Roy's San Diego Waterfront Ratings and Reviews
The experience was very nice, they could perhaps have a little bit better defined line at the check-in area, it was a bit chaotic. While most of the food was amazing, the small dinner salad was overly salty. The waitress brought us replacement salads without dressing, so all’s well that ends well. I was very pleased with my birthday lava cake. I will continue to eat at this great restaurant!
This was my second visit to Roy's. It seemed a bit noisier than I remembered, although certainly tolerable. We had an issue with the kitchen: my fish was served lukewarm and my companion's lamb was overcooked. Our waiter immediately took both plates back; the wait was relatively short given the number of guests in the restaurant waiting for their food. My fish came back perfectly; my companion's lamb was now undercooked but, because of the quality of the lamb, was edible. During our meal, the manager came over to apologize and offered to return the lamb once again; we declined the offer. Management not only deleted the charge of the lamb dish from our tab, but also my fish entree. They really bent over backward to see that we were satisfied. We both would return again.
We were outside and loved the waterfront view. The bar was great, the bartenders friendly (delicious custom made vodka basil gimlet), and the service very attentive. The food was spectacular. I did the seafood trio... can’t wait for my next opportunity to enjoy. As always, the Butterfish was melt in your mouth delicious.
We went for dinner on Thanksgiving. The restaurant was moderately full, but service was slow. I had the butterfish which was fine. My wife tried the Thanksgiving menu, she was sorely disappointed. I have dined at the Roy's in Baltimore many times and have had good overall experience there. This one in San Diego was a disappointment.
Food was amazing as always! Couldn’t decide what to eat so chose the classic four. Such a good option to be able to try a variety of fish when you can’t decide what to get! Chris was a great server. He was very friendly, attentive, and nice. Thanks for taking of us on our anniversary!
Had an early reservation because of a 9 pm flight. Bernard, our server, acknowledged that right away. In short, it was a wonderful dinner, and Bernard was delightful. Made good recommendations, checked in at the right times and made sure we finished in time—including time for an amazing dessert. He really made the experience exceptional. Thank you!
A bit of a challenge finding your way to Roy's from the Marriott- quite a maze. Interior a bit dark and feels dated. Outside seating is wonderful, right at the Marina and sunsets are spectacular (see photo). I have always loved their Butterfish (Alaskan Black Cod). De-lish. Steaks are good size. Nice flavors. I enjoy Roy's for a special treat. Can't really get out of there for under $100.
We visited this as a couple on vacation. The view of marina and sunset was fantastic. The menu ranges in price, good overall selections, with ala cartel sushi most reasonable. We had shrimp cocktail and sushi rolls with beer and wine. Food well-prepared. Prices were on the high side. Overall good experience with great view.
Request a waterfront or outside table if the weather is nice. Start with a signature cocktail like the Paradise Found which is big and refreshing or the Hawaiian Martini a bit on the lighter side. We ate light and shared a sushi roll (Sunrise at Haleakala Roll) and the Misoyaki Butterfish with a side of asparagus and a nice bottle of white wine. Everything was delicious. Don't forget dessert. The pineapple upside down cake is my favorite. The food is always excellent at Roy's with great presentation and wait staff.
It started very promising but it went down very quickly. We had reservation but were sited by the dishwasher window which had constant commotion and noise. The food was deliver to fast, we did not finish appetizers and main dish was already on the table. We were told that big party was coming so they did not want us to wait. In addition my husband's scallops were almost raw, we had to send them back. The next plate was better but cold. Overall food was tasty but service spoiled our experience. We were out in an hour. It felt like very expensive fast food.
