After reading reviews online, I took a chance on this establishment for dinner. We were welcomed with a lukewarm reception, then seated in an extension of the building with a lovely view of people using the restrooms. We ordered drinks and the fried green tomato appetizer to share. Within minutes of starting the appetizer, our entrees arrived. Thank God we did not order dessert or it would have been placed on top of the entree-who does this? I finished the appetizer, while my entree sat in the middle of the table. Once I started my entree, the appetizer plate sat empty in the middle of the table for the duration of the meal. The food was mediocre at best. Upon discussing the sevice issue/food, our server had the two glasses of wine comped. I would not recommend this restuarant-tourist trap. They should take some lessons from Magnolias in Charleston.
Waitress was more worried about preparing for st Patrick's day than serving us.
Great spot for our dinner out in Savannah. The River House restaurant really did stand out among all the restaurants on River Street and I am glad we chose it for its great setting and service.
Excellent food and service.
Excellent seafood meal. Good service. We had the steamed shellfish platter and baked red snapper.
Great food right near the river!
The River House Seafood is located in one of Savannah's historic refurbished warehouses and still has the original brick floor. Th ambiance is quite nice - not too loud, tables not too close together so that you can have a conversation. We were seated right away and had a time limit. Service was good but a tad slow - had trouble finding our server when we wanted to get the bill. Other than that, the staff were friendly, helpful and delightful. I would go back again. The Grouper Florentine was fabulous, the Salmon perfectly cooked, and one guest had the Fried Chicken sandwich which he said was delicious. It was just the right amount of food for lunch - not too much, not too little. Surprisingly not too crowded on a Friday at lunchtime but it did start filling up around 1:00. A must try in Savannah.
This was a great find on our last night in Savanna. The red snapper was amazing. Peach Cobbler was good. Service was on point. My husband and I enjoyed. This is a definite fav in Savanna for me.
Quite a nice choice for our first dinner in Savannah. The plus was it was downstairs in the hotel we had booked! Treated just fair by hostesses manning station outside until we mentioned we had reservations with Open Table and they stepped up the hospitality!! Food was good. Partner and I both had seafood. Drinks were good, too. Very nice perk was the guitarist who strummed and sang quietly while we dined.
Great meal here at River view. I arrived 30 minutes earlier than my reservation, which was no issue, they sat me immediately. The server took a bit long to come over and acknowledge she had another table but once she did she was very attentive and friendly. Food was great.
Went there for the fish. Lots of choices. Our group tried three and all were excellent.
The food and service were great. We look forward to coming back to try more of the wonderful menu offerings.
Great food and great service, excellent view of the river. This was the fourth time we have eaten here and will be back again on our next visit in Sept.
Food was average - scrimp was frozen and not fresh. Salad was fair. Had to request lemon for fish. My friend enjoyed hers more. Very touristy.
My boyfriend and I dined there this Valentine’s Day. The ambiance was very quiet and romantic. The food was very delicious. I have been talking about the sweet potato mash with pecans for days. I would definitely visit again.
We ordered several appetizers instead of entrees. They were delicious! We loved the Crab Bisque. I had a Bellini which was quite tasty and hubby had Chardonnay which he liked very much. The restaurant is on the river and easy to get to. We will come back!
Great location on Savannah river front. Attractive entrance and comfortable ambiance. Waiter was friendly and helpful. Lobster crab bisque was very good, as were the fried green tomatoes. Savannah paella was excellent choice and three of us had it. Prices were fair for restaurant on River Street.
First visit. We will come back.
service was good. alot of good food options. everything was properly prepared and came out right.
We had a good time and good food and wine; excellent service and reasonable prices.
Food was much better than you might expect for a restaurant in a tourist area. All of the food was very good and well prepared.
Server was very attentive, but all of the food courses came much too quickly. Entrees came before we finished appetizers. We felt rushed.
Overall, a good experience.
My husband and I had specialty dinners and neither ine had much taste. My paella was so dry I really only picked at it.
Great find on the Savannah waterfront. Delicious seafood, excellent service. The location in a former cotton warehouse was charming.
Appetizers were good. Entrees were marginal. Chicken very dry and tasteless. Gumbo was more like a stew. The desserts were OK. Our waiter was forgetful but pleasant. The ambiance was great, but the meal was less than average. We’ve had better meals at chain restaurants all over the country. We expected better fare, especially because of restaurant week. Most places try to impress customers so they will come back.
Excellent service and ambiance. Food was just okay.
Delicious food, nicely presented.
Wait staff were friendly, but should have been more attentive.
Food was not very good. Fish was filled with bones and tasted fishy, so we sent it back. Asparagus was not cooked (rock hard with no seasoning) and no flavor with the pasta. Never leave reviews, but had to on this one, especially for the price we paid...not worth it!
As our-of-towners, it's always hard to find a good place to eat, so we ask locals where they go for a special occasion. The River House was the recommendation, and it did not disappoint. With ample adjacent parking, this River Street location was convenient and there was plenty of shopping nearby to walk off those calories. The wait staff were friendly and efficient, and the ambiance was pleasant. The food of course is the main thing, and both meals exceeded our expectations. The ingredients were fresh and prepared perfectly. Definitely recommended.
Our first time dining at the River House and will be back over and over! The oysters are fabulous, and the scored flounder is better than any we've had in Savannah!
We went to the restaurant because of a friends recommendation
It was great. We went in early and Aaron was our server. He was assume. Knowledgeable, friendly and very good. Highly recommend asking for him.
I had the stew,it was fantastic with more than enough to eat. My guest has the chicken breast, Mac& cheese Killer good.
We will eat back for sure.
Nice place comfortable setting. Not high end eating but a large variety of food. You can. Find something to fit your taste.
Amazing food and excellent service. Thank you so much
Excellent food in a great atmosphere. Seafood was cooked to perfection
Food was above average and the prices were about right. We booked this because it was right next to our hotel
Early dinner for New Year’s eve. Server was friendly and attentive. We had pecan encrusted salmon with sweet potatoes and collards, and grouper with mashed potatoes. Both were tasty. Good drink specials and desserts.
Very good service. Followed the server's recommendations, and enjoyed the Fried Green Tomatoes appetizer and blue crab stuffed Flounder entree. Both served attractively and hot.
Food and ambiance were great!! Definitely exceeded our expectations!! Service was great as well.
Enjoyed the lobster bisque and the fried green tomatoes were delicious also
Unfortunately for a mid week dinner in high season we were disappointed by the fact that they were out of fresh grouper, clams, bisque, and flounder. Service was great but menu greatly shrunk with limited seafood options.
We chose this place based on the recommendations and reviews. However, it did not live up to the reviews at all. The service was poor, our server did not want to be there and it was evident in their attitude and service after our food arrived. I ordered the fried halibut and it was over battered, over seasoned and the fish was very thin. The batter was twice the thickness of the fish. Would have complained, but the waiter never showed! The other guest with me said their food was ok, but not the best they have had. We decided it was just barely ok and would not come back when we visit Savannah again.
