Great food! Moderate size portions, neither minuscule nor overfilled plates. The only disappointment was our server. She used a very low voice and seemed to confidence and the pace of the meal was very slow. We enjoyed talking with our guests, but even they commented on this as well. Since none of us was in a hurry, it was ok but not as we'd experienced previously.
Our entire experience was filled with trying to kill the never ending amount of flies at our table. The restaurant was extremely hot. The canoe appetizer was great. My fiancé and I both ordered the New York Strip for our meal. We are both very particular about how our steaks are cooked. Both of our steaks were extremely over salted. We thought the basil sauce that we got on the side might balance it out but nope. It’s was liquid salt with mushrooms in it. Did we send it back? No we both hate wasting food. We both ate what we could stomach and took the rest home to enjoy our salt at a later time. Our waiter was nice but lacked in some skill sets. Should be taught how to pour wine so it doesn’t run down the bottle and all over the table. Not my mess to clean up but still and observation considering this place isn’t exactly Chili’s. Second he thought it was a good idea to put the wine bucket at the end of our booth. From the booth I had to pick up and move this bucket just to get out. Not a big deal, funny more than anything, but once again this isn’t some rookie restaurant. That brings me to what it all boils down to. For four of us our bill was almost $700. Not one single experience could possibly justify coming here and spending this kind of money again. It’s simply not worth it. Especially when you have Fleming’s and Eddie V’s right next to it.
Such a beautiful comfortable atmosphere! Every dish was delicious. One of my favorite restaurants in all of Tampa Bay.
I took my fiancee last weekend for his birthday, and it was our first time going there. The staff there are so friendly and welcoming and even had a happy birthday card waiting for him at the table we reserved! And ended w/ a sweet birthday dessert and a picture from Roy's restaurant w/ a card. Thank you so much will be coming back soon... ps loved the pina colada!!! Thank you so much for making our night awesome !!!!
Although our server was very pleasant, she appeared to be too heavily booked and as a result our service was very slow. The food was good but not great (as it has been in the past) and the tuna sashimi was definitely not as fresh as it should be. Hopefully this was just an off night for a restaurant we frequent and in which we almost always have a great experience.
Roy's used to be my favorite restaurant but had a bad meal there two years ago and haven't been since but after looking at the menu thought that it had returned to normal so decided to celebrate my birthday there with my family. It was the WORST meal I have ever experienced - it was so bad it was almost comical .
First no sushi sampler available. We had to ask for wine - drinks were not offered on arrival. and eventually got a drink guessing 45 minutes maybe longer after being seated. My grouper was soggy, undercooked and inedible but the others were too polite to complain but I saw a lady left her steak. After the main course the bill was presented. When we asked for the dessert menu we were told the chocolate soufflé was off and the pineapple cake should have been ordered ahead - just key lime pie, so we ordered that. Then we were told that was off! My son asked for anything with a candle so they could sing Happy Birthday so they brought a chocolate brownie with a candle. I will say that the waiter was doing his best but something was wrong somewhere.
We had a six o'clock reservation and so expected to be served quickly but didn't leave till 8.45pm - too long for small children to sit. Very disappointing - made for a memorable family celebration which we will laugh about but we certainly will never be back.
It was a very lovely experience, thank you Sam for everything, food and service was impeccable.
Best service we ever had. Had a great waiter Kyle who was so attentive and accomidating. My friend felt like a queen on her birthday. Thanks so much
Always love Roy's. After 9 years living in Hawaii, Roy's became a staple for a great dinner out for a special occasion, friends/family visiting or just anytime you want a great dinner. They are awesome with kids as well, quickly bringing a kids starter quesadilla and veggies (hopefully before a hunger meltdown happens) making it so much easier to go out to a nice dinner with little ones. This visit to Roy's for our anniversary was a great time to reminisce about our wedding rehearsal meal back in Hawaii. Again the meal was terrific and the service great. So glad to have this little piece of Hawaii here in Tampa!!!
The food was fantastic and the service as well. I highly recommend Roy's Place and will definitely come here again.
Great place and ambiance. We have never been disappointed.
Courteous and professional service.
Always consistent. We are never disappointed. I would recommend Roy's to anyone who has never been here before. A creative and always changing menu that is worth the visit. Very reasonable pricing.
Believe it or not, service was too fast. Not complaining, but felt a little rushed for a slow Monday night. Really good food, smaller portions, but hey we could all use smaller portions. Atmosphere was perfect for Hawaiian. Super friendly, totally worth it.
This is a great restaurant with a great menu variety. The seafood is excellent with a good mix of appetizers, sushi, and steaks! Waiter service excellent! Good recommendations and I followed them for appetizer and entree. Got the 4 fish entree- salmon, tuna, mahi, and butter fish. Best way to try their customer favorite menu items in one shot.
Pleased with everything we ordered. Drinks are abut pricey but highly recommend the Jalapeno margarita.
Only draw backs are high noise level and not great ambience, but who cares when you are there to eat!
My friend and I had a wonderful time st Roy’s for aloha hour last night. The food: lobster pot stickers, Ebi Roll, and the chocolate soufflé were wonderful! My first molten chocolate soufflé was not “molten” enough and my server replaced it immediately. People were always checking in on us to ensure that we had everything we needed, I will return!
Great overall experience
Food was excellent. Ordered lobster, shrimp and scallop entrée. Everything was cooked perfectly. Appetizer dish of ribs was moist and tender, could of used a little more flavor or spiciness to the sauce.
The food and service were great but the music was not very comforting. The atmosphere was more casual than I expected from a fine dining establishments.
Food and service were both excellent. We had the short ribs and salmon and both were very good choices.
Great food and Great time with friends. Our waiter was excellent
Let me start by saying, I usually love Roy's. When we travel, if there's a Roy's in the city, that's where we go. The food is always good. This time in Tampa, however, I was VERY disappointed. I called a week before our reservation to let them know that we would be there celebrating my son and new daughter-in-law's wedding. The lovely woman I spoke to on the phone was very excited, asked their names (including the spelling) for a congratulatory note card, and said she would have the table decorated beautifully with orchids to make it special. So we get there on Friday evening and the table has a generic "Thanks for celebrating with us" card on it and two CHEAP, FAKE leis. (Seriously! You know, the ones you buy in bags of 100 for your summer back yard barbeque.) I was actually rather embarrassed. They threw in a free dessert, but then so does Denny's. You dropped the ball Roy's Tampa.
Well trained staff with well prepared tasty food. Nice wine list! Not inexpensive but worthwhile.
Service was horrible. Everyone around us was complaining. Not sure we will go back. There is too many great restaurants and when service is poor and nobody at door to ask how everything was..... not sure how they will survive. Food was very good.
The best server there was Mike. He was attentive and paid attention to our needs and made sure we had a great night!
Very loud, hard push by waitress to order dessert before meal, messed up one order but recovered nicely
EXCELLENT. 4.5 Stars. YES, we will be back. DETAILED VERSION: We are fans of Roy's, and have been to this location and many others across the islands and mainland over the last 2 decades. We expected a very good to excellent meal and were not disappointed. SERVICE: We had reservations on a Saturday night and it was full. Promptly seated in a booth (by request) overlooking the restaurant. Our server - Alex - was very good. The right amount of attention and timing to enhance a nice evening. FOOD: We split the wedge salad - very good. Tasty and the right size to be split. We also had the pork ribs appetizers - the BBQ sauce was excellent on the dish. My wife had the Macadamia Nut Mahi Mahi for her entree. Excellent. Perfectly cooked and prepared the way she likes it. This was not her first time ordering it, so we had others to compare against. I had the Swordfish - Very good. A little less lettuce and something like green beans would have made it one notch better, but it was satisfying. We also had a cocktail and wine - reasonably priced for what you get. We did like the option of premium wines by the glass - a nice touch by Roy's. OVERALL: Another nice experience. Recommend you get reservations on weekends.
My wife and I hosted a dining out over the weekend. Had 12 couples with us and decided to try a new restaurant. The food was great and only surpassed by our server's ability. Will definitely be back - both in a more intimate setting and amongst our large group of friends. Our Kudo's to Roy's!
Perfect, as always!!!
I have been to many Roy's on many occasions. This by far was the worst one ever and it went from one of my favs to not going back again. Service was atrocious, food was fair and thanks for the "open kitchen" so I could see my food sit in the window there for 12 minutes with a total of 7 tables in the restaurant. Should have been a hint for me. Could have gone to the Cheesecake Factory across the street, and gotten a nice processed meal for half the price. Never again Roy!!
Delicious as always! A little pricey but I guess the prices are set by the quality of the food. The Ahi is the best we’ve had anywhere in the country. Hubby had s steak and it was cooked perfectly and very tasty but he kept stealing pieces of my ahi! Tried the canoe for two but not sure would get it again simply because the ribs were too sweet for me and the crispy wraps contained red peppers which I also can’t eat. Everything else was perfect. We’ve been to Roys before and the fish is always excellent. Generally always looking for something unusual without being overly sugary for appetizers.
Excellent food and unique preparation. The prawns were outstanding. Rachel was a charming server.
Compared it to our experience at Roy’s in Hawaii - very disappointed. The butterfish my wife had she described as “mediocre” and though the scallops were okay - I have had better. Perhaps not fresher but more well prepared.
A little loud for business
We love Roys! We have never had a bad meal And theservice is always great. This night we were celebrating a 50th Birthday and Roys made it extra special.
I've been coming to Roy's for the years and have always been very pleased with their food, service and experience. Chocolate souffle is a must have.
Went for lunch.
The place was like a morgue. Two tables occupied in the entire restaurant. Food was good. Service was horrible. I got there at 11:30am for lunch. My tea was delivered right away. I waited 30 minutes for the waiter to take my order. In an empty restaurant.
I would never return.
Roy need to give this one up!
Food specially the fish was awesome. The desert pineapple up side dawn was m was delicious
Our table of 3 visited the restaurant for lunch on Monday. It took 22 minutes to receive our edamame appetizer. We had the box lunch and the soup was excellent however the lettuce for the salad was old and bitter. There were only 3 shrimp and a tiny scoop of rice which was cold and hard. Not worth $18. Another person in our party ordered salmon which was cold and over cooked and taken off the bill. We were there for an hour and 50 minutes which is ridiculous for a lunch.
Highly, highly disappointing.
