nice location, we ate outside in side patio...music was VERY loud....and a bit frantic.....very upbeat!!! but couldn't have nice conversation when he was playing. probably better inside. food was good....served quickly and hot.....waiter was nice guy, but forgot about us after food was served and took 10 minutes to present bill after table was cleared......service could be improved.
but, we would go back....give them 2nd chance....and eat inside if entertainment is there!!!!
We really enjoyed our first meal at Rio ...
We really enjoyed our first meal at Rio Azul, so close to downtown Palm Springs. The food was truly excellent. We tried the ceviche tosadas for appetizer, the house margaritas, the albondigas soup and the chile verde. It was all so delicious, and as I am a true fan of chile verde, I can say that theirs is one of the best I've ever tried. The pork was tender and delectable, with very little fat, and the verde sauce/gravy was simply superb. It had the perfect combination of tomatillos, spices and cilantro. Yummy!! The albondigas (meatball) soup was also really good, with a great tangy/spicy flavor and really big, firm meatballs. The table salsa was also very good, but could've used used some more pepper heat for my taste. Still scarfed it up, though!
I really wish we had a great Mexican restaurant like this near San Jose, but we just don't seem to.
We were there on a Sunday evening and they had live music as well. The artist was a gifted harpist, who could truly get all over his instrument. Yes, a harp! The guy was fantastic!!
Check this place out next time you are out in the Coachella Valley.

Rio Azul is one of the best Mexican restaurants in Palm Springs. The food is tastier and fresher than other Mexican restaurants in the city. The margaritas are very good too. The service is always excellent too. We will keep coming back!

Brought friends over because we needed our weekly fix of Rio Azul. As always greeted with simile faces and everyone was in a wonderful mood.
Our server was Daniela Dickerson who was lots of fun and just knew how to bring out the cocktails and food like a conductor of a symphony. Timing is everything!! By the way, the cocktails were strong!! Thank you Daniela!!
We all, as usual ate everything on our plates. Short of licking them, but the food was tasty, presented well, good portions and all in all another successful evening at the authentic Mexican Restaurant.

Very good restaurant with authentic Mexican food but even if you are not a fan of Mexican cuisine, they were very accommodating to prepare the food without the spices. I would highly recommend it and the service was great.

Went to brunch but was unable to get a table in the dining room for "Drag Brunch". So we sat in the bar. Thank God! The dining room was really loud with a bunch of women screaming. Was very hard to talk in the bar area. Food was very good but $14.99 for Huevos Rancheros is very high. I assume the pricing is to help supplement the cost of the show. I understand that, but if you are not there for the show, why being charged the same price. If you are looking for a VERY LOUD time, I recommend this. Will go back to Rio for dinner. Margaritas were excellent!

The food was really good but the service was kind of slow and there was a nail sticking out on the chair that the bride-to-be was sitting in, and she pricked her finger and bled a little. When we told the waitress she switched out the chairs and offered a band aid but we asked if she knew about the nail and she said yes. Why would you leave a chair out on the floor knowing it had a nail sticking out? Salsa was very hot and spicy at request.

My husband and I came here for our anniversary. I ordered a 2 item custom meal, and chose to have the chile relleno and a pork tamale. The chile relleno was delicious with its perfectly melted cheese and topped off with a yummy tangy green sauce. The pork tamale was amazing with its finely spiced pork and perfectly moist dough. My husband had the chimichanga which he said was great. We topped off our dinner with sopapillas that were drizzled in honey and had a side of icecream. If we're ever in Palm Springs, we'd definitely come back!

It's the best Mexican restaurant in Palm Springs. The food is authentic and there is a lot on the menu to choose from. Although this time I thought the carnitas were overcooked a little and dry. Usually they are very good. I will try them again next visit. As always, the service is very good. I will go back.

The male host with blonde/bleached hair was really rude when we checked in for our reservation. He said there were only tables in the bar area available. When I questioned that, they sat us in the dining area. For the 90 minutes we were there, there were at least 6 other tables including a booth that were never seated. Hmmmmmm. Maybe he had a bad day. Either way, he was really rude ...despite that uncomfortable encounter, this remains our favorite Mexican restaurant in Palm Springs. The food was exceptional as always and he wait staff is so nice.

I was in Palm Springs looking for a good Mexican restaurant, and found this restaurant on OpenTable. I checked reviews online and most were very good. I am very happy with my dinner at Rio Azul. The food was excellent, the service was very good, and it was a perfect backdrop for dinner with an old friend.

Rio Azul is our favorite Mexican Restaurant. They make incredible margaritas and their chips and salsa are wonderful. I tend to order the carnitas chimichanga every time I go because they are so good. My niece ordered the shrimp chimichanga and she raved about it. The only thing we were disappointed in was that my niece's husband ordered a dinner salad and instead of serving it first, the waiter brought it with the main dinner. All-in-all it was a great dinner and my niece said they are definitely going back during their stay in Palm Springs.

we had a wonderful experience, starting with our host who was friendly and efficient. Our server was on top of everything the entire evening. Our food was brought our fairly quickly and it was delicious. I would definitely recommend Rio to everyone.
Rio Azul had a great variety of options available for their participation in Restaurant Week. My friend and I chose options that sounded different from their usual menu selections. Everything was wonderfully delicious.
Our server, Daniela, was particularly friendly and always checked on us if we needed anything. Her support staff was also very friendly and timely with things as needed.
Overall, an extremely enjoyable evening.
