Roy's Tampa Ratings and Reviews
First time at Roy's. We had a Groupon and were given a Groupon menu which made us feel limited. The filet I had was covered in a sauce which was very salty. I wish they would have put the gravy on the bottom of the steak or better yet in a separate small dish. The side of broccoli and asparagus was an insult, over cooked with one piece of asparagus (what ?). The hamburger my husband ordered had a great review by him.
I would not recommend this place to an enemy! Absolutely do not go here. Worst food and value dining experience we have had in Tampa.
First of all, we felt rushed from the moment we sat down. My husband ordered a mango mojito, which was awful. We started with the Aunt Lei roll, which was fishy tasting. We ordered two of the halibut special. Shame on us for not asking the price. $56 each, for an overcooked piece of fish served on a scoop of rice with two measly pieces of broccoli. We also ordered the sautéed mushrooms as a side. Disappointed in these as well since they were rubbery and lacked flavor.
Sadly, we went there to celebrate my husband's birthday. Oh how I wish I could do the night over.
The food at Roy's was excellent and the service was the same. this was our first time at a Roy's so we weren't sure what to expect. Prices are on the high-end, but the food and service are well worth the price. I had the Roy's Trio and each piece of fish in a paired sauce was delicious. My husband had the ribeye which looked and tasted fantastic. We greatly appreciated that Roy's team (chef/team, wait staff, front desk, etc.) were all skilled in customer service, knew the menu, made recommendations, and could talk about wine and good food. We also appreciate the incredible unusual food we received. my husband and I love to cook, so going to restaurants can be boring when we can make better food at home. Roy's was different in that we could not replicate the food we had at home. Very nice! we really enjoyed the experience.
We celebrated my birthday. The filet and lobster tail were delicious. My husband enjoyed the rib eye as well. The one menu item that was questionable was what was listed as a chocolate soufflé. I did not feel this dessert was a chocolate soufflé but more of a lava cake instead. I am very familiar with soufflé and this was not an actual soufflé.
We had not been to Roys in a few years and we were excited to see how it was. It was disappointing from start to finish. The service was lacking and my husband's food languished while we waited to find our server to ask for salt, pepper and a bit more dressing for the salad. My $14.00 martini was the worst value ever and was definitely light on the vodka and we waited 15 minutes for the drink to arrive after ordering. I was surprised to see brown leaves as part of the Caesar salad. When my prawns came suffice it to say it was surprising to receive three prawns for $30.00. My husband's trio for $38.00 offered very small portions of the butterfish, salmon and tuna. He did enjoy the flavors of each fish though our meals must have been sitting with the slow service-they were served barely lukewarm. With one drink, one salad and two entrees, our bill was over $100 and we left hungry.
It was my husbands birthday, which I had mentioned too many times. There was a nice card on the table but the dessert didn't come with anything special or any special writing as I specifically requested. So I was a bit disappointed but the food was so delicious and my husband was happy with that.
We've been to Roy's before but it had been awhile. This visit was just mediocre. For the price, our expectations were higher. The service was ok. The food was not proportional- 4 of us got the same entree as all 4 servings were vastly different. The Resturant it self has wear and tear. The bathrooms are old. The art hanging next to our table was peeling. There are several fine dining options in Tampa and this one is a disappointment.
First, the place was far to warm. Waiter acknowledge the temp but said there was nothing they could do. This is FL, they need to have adequate ac. Some of the food was very good, some just ok. Chocolate souffle was burned and not edible. Expensive. Place is very noisy too. Out waiter was very good and did his best. Will probably not return.
I hadn't been to Roys in years. I remember it being a class act, really nice inside and wonderful atmosphere. This time I walked in and felt like I walked into 1985. Mustard and Ketchup walls, awful art, very bright lighting. Our server wasn't bad but definitely didn't have initiative. Glasses empty, didn't bring soy sauce but we had plates and sushi. Just simple things. Food was ok, some better than others but with all the competition in the area, I highly doubt I will go back. Crab fried rice was so over cooked. It's so much better next door at Wddie V's. I only had two appetizers and two glasses of wine and with tip I spent over $70. I will pay for good food but this wasn't it.
My wife and I got married in Hawaii 13 years ago and it became a tradition for us to go to Roy's every year for our anniversary, so we've been going to the Tampa location for that number of years for our anniversary and at various other times. This year we went on Valentines Day and we were sorely disappointed with the service and quality. We went back for our Anniversary dinner on June 17 and were again disappointed. Used to when you went and let them know it was a special occasion, they treated it like that, this time, not so much. The food was just ok and both my wife's and my steak were over cooked and the server was not very efficient. To be fair we got to Roy's a little early to have a cocktail and appetizer at the bar before getting set at our table and our experience at the bar was fantastic. Unfortunately I think our 13 year run at Roy's has come to an end but we may still do the occasional visit to the bar for cocktails and appetizers.
Rachel was very good. It was our anniversary so they made a point to put a special message and fresh flowers on our table. Very nice! Unfortunately, the bar was very slow, the majority of the customers were way underdressed for this kind of a place, the food was overpriced, & the noise level was extremely high. We had a lot of trouble hearing each other. Likely won't be back.
Was in town to celebrate my wife's birthday and see a show at the Ray-J stadium. Was amazed from the second we walked in. Table was covered in orchids, with a personalized card wishing her a happy birthday. The Food was delicious, took us back home to Hawaii with every bite.
