Summer House Santa Monica Ratings and Reviews

Great atmosphere - very bright and authentic Santa Monica feel.
Average food - fried chicken had too much dark meat. Burger was over cooked. Menu is limited. Calamari is very good.
Service was average. Not over attentive or friendly, but not terrible.
Cookies are very good, but I miss the toffee date cake.

The ambiance was lovely - it was open and bright with plants everywhere. The ambiance almost made up for the fact that the food was just so-so. Not bad, but absolutely not worth the money paid. My breakfast sandwich was bland and the "crispy candied turkey bacon" was rather flavorless and not at all crispy. I'd love for the quality to improve because it's such a prett restaurant, but I likely will not be back.

The food at Summer House never disappoints. We order the handmade burrata every time we go. The cocktails are also always great. Summer House is always very busy but staff are always pleasant and helpful. It is a beautiful place to sit outside in the summer and a great place to feel like you aren't in Chicago during the winter.

Summer House never disappoints ... our favorite casual neighborhood restaurant. Good steaks, good vegetables (broccoli and cauliflower -- just a bit too much oil) . Excellent service -- quick and friendly. Great fresh air dining.

Usually I love Summer House for its atmosphere and dependable food and service. This time the only thing that was good was the atmosphere. Extremely poor service despite the fact that there were many open tables. The waiter walked by many times and we had to call to him to take our order no then to bring our check twice! Much of the time he was lounging by the bar talking to other staff. And our Thai salads were oily. So. Eh

It was our first time here. We will return. Loved the ambiance and the fact that we could hear one another. The server was great and made awesome recommendations. We had the fire-roasted beets, ahi tostadas, pan-fried trout and skirt steak. Oh, and the fudge cake was yummy, not to mention they brought out a chocolate chip cookie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for my husband's birthday. All the food was fresh and delicious.

Always love it here but was less than really impressed with the food tonight 🤔 the cauliflower hummus app was soggy and strange.. The tuna tostadas were good per usual.. The curry black bean quinoa bowl was good but nothing spectacular. I dunno just wasn't a huge hit for me. Il always love the ambiance though.

Have to admit bit disappointed by the food on this visit! It appears to have gone downhill from my last visit last year. This is the first time in 2016 that I visited them at 2PM for late business lunch. Food took a bit of time to get to the table which was interesting as less than 8 tables were occupied at the time of arrival. Host seemed "lost and confused" and seemed ill prepared to see that RES was made and the preference on where I requested to sit. He seemed more interesting in chatting with staff at the host stand. Food was overdone and salad was less than enjoyable to eat! I will steer clear until they can rectify these issues.

Summer House was the perfect spot to take some friends visiting from out-of-town. The decor and interior design were wonderfully fresh and chic (earned the approval of a true Californian), and our server was friendly and excited about the menu, which is always a good sign in my book!

Summer House Santa Monica is the quintessential buzzy brunch spot: great food, fun atmosphere, and slightly slow service. Their chai latte, chicken and waffles, and cold-pressed OJ were all first rate, even if the place was a tad crowded. It's great for a leisurely brunch with mimosas flowing, but if you're a family with hungry kids you might want to give them a snack first. It's definitely worth a trip, especially for a girls' day or catching up with old friends!

I was blown away by Summer House. It was better than any past restaurant that my fiance and I have been to. We celebrated 5 years together and were treated marvelous. The staff was kind and attentive, the decor was unique and the food was unbelievable. We really loved it and will certainly be back for more very soon!

I'm a fan of Lettuce ENT. restaurants. Am I Gold Reward member. Not intending to go back. I had been there several times before. Would rather go to Stella Barra next door. Service was uncharacteristically poor. I was entertaining an employee. Will need to treat him again to make up for poor service. Could never get waiters attention. Apetizers came immediately and then waited for 30 minutes for main course.

We had a great meal at noon this past Sunday. The only complaint was cold toasted english muffin, (sent back- brought another warm but not toasted!) and did not bring butter for both english muffin and pancakes - had to ask 2x.
Will definitely return though! Was busy - and I know the wait staff is as the mercy of the kitchen!

The food was delicious as usual. However, the service wasn't up to par. Shouldn't have to ask for salt and pepper, butter, and jelly. Coffee wasn't offered often enough either. But still loved it and will be back!

Summer House was beautiful. Great atmosphere and gorgeous set-up, the main reason I decided to bring my good friend here to celebrate her birthday. Sadly, everything was a bit underwhelming.
We had the bad luck of the draw and was seated at a table right by the host stand. Usually I'm not picky with where I sit, the food tastes the same either way, but our table was bumped a couple times by patrons, it was wobbly so I took my chopstick wrapper and wedged it under the feet. Just got a little annoying.
We ordered a bottle of riesling, the real cali roll, calamari, steak frites and brussels sprouts. My favorite was the sprouts. Everything else was fine. Nothing was spectacular but it wasn't bad at all either. After a $160 bill with gratuity, I have to be honest though, I was disappointed.
All in all, I had higher hopes for this place than what I got, but I wouldn't knock it. It's a beautiful place but I probably wouldn't be back.

Second time at Summer House. Service was better, but food was not so great. The ambiance is so attractive, I expect the service, food, and value to align but they just don't. I'd say the food was bland and way too expensive for what was received. Not sure I'll go back.

Reservation was at 8 and we didn't get seated until 8:30. Food was pretty decent. Service was good. Our waiter told me everything was awesome, but I was hoping for an honest opinion so I would help me decide. I recommend Summer House and I would go back.
