Never disappointed with Ryan's. Went there with some friends to celebrate my wife's birthday. Food was great, service was as well. Everyone said there food was perfect and with a large party (6 at our table) that's rare when dining out.

We went for our wedding anniversary and were sat on the upper level next to the kitchen right by the stairs... We could barely concentrate due to the high traffic. The service was slow. The food was mediocre. Is it too much to ask for food to be seasoned? All a steak needs is salt and pepper. They were nice to give us dessert to go since it was our anniversary. This is the second time we've been and I don't think we're going back. When paying $100 for a meal for 2 people, is it too much to ask for the food to be good?

Awesome steak, definitely still lives up to the "best steak in Winston-Salem" nickname. My parents got engaged here back in 1983 and my family has been celebrating special occasions here for years. Highly recommend!

This was my first visit to this restaurant and I will be visiting again very soon. The setting looks like you are in the middle of a forest. The restaurant itself is charming. The staff look and act as if they truly enjoy their work and this is reflected in the quality of the service. Oh, and the food is exquisite, both in appearance and taste.

Asked for a window seat, they did put us in a back corner with just a side view, someone would have been facing a wall!! They moved us to a window that overlooked the brook, which I had asked for. Other than that the food was excellent and waitress very friendly.

Good and steady Ryan's never ceases to make me and those I take there happy. Classic late 70's-1980's speak house with good classic favorites like French Onion Soup, Shrimp Cocktail, wedge salad, etc. There's also lobster tails, crab cakes, you name it..a classic steakhouse. A little pricey if compared to the average family restaurant in the area but for me worth every penny.

Unfortunately, the tables are very close together. Our waitress could bot get to our table due to the large yable of eight that was set up beside us. I that this was a problem in most of the area.
I a steak to be cookex with no pink. Although the outside was burnt it was pink on the inside. Our took so long to return O that it worth the wait to send it back my was done with his food.
I impressed for my first and last visit.

My wife and I both had steaks and they were excellent. They were aged certified angus and came from the midwest where we both grew up and know that they grow the best beef in the county. Service was superb (I was impressed that our server knew the details of all the menu items and their ingredients..some of which were not familiar to me. We had excellent wine and cocktails. We will come back to this restaurant.

We went for my husband's birthday. From the time we arrived, the hostess wished him a happy birthday. Once seated, the waitress wished him a happy birthday. We did not have to wait at all. We had reservations for almost 45 minutes prior to our arrival so we had planned to go to the bar. The hostess went ahead and seated us a table. The service and food was outstanding. I highly recommend this place!

We lived in Winston for 35 years and Ryans was always at the top of our list for special occasions. We now live in Charleston, SC and came back for our 40th anniversary and of course chose Ryans as out special night out. They had put us at a perfect table overlooking the woods and creek. Once the waiter found out we were not going to order drinks or appetizer, he pretty much did the minimum attention he could get away with.
We both ordered fish. I ordered the sea bass and my husband ordered the grouper. The grouper was a 7 out of ten but both my husband and I gave the sea bass a 3 to 4. It was very dry and had about a tablespoon of peach salsa. The sea bass had very little flavor. Maybe we are spoiled by the fish in Charleston but we were sad that it did not live up to our previous experiences.
That said, we would give it another try because of the previous times before that were outstanding and we would recommend friends to give it a try. We would probably recommend they not get fish.

When in Winston Salem our first meal is always at Ryans.
To start you can expect a basket with warm rolls served with a cheese spread and also butter. As a first course, the bacon wrapped scallops are delicious and while not very original- the jumbo lump crabmeat is fresh and served with a great cocktail sauce. I am partial to the classic onion soup.
When it comes to a main course we are quite predictable, Lobsters for our son and myself and steak for my husband- the side dishes are delicious- don't miss the brussels sprouts with caramelized onions with a touch of blue cheese and the garlic mashed potatoes!
Desserts are all very good but we are generally too full for any!
We are from New York City and have many good "Steakhouse" style restaurants to choose from...we rate Ryans high up for this style of restaurant.
You won't be disappointed!

Went for family member's birthday. All steaks were cooked to perfection. I got the NC trout that was on special and it was a little dry, but still had excellent flavor.
She crab is still the best in town and possibly the best I've ever had. Just amazing.

Excellent Meal with great staff being very attentive to our needs and wants during our meal.
Reservations were made and staff were very much prepared for our arrival. All requests made for reservation were detailed and ready as requested. Wonderful, wonderful dining experience.

Love Ryans and its one of our special places to go. My only objection is that people show up in shorts, ballcaps and shirt tales out more and more. There's nothing the restaurant can do about this poor upbringing but it's becoming more noticeable sadly and certainly not only at Ryans! Our fam and friends will continue to dress respectfully and appropriately for the special place Ryans is!

Great meal at Ryan's. The Filet was perfect with Bernaise sauce and a side of truffle fries. My sons enjoyed their meals as well. I hadn't been back to Ryan's since 1984, when I graduated from Wake and moved north. The food and service was just as good 30 years later.

Great food, wonderful atmosphere, nice view in the woods of the stream and wildlife that pass through. Even nicer in the winter with the snow. Service was excellent. Had the filet mignon and you could cut it with a butter knife. Really tender and juicy. Had dessert to go as we were both full from dinner. Couple behind our table were celebrating 42 years of marriage. Terrific evening at Ryan's Steaks and Chops.
