Salacia Prime Seafood and Steaks Ratings and Reviews
Had reservation, but had to wait 15-20 minutes to get a table which was frustrating as I had made special arrangements as it was our Anniversary. Nobody even acknowledged the fact that it was our Anniversary even though I made that very plain at time of reservation & an in-person visit to the manager to ensure all went well. Was not what I expected from a 4 star dining experience.
Service was ok, it seemed like our waiter had too many tables. We didn’t order our main course meal until 2 hours after we got there. We didn’t finish eating until 12:30. We didn’t think we were going to be there that long. Mind you once we got our food we eat it immediately, we were starving. I will dine there again.
It was disappointing. I finally got my entree two hours after my reservation time. I ordered crab cakes with a lobster tail. The tail was so salty that I couldn’t eat it. My waiter sent it back to the kitchen. He brought another one that was exactly the same. Extremely salty. I couldn’t eat it. The crab cakes were not good. Too much flour or breadcrumbs. The oysters at the beginning were very good as was the rose wine and the bread. That’s what I mostly had for dinner. My waiter was nice and diligent but not much he could do.
I enjoyed celebrating my birthday but I was unhappy with the food. I asked for well done filet mignon but instead I received a medium. Once I requested my steak to be cooked more, my waiter happily took my steak to be cooked and I received freshly set plate however it came back medium-well. I did not want to be a pest so I just ate around the pieces that were not pink. I paid $135.00 for our meals and I was not happy at the end of the night.
We recently went to Salacia for our wedding anniversary. The private room was nice, but the room was quite warm. My husband enjoyed his filet mignon, but my filet oscar special was just so-so (slightly overlooked, shell with each bite if crab, hammered asparagusFor the price, I'd opt for Byrd and Baldwin in Norfolk.
We came in at 6 pm and no one was at the reception desk another connected restaurant had to call them. They sat us in the farthest table away from the ocean view windows even though 95% of the tables were empty. They were already out of one of their specials at 6pm. It was extremely hot inside. They were obviously short of staff. Table next to us that came in about 5 minutes after us didn't get there main entree until after we had already eaten our appetizers, first and main course. The restaurant took 2 hours to get them their main entree and didn't even comp them for the meal or do anything to make up for it. They blamed a shared kitchen to a busier restaurant. The oysters were great but everything else was nothing special. When you are paying for an upscale, exclusive, advertised private dining room you expect much better service and availability of food and view.
As a frequent diner at Salacia, we love the outdoor booths. Wonderful setting and private. This time, it was Restaurant Week, which is always hectic. And we dined on a Saturday night. We selected the Restaurant Week 3 course special. The presentation was as normal, creative and unique. We would not order the monkfish entre again. The side of potatoes were not up to Salacia norm. We knew the busyness was the cause for a less than exceptional meal. But, our regular waiter Michael did his best under the circumstances, to live up to our expectations. We will certainly go back, as we love Salacia. Just not during Restaurant Week.
Attended restaurant week with friends who've never been there and I doubt that will ever go back… Food was not up to par for what they offer off the regular menu . A lot of people trying restaurants out for a restaurant weeks to determine if they'll go back at future times and neither one of my friends were impressed. The potatoes that came with our fish we're almost raw and tasted like they were freeze dried potatoes and the fish portion was extremely small.
Disappointed that our 7:30 reservation had somehow "been changed" to 8:15 - we didn't request a change. Eventually ended up seated, and dinner was worth the wait. We had the flash fried red snapper with asparagus as a side, and the fish was delicious. Attentive service as well made for an enjoyable evening, despite the delay.
Located in the Hilton Beachfront, Salacia is convenient to a parking garage and almost daily there is live entertainment right outside the main lobby. Salacia is a cut above restaurant for those looking for more than casual eats and wine. Salacia knows exactly how to set the mood for special occasions or fine dining. Dinner at Salacia was spectacular. Erol, our server, was a true professional in his field. He timed our appetizers, cocktails and entrees perfectly. Our dinner experience was no less five star dining. Salacia is a perfect location for diners who only want to experience a quiet, cozy or romantic dining experience with the right amount of background noise that will not interfere with your conversations. They offer a unique dining experience you don't find anywhere else in Virginia Beach. We enjoyed it and thanks to the management for keeping the Salacia brand from becoming just an average restaurant with all the bells and whistles.
Apart from taking awhile to be seated, our overall expierence was great!
This is especially true concerning the Wait Staff. They along with the hostess were extremely attentive.
I must say a special word about Michael. We've eaten in number of 4&5 star restaurants but the professionalism of this young man was impeccable!
His familIrarity with the menu along with his attentiveness to our table.
I must also mention the complementary items from the Chef!
All of this truly made our 44th Wedding Anniversary special.
I took my boyfriend of three years to this restaurant for his birthday. The restaurant is really decked out with nice decor, clean, and is really just a nice restaurant to be in, so that was comforting. I really liked the free valet, as parking could become quite difficult down at the oceanfront. There aren't too many restaurants you can get dressed up for in the area.
Our waiter was kind and very attentive. He made sure that we had everything we needed at our table and more. The food, however, was OK. I ordered a filet mignon cooked medium and my boyfriend ordered a ribeye cooked medium as well. When the food was delivered to us, the surface of my steak was a little too crispy and over cooked while my boyfriend's steak came out almost rare. We're not ones to complain though, so we finished our meal and tried to enjoy the rest of our date.
Vince, a server from the catch 31 side of the restaurant and good friend of my boyfriend, was kind enough to pay for my boyfriend's birthday cake slice (which should've been included anyways considering what I paid for the food) Also, when we were given the option between tap water and flat water, we had no idea that 4 glasses of flat water would add another $20 on the bill (the waiter or server didn't state that the flat water was an extra fee).
Overall it was an OK experience. As I've said before, it's a nice place to get dressed up for and have a few drinks, but I don't think I will be dinner here again.
My wife and I made a reservation at 8pm on a Friday night for our fancy dinner date. There is a well-attended bar just outside with fairly loud music, but when you pass through the doors into Salacia you leave the noise and confusion behind, and enter a tranquil space full of good smells and high-class place settings. The wait staff is highly attentive (if you get Errol, lucky you) the wine list is superb, and every morsel is an experience engineered to delight you. While quite expensive, we found Salacia to be 100% worth it.
Met fully our expectations with exception that menu had no main entree of steamed - or other variation - shrimp, the only entree my spouse selects when dining out. Our service was excellent except that our head waiter's voice was too soft and low of amplitude for me to understand...a relay technique was employed by my spouse/guest.
