A special-occasion restaurant on the Brooklyn waterfront.
Would definitely recommend for anniversaries. View is stunning & food is excellent.
Great experience but be prepared to spend! We had a party of 4 and a 2 year old with us. 2 in our party didnt speak English. The staff found a spanish speaker to help accommodate any questions and explain the menu. They accomodated the baby perfectly. Now about the food. We had a 3 course meal, choose an appetizer, choose an entree, and choose a dessert. I ordered the wagyu steak tartare having never eaten raw beef before. The way they prepared it was absolutely fantastic. It was delicious and seasoned perfectly. I then had the grouper entree which was cooked to perfection and the artichoke ravioli that came with it were also delightful. Finally, the dessert I ordered was the pistachio something which was paired perfectly with some kind of citrus sorbet. The rest of my party all enjoyed what they ordered and we each got something different. Everything about the experience was top notch and I will definitely return next trip to NYC
I love everything, thanks for the attention and good food
This place is wonderful. Old school fine dining at its best. You certainly pay for it, but the view, service and food/drink quality are worth it. Of note: View of Manhattan cocktail, Niman Ranch steak and those mashed potatoes. Yum!
The ambiance was excellent and the dinner was amazing! Service was attentive, but not overbearing. This was the perfect place to have a romantic dinner and celebrate my wife's birthday!
Très. Trop cher
Once in a lifetime evening.everything perfect
A perfect night
I had the displeasure of dining here, on March 17th during the lunch service. We were seated immediately and given a nice table. It was nice that they acknowledged our anniversary.
Everything from then on went completely downhill. We aren't sure if we were treated so poorly because we were the youngest there or because they thought we couldn't afford eating there (lunch is pre fixe so I am spending around the same amount as everyone else). We ordered a split of the Rose Champagne. When the waiter brought out the wine, he said "Let me try to squeeze two glasses out of this" with a huge smirk. Now, I work in a luxury hotel and have done Food & Beverage operations....a split fits two glasses. We went on to order our appetizer and entree. Our appetizers were brought out but our plates were switched. Now, at any other restaurant we would have switched plates immediately, but every time you look up there are about 8 employees staring at you, not scanning the room but you will notice for minutes at a time they just are looking at you. We felt uncomfortable switching our plates. We felt we were being treated worse than the family who had on t-shirts and jeans. Eventually we switched our plates and enjoyed our appetizers which were outstanding. A half hour goes by and we are presented with our entrees. As the server walked away from our table he rolled his eyes. I noticed it, but did not say anything to my boyfriend because I could tell he wasn't enjoying getting watched by every worker there. We finished our meal and the couple seated next to us was talking selfies, and we noticed no one was looking at them. Our first waiter asks if we would like dessert, which my boyfriend and I declined. The waiter was shocked that we did not want to order any dessert. He brought out a small plate of desserts. We didn't want any but thought it would be rude of us if we did not eat any. As soon as we were finished we asked for the bill, and practically ran out. Awful service.
One of our best make ever. River Cafe is a special place. Recommend to everyone.
The River Cafe is among the top 5 of any restaurants we have visited. Everything about the venue, food, ambience was magical. The views across the bridge at night were amazing. A night to be remembered forever.
Our son recommended it to us - we will be for we grateful & will be happy to forward the recommendation on to any friends or family when they visit New York
Anytime you can have a meal of that caliber and look across the river at the Statue of Liberty and Manhattan it can only get five stars. We only make it to NYC once a year and the River Cafe is always on our agenda.
What an amazing ex
I had been wanting to come to River Café for years and I’m glad so say that it was everything I expected and then some. There is really only one word to describe the experience we had, OUTSTANDING.
Amazing. Went for my wife’s 40th birthday. Best restaurant I’ve ever eaten in. Staff were quality, nothing was too much hassle. ☘️
Good food, service have spaces for improvement. Should try lobster, very good.
The service, the food, the place, everything 10/10.
Superb dining experience, as always. This is our go-to place for special occasions when in the city and we had dinner this past Saturday to celebrate my wife’s birthday. He ambiance, view of the Brooklyn Bridge and lower Manhattan, the impeccable service and delicious food and wine were incredible once again. We have been dining here over he past 20 years or so and each and every time we have the same positive dining experience.
Required dress code , however never mentioned it when restaurant called me for confirmation on the reservation!!! Kind of ruin the mood when they forced me to wear the stupid suit jacket offer by the restaurant food is average , this the kind of restaurant you are just paying for the view and atmosphere !!! I most likely will not come for 2 Nd time and my wife feels the same way
50th wedding anniversary
Incredible view, unrepliable waterfront, very adequate intn'l service, friendly "acceuil", meticolous care after reservation-prior to dinner appointment customer care accurate and faithful accomplishment of requests like table position and birthday'candle ;but but .......plate preparations were a bit inadequate and I noticed not enough openness to a bit more innovative cuisine interpretation.
We eat here whenever we are in Brooklyn. The setting and the view across to Manhattan are breathtaking. The food and service are both truly outstanding. I cannot think of anywhere else in NYC where we have eaten any better! Pricy but well worth it! The ambience was just to our liking and the pace of service allowed us to sit back and enjoy the view!
Service was exceptional. It is a special place and one people should visit for a special occasion. Delicious food and impressive wine list. Great experience.
beautiful and wonderful experience, I love the romantic at the same time private feel of this place – the view is fantastic- the food wonderful, the wine the dessert, everything was fantastic-
Experience was truly amazing...
The food was incredible as was the service. Truly a memorable experience.
My new fiance and I really enjoyed everything about our experience at the River Cafe. I chose the restaurant because of the great view and the great reviews. It did not disapoint! I got engaged that night and plan to take my future wife there on dates for a long time to come.
The view, the food, and the service were incredible.
Stunning views, food, service and ambience. Perfect night and worth every penny.
The food was absolutely incredible, solid service, great ambiance and an unbeatable location.
Hospitality and food outstanding. Service was exceptional.
. A little bit on the expensive side
Amazing views. Food was delicious. Grumpy face when we ordered nearly the cheapest wine on the menu but otherwise amazing. I told them in advance it was my wife’s birthday and they ha candles on the dessert so nice touch
Beautiful location to enjoy the best food and wine served impeccably
A very disappointing experience to say the least. Friends were from out of town & wanted to go to a restaurant with a view so per their request, I booked dinner at 6pm and specified a window view via OpenTable. When we got there, the hostess asks if we would like to check our coats and we say no but thank you but what was next was not only embarrassing but devastating. She then goes to my friend with short hair, "Sir, we require men to wear a suit jacket". Then I said, "I'm sorry, she's a woman". Of course, she apologizes and shows us the way inside the restaurant and then the manager there said, "excuse me, we require men to wear a jacket". Again, "I had to say, I'm sorry, she's a female!". Wow. Really? You would think if they made an embarrassing mistake like that, they would inform each other that they just said something so inappropriate. This already left a really bad taste in my mouth but I didn't want to make a scene since my friends wanted to eat here.
Then they ask us to wait at the bar because our table wasn't ready and we got to our table, it wasn't even a window seat. The restaurant wasn't busy at all and only had two other tables. We also got there 10 mins early too. We ask if we can have the table at the end by the window since it's a table for 4 but the gentleman said why? This table is better. They gave us a table not by the window and it was a table for like 5. Really? Wow, talk about accommodating customers who made early dinner reservations with special request? So we sat down and around 8pm, we saw the table we wanted got seated with 3 people. Now, how was that table not available to us when we were there before them and our dinner reservations was earlier? The restaurant was not even busy when we got there. I can understand if you seat that table with 2 or 4 guests but this table has the same number of party as we did, 3. As a foodie, I've been to many restaurants & this is one I would definitely NOT recommend or go back again. Simply horrible.
Just amazing. We have been once before and we will be back again. It is a must when we visit NY.
Excellent food, wonderful service, great view
Is always a nice place to go. The view is a gift and the extraordinary kitchen.
This time we had a delicious waygou tartar, foie grass, lobster, steak, a good Bordeaux wine and a glass of champagne. Everything was perfect.
Beautiful place for a special dinner. Great place to celebrate my 50th Birthday!
Amazing! It’s worth every minute! Service, ambient and overall, the views!
