Stephanie's On Newbury Ratings and Reviews

The overall experience was fine. Really large space, very nice atmosphere with large bar area and outdoor section (too cold when I went). Great location, very good food. The service was more than adequate despite some reviews to the contrary. My basic issue was with the pricing. I understand it's Newbury street but $18 to $20+ for eggs or pancakes is pushing it. The Bloody Mary was excellent as many have said. Some cocktails were $18! That said, the food was very good but I wasn't looking to spend $40 or so a person for brunch.

This was an unfavorable experience at Stephanie's. I have been at the restaurant for lunch and brunch before. The pasta was just fair. The fish of the fish and chips was salty while the coleslaw was bland and rather dry. The fries were good. The server was inexperienced and without real purpose. We were not served promptly although it was not busy when we came. Our waters were never filled and our bottle of wine was self-serve. It felt as though we were in a BYOB establishment. We won't go back any time soon.

I made a note in my reservation specifically requesting OUTDOOR seating however when we arrived we were informed that they don't take reservation for outdoor seating - total bummer especially since they had several open tables outside and was told it was 30-60 minute wait!

We absolutely loved it here! We sat outside on a gorgeous evening for dinner. Our waiter was phenomenal! He went above and beyond to ensure great service, including being great with our son who's a year and a half. The good was amazing. I'd highly recommend this restaurant to others.

The food was amazing but the atmosphere was really loud. We actually would have been better off if we had eaten outside on Newbury Street. The service was sub-par. Our appetizer dishes were never cleared until we finished our main meal and we had no more room on the table. The menu posted online was not the same as the restaurant's menu. The dessert menu online listed pumpkin cheesecake and it was not actually offered at the restaurant.

When ever my wife and I are in Boston Stephanie's on Newbury is a must stop - Two of our daughters graduated from Boston College so this is "Our home away from home" - There was a fire in one of the stores a block away from the restaurant and even though there was plenty of fire trucks and noise Stephanie's was still perfect as usual

I had the Poncherello sandwich and my wife had the crab cake Benedict for Sunday brunch, both were excellent. The restaurant is pretty large and they were quite busy.Prices are a bit high but it's Newbury Street.Parking can be a problem

Very disappointing. The menu looks great, but the food sounded better than it tasted. We ordered the monkey bread. It wasn't gooey or sticky - it was dry and crumbly. The waitress asked if we wanted to box it up (since we didn't eat it). We declined and said that it was because we did not like it. She said okay (no apologies or anything else), took it away and still put it on our bill. When I went to the bathroom, the servers pushed past me and I had to move out of their way, rather than the other way around. Maybe my expectations for service is too high.

Great experience this past Sunday. Our dog Austin was greeted kindly and most importantly with a welcome smile. Our waitress even offered him grilled chicken when she realized we had traveled from Maine and had forgotten the pups dinner. Well done Stephanie's!!

What stood out to me this evening was the complete disinterest shown by our waitress. She brought a warm bottle of sparkling water and two glasses with no ice. I had to order another drink to use that ice for the water. The food was brought out by different staff and each plate placed in front of the wrong person. The food itself was very good, even if the Chef wouldn't take a special request! Dinner started at 5pm, unbeknownst to us before we made our reservation, and even though we ordered at around 4:50pm, the Chef would not make us simple onion rings, as they were only on the Dinner menu. Our party had been walking around all day and was hungry, so as we were only allowed to order off the lunch menu, that is what we did. I think our waitress should have been able to convince someone in the kitchen that we wanted dinner and a tower of onion rings would have made this review completely different. She was our advocate and didn't perform well at all. She couldn't have cared less about us and seemed to just want us out of her way. I would give Stephanie's another try, after 5pm, because there were a few things that I was dying to try but was not allowed to do so on my time. Plus, what we did have was very good!

On a busy Saturday afternoon we expected crowds but not a dip in service. Drinks were overpriced and incorrectly made. Our food came out about seven minutes after we ordered it (including soup with a film on top and a hot to the touch bowl which I assumed was due to being under a heat lamp and a ham and cheese sandwich that was cut by a knife that had been used to cut another different type of sandwich--bits of that sandwich were on the ham and cheese). We didn't finish the cocktails and felt harried and rushed. The atmosphere was hectic. Totally understandable given the crowds but it wasn't a pleasant buzz, more of a "eat and get out" feeling.
Given the price of the overall meal, which is to be somewhat expected at a Newbury Street restaurant, the service, food, and atmosphere were not proportionate to the cost. We will most likely not dine here again.

The food was not as good as we anticipated. The chowder was served luke warm and had the consistency of mashed potatoes. My skirt steak was served over an entire bed of french fries and the skirt steak was about a foot long -- unhealthy proportions in my opinion. The waiter did the best he could and the manager apologized which I was appreciative.

Went for Sunday brunch in a group of 4. I made the reservation on the Wednesday preceding the brunch and all time slots from 10:30 - 1pm were already booked. It's quite popular with the brunch crowd and for good reason. They have a menu for creating your own custom bloody mary's with an assortment of accouterments to choose from. Everyone in my group was satisfied with their food with the crab cake benedict and belgian waffle as highlights. Service was spectacular. The waiter was very attentive and the wait time between ordering and receiving our food was less than 10 minutes. I've never been served so fast. What made it even more impressive is that the restaurant was packed and was running a half hour wait. They know how to turn tables here without being pushy. Definitely adding this place to my future brunch rotation.

Brunch at Stephanie"s was very good. Unfortunately the morning we went it was pouring outside so we were not able to sit on the great patio on Newbury street. The patio is a happening place on any beautiful day. But inside we had a nice booth and the service was great. The smoked salmon plate is more than enough and could be shared if another bagel were to be ordered. My daughter had the red velvet pancakes which she said were very good but she did not taste much chocolate in them.
We will definitely go back, and on a beautiful day reservations are a must!

The food was amazing. We particularly enjoyed the appetizer which was a lobster salsa dish.
We saw very little of our waiter, he was distracted when he did make an appearance and never checked back to see if we wanted more wine or how our food was.
just as well the food was so good.
I have been to Stephanies quite often because of the food, ambience and service.

Met a friend for dinner on a Friday night. We had a reservation, and we were promptly seated. Food was excellent. Our server was great with making suggestions from the menu. Ambiance was very nice. It was very crowded, but we still were able to enjoy a quiet, comfortable dinner in a lovely space.

Our server, Emily, was perfect. She kept our glasses full and gave us advice on breakfast spots. All of our meals were delicious. Especially the seared scallops over risotto and the open faced thanksgiving turkey sandwich. We will definitely return!

Very loud. The waiter had a bad attitude to begin with. Everything seemed an effort for him and he even rolled his eyes when walking away from the table after we placed our drinks order. It took us twenty minutes to get our drinks after we had ordered them. We were so frustrated (and hungry) we walked out of the restaurant - a first for us and we were really looking forward to some comfort food.

We had a 10 am reservation, arrived at the restaurant 10 minutes early and were told to stand in the bar area until 10 when we could come back to the hostess stand and check in again. That was fine and we did as instructed but then had to wait an additional 10 - 15 mins to be seated after we checked in a second time. We were finally brought to a table in the very back of the restaurant in what appeared to be a private room where no one was seated (instead of the main dining room or at any tables in the bar area). Once we received our meals, the eggs were not cooked as requested and the food was not hot. Overall, not a pleasant meal, I would go up the street to some of the other restaurants that are better with seating management and service.

The food was mediocre at best. My daughters 10.00 pasta was seemingly microwaved and though it looked it it was covered it butter, was dry to the bone. This is our second trip here (we happened to be on Newbury last night), and will never go back...service was very slow and totally inattentive.

Celebrated my girlfriend's birthday at Stephanie's and had a nice time. The menu is full of intriguing options to try and wasn't overly expensive given the nature of the food and quality. The service was fairly average if not a bit subpar - our waiter was changed almost immediately into the meal and our replacement seemed flustered, forgetting a glass of wine that had been ordered twice. The desserts were very good and able to comfortably feed three people. Would recommend Stephanie's for a special occasion and highly encourage sitting outside when the weather is fair.
