of winter. They also have a really nice sweets counter to try after your meal for a treat for the road. Overall very nice atmosphere and great service.
The brunch was disappointing. The pull apart cinnamon rolls and the hash were underwhelming and a bit flavorless. I would not recommend getting the hash unless you want something that is really REALLY greesy.
The wait staff was extremely professional and attentive and the sunlight made it a nice place to stay awhile with friends. I have heard good things in general about this place so maybe it would be better for lunch or dinner.
I went there for dinner a couple of years ago and the food was amazing. But, I went there for lunch a couple of days ago and I was dissapointed in the food. We had the tuna appetizer and it was wayyyy too spicy. I can handle spice, but this was an 11 out of 10 on the spiciness. I had the Mahi-mahi tacos, the fish was dry and had no flavor. My coworker had the salmon and he said it was dry and had no flavor as well. Spent too much money for the quality of food... :(
Open theme restaurant, crowded but still able to enjoy a casual meal.
Broad menu, with enough to satisfy the pickiest diner.
Service was attentive, waiters worked in teams to ensure guest satisfaction.
Overall if you are looking for a filling meal this may not be the place for you as the serving sizes are small. However I would recommend as a trendy brunch spot to start a day on the town.
Summer House has been packed since it opened and our visit was no different. We were told our reservation would not be ready on time and we left to look at shops in the area. Of course our table WAS ready on time and we had to race back in order to not lose it. Unexpectedly for a Lettuce restaurant our service was absolutely terrible. Not to say our server was unfriendly. He was very friendly, when we saw him . . . which wasn't often. Apparently he was over-tabled because it was hard to get his attention and when we did he would wander away during our conversation. At least twice we were ordering and he walked away in the middle of the order - we actually ordered our original drinks in two shifts due to him disappearing. There is nothing more stressful than having to fight to order a second drink, a dessert (we gave up) or get our check. Food on the other hand was pretty good. With the exception of a huge blood line in the salmon (on the salmon platter) - ick, the food was good quality and tasted great. The house-made cinnamon rolls were tasty although a bit overcooked (crunchy). Cauliflower with jalapeno pesto was delicious - - what a great appetizer!! Muffin burger was cooked as ordered and stacked turkey was fresh and had a large amount of turkey. Cocktails were great (see the Ricky Bobby) but definitely had large urban area prices ($$$$$). Summer House was good enough that we'll try it again - maybe just an off day.
I cannot recommend Summer House enough. The food is always amazing, but what really makes Summer House so awesome is the atmosphere and atrium ceiling. Feeling the winter blues? Book a reso at Summer House. It's somehow sunny in there even on the most dreary, dull day. I love going to Summer House for brunch with a group of girl friends. I recommend starting off with the calamari and/or tuna tostadas. Entree-wise, I can never seem to not get the Santa Monica egg white omelet. It's so simple, but SO good--my favorite. You cannot leave without stopping at the pastry and coffee bar--the salted chocolate chunk and the rice krispy treats are my go tos.
Summer House is a nice place to eat - if you have reservations. The Decor is nice and easy and the glass ceiling in the main dining area adds a really nice touch. The food options are interesting and seems like there is something for every palette. The only thing I would suggest they do is take out a table or two in the general seating area since they have stuffed too many into that room!
