Shadowbrook Restaurant Capitola Ratings and Reviews

Last time we dined at Shadowbrook was 2.5 yrs ago. We live in Colorado. Service was terrible and I said I would never go back. Sent a review on comment card directly to the restaurant and never got a response. Very disappointing. Decided to try one more time. Much better experience. Our waiter was awesome (Brent) and the food was much better. Will return again.

We were here for our daughter's 10th birthday. Our server Marc was very informative and helpful, and his assistant Andrea was especially attentive. The food overall was up to the usual standards, although those of us with the thicker-cut prime ribs noticed they were more well-done than desired, but we didn't complain as it was still pretty good. Overall, a very nice birthday experience for our daughter!

Casey is a fabulous server. We had him a few months ago and I was pleasantly surprised to see him as our server again on Saturday night. The food was excellent, as always, and it's a great place I can take my daughters to enjoy a fancy dinner.

Enjoyed a lovely evening with my Husband. Started with cocktails, he had a mule and I had a cucumber/basil gin drink, both delicious. We paired it with the Brie appetizer and the jalapeno jam was very good. We had a great bottle of wine that was recommended with our dinner. I had the special lamb entree and my husband the prime rib. Best meal weve had out in a long time. Our waiter was great.

Our family enjoyed a great dinner at Shadowbrook in January 2017. The menu had plenty of great choices, including some gluten-free options, and the portion sizes were generous. Our server, Andrew, was knowledgeable and personable. When our food runner brought the plates, we didn't have to "order twice" because he knew who had ordered each meal - a sign of quality service, in my view. Overall, a memorable evening!

This is by far our favorite place to dine. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful, unique and the staff is very personable and professional. We have dined here for the last 35 years and I still rate it the best!!

All the staff took time to explain choices, they even allowed us to change tables. We had several staff bring food and drinks but all were very kind, professional and discreet. Our family had a wonderful time roaming around pre-dinner then ending our delightful evening with a hike back up to the parking lot. The only slight downer was that we were the first placed in a dining room and the next part were seated directly next to us rather than a few tables away. The room was eventually filled but it would have been nice to not feel so cozy with the other diners so quickly!

We visited The Shadowbrook with our daughter, who lives in Santa Cruz. My wife and I each had the petrale sole almandine which was delicious. I finished it off with a mud pie which was really scrumptious. They were very busy and the parking lots were full so I had to park on the street. I apparently missed one parking lot. My tips are always reserve, find out where all the lots are, and have the sole.

This was about my 6th visit to the restaurant over the years and I must say, the BEST service ever! We went on their winter special Thursday evening all seafood entres are $18.95 and a terrific deal. We treated our son and daughter in law to a special pre christmas dinner and was not disappointed at all. They absolutely loved the food and atmosphere and service and everything else about this quaint restaurant with the trolley. Glad this place is still around after all these years.

We were running late, but they were able to accommodate us anyway and we ended up with a table next to the river with view of lovely indoors plants on our right. Waiter was quite knowledgeable and his recommendations were great. Ambiance was outstanding and we asked ourselves why we haven't been back before now as we used to go there quite regularly. Lobster Tail and Scallops were great bargain. We will return now that we realize what we have been missing.

Historic restaurant with cable-car ride down to riverside setting.
Usually excellent and professional service, varied and creative menu.
Romantic spot prized by locals for 70 years -- great for birthday, anniversary, etc.
Make reservations and arrive early -- parking is usually hard to find.

Service was wonderful. Our waiter Wyatt was helpful with recommendations and giving us enough time to look over the menu before ordering. At no point during the meal did we feel rushed even though the restaurant was very busy. The blackened lamb and mushroom bread pudding were outstanding. F we lived closer I would go Bach again next week.

Always solid spot for special occasions. Classic steakhouse food, beautiful location and super fun little funicular to ride to or from the restaurant. Great place to bring your parents or grandparents. Fun, cozy bar scene as well, with midweek and happy hour food specials.

The filet mignon was well cooked and so was the blackened lamb. The home made rolls were delicious and the wait for a table was not too long. Only issue was the waiter seemed to forget us in the corner and we happened to get seated near a large group that got louder as the drinks get coming. Overall it was a nice experience to have in Capitola but the price is a bit too high for me.

This is a beautiful place to dine -- a very special place. We locals are fortunate to have this amazing restaurant here. The service was excellent, and the food was very good (except for minimally cooked vegetables). The main dining area appears not to be laid out for people who can't climb stairs. However, the Rock Room might be accessible. We also encountered only mail waitpersons. it would be good to have some waitresses there!

The ambience was better than expected. The service was great, especially when my wife had an unusual problem, they were very gracious and responsive. The food was excellent and timely. My impression was that, not only did the dining experience succeed but the entire framing of the evening exceeded expectation. Well done.

Thee of the four entrees were well prepared and tasty. One of our party ordered sand dabs, which were so badly prepared they should have been sent back. They were badly seasoned and tasted as if they had been frozen and thawed out several times.

Most of the restaurant was empty but we were sat like sardines in one area. I grew tired of the waitstaff's backsides hitting me while they serviced the next table. Not a bit of privacy as you were so close to the next table. Lamb was suggested by the waiter for the birthday girl, was dry and overdone. Overpriced.

We have eaten at the Shadowbrook many times in the past and this time the experience was wonderful as it has been in the past. I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone especially for special occasions. The tram experience is unique and I can't say enough good things about the dining experience.

Shadowbrook never disappoints. We were seated in a quiet area and served by Mark. He graciously decanted a wine we had brought, made suggestions on entrees selections, and took our orders. Service was crisp and the food cooked to perfection.
