My friends and I went for lunch on Sunday. I made a reservation. We arrived 15 min early and they were able to seat us right away. It was pretty busy that day and we waited one hour for our food, but the manager was nice enough to comp our food due to such a long wait!
I really like this place and have been quite a few times. My only complaint - I was excited to try their coffee, which is from Dark Horse Roasters next door to them, but was disappointed because it tasted really old. I should have stuck with alcohol like I usually do!
Awesome spot for kids and for watching Sunday football.
Waypoint is an excellent gastropub that provides terrific food and a great beer list. But even better is that they have a little play area for kids that has bean bags, books, toys and movies. The play area is visible from about a third of the restaurant so parents should plan to sit in that part of the place. If you're not a kid person just sit away from that side, you'll be fine. Great setup and something other restaurants can learn from.
We went to this place for my sister's bachelorette party and the place did not disappoint. She loves gastro pubs so this was a very good choice. The place had a fun atmosphere and I liked the décor, modern Americana. There were a lot of babies when we went, and the noise level was pretty high up there, which made it really hard to get the attention of the waitresses. However the food was good and the beer even better and it kicked off a great party so no real complaints. It was pretty reasonably priced too.
well the food was very tasty I did not understand why they had all of their windows up when it was 100 degrees out and they had the AC cranked in the back of the restaurant. why would you not shut the windows and run the AC in the whole restaurant? In addition the planter of flowers that was on our table was a fly magnet, it was disgusting.
I'm glad I made an Opentable reservation for this place considering we went there on a busy Saturday night.
Love the beer & wine list. I consider it a treat when an eatery features so many different beers.
The food was very tasty. I just wish I had more of it. The portion size of the food left me feeling somewhat ripped off despite how delicious it all was. My girlfriend also thought the soup that came with her grilled cheese would have been better if it was thicker and less chunky.
I enjoyed my experience there. I would definitely come back. I just hope I end up with other orders of food actually worth the value paid. Besides that, this place is a good one.
I have been to the waypoint several items as the restaurant was on my top 10 go-to list. Unfortunately I have noticed to food seemingly going downhill over that past couple visits. Service and ambiance has always been great, that I still enjoy, but as a foodie the Waypoint is apparently cutting costs in the wrong places with lackluster food as the result l.
My friends and I LOVE this place. The food has always been outstanding. However, this time, not so much. Our main dishes were not cooked correctly. My husband had the flatiron steak, but it was really undercooked. I had the albacore, but it seemed fishy and didn't set well with me. The appetizers were perfectly cooked and tasted great! We may have come on an off night. Will definitely try it again.
My best friend and I are foodies, and we both fell in love with this place. He was visiting from DC, which has an amazing restaurant scene. However, he said this place, and his dish, was in the top 5 of the best food he has ever eaten. I couldn't agree with him more. We started with the grilled octopus! OMG! Out of this world!!! Our main dishes were outstanding. With the perfect combination of flavors and color. The flat iron steak was tender and juicy. You will not go wrong with this place.
When we first got there the waitstaff was all over us but as soon as we ordered drinks it felt like we were ignored. Great beer selection but the menu is just alright. I had the paparadelle on the waiter's recommendation and it was so salty I could only eat half. My friends' food was good they said but the salad was tiny! The food is too expensive for what it is. The dessert as good though, the smorelaska.
Two friends of mine and I visited Waypoint Public on a Thursday night. Quite frankly we were neither wowed by the food or the noise level. The place is so loud that we decided only to have a drink and entree and run out since it was so hard to hear each other and we were supposedly seated in the quiet area of the restaurant. In reality there is no quiet area, but it is a great place for kids since they have a big screen and a kid's area. The menu is all over the place and not cohesive - I would not say it is a place for foodies, but a local hangout. I wish them luck but so hope that they could consider doing something for the sound level ...
We went here with several families for a special brunch. The staff treated everyone, especially the kids, with great care and attention. The food was very good, but the desserts were the show stoppers! Everyone had a wonderful experience and all will return!
I wasn't sure what to expect on my first time here since the Linkery left and they do quite a nice job here! The food is solid as I hoped with Chef Amanda. The beer selection was quite nice for sure. However it is nice to do flights of small amounts of beer rather than only offer pints and 10oz servings. The kids play area was quite a cool feature since my wife and I have 2 under 2. Maybe we'll make it back here sometime. Casual with great food without being pretentious.
I was a big fan of the Linkery, but Waypoint Public has surpassed them in almost every aspect. There beer list is much more balanced toward a range of styles also some not so easy to find on tap beers (Jolly Pumpkin). The food was great. And probably our favorite part was the kid play area. Because of that area, we will definitely be back.
I want to love Waypoint Public. Great location, menu, beer & wine list and ambiance. Unfortunately, the terrible table service undoes all the good this place has to offer. After a terrible first experience we gave this place another chance but it was even worse. At 5:15 pm on a Sunday evening it took 45 minutes to get our food. 45! with 3 kids at the table. No apologies no nothing. When the food did arrive the halibut was dry and lackluster, the flat iron steak was unamazing. I'll be back only to sit at the bar - the service there was stellar. C'mon Waypoint - you can do better!
It took me a while to get around to eating at Waypoint Public and now I wish I'd gone sooner. Lunch was excellent from start to finish. Highlight of the meal was the Sangria. Easily the best glass in town. Time to start thinking about making a return trip for dinner.
This restaurant has steadily gained popularity in North Park for great beer selection and awesome indoor kid play area. The food selection has changed since it first opened and become more meaty, with only two entree options for vegetarians. Neither of these are vegan. There are no indicators on the menu to show ingredient flexibility. I am vegetarian with a dairy allergy and gluten sensitivity, which I told the waiter about when ordering. I ordered a vegetable entree and requested it NOT be made with butter. The dish came out soaked in butter! They made it again, and he apologized and did not charge me for it. However the lack of kitchen-control is concerning and I would NOT recommend it to vegans or those with food allergies.
Very open on nice days (i.e. most days). Nice play area for kids that they enjoy. Excellent selection of craft beers and good food overall. We had a party of 8 and one meal was steak was not satisfactory, but they took care of it promptly. Definitely going back here.
Our group of four had a good time and enjoyed the food and open air atmosphere. Unfortunately a server spilled an entire ginger beer in my wife's lap and made little to no effort to clean it up, didn't apologize, didn't replace the spilled drink, and kept the drink on the bill. At the end of the meal the server apologized for not being attentive but that hardly covered the spilled drink situation.
Generous wine pouring and nice wine list, sandwich came out burnt, but they did take it off the bill, very noisy - but there's a play area for kids, so i suppose if you are a family used to noisy life, this place is good because you can put the kids in the play area. There is a private room in back that is quiet but it requires booking. If only we could have dined there..i would have had a better impression of this popular neighborhood spot!
Excellent food, decor, ambiance, service, beer...highly recommend the oyster po boy tacos, favorite thing on the menu. Also, fresh papparedelle, the burger and grilled cheese were awesome. Beer selection is of course top noth as with most spots in SD these days but the food is a step up from most. Definitely check it out. There is a kid play area as well so it's suitable for the bar crowd and the family crowd.
The food was fantastic. Mussels were great. Deviled eggs were done really well, with a nice kick of spice. Great beer selection as well. Kids area is very cool and the movies are a nice touch. Biggest problem was the noise level. It's loud in general because of the high ceilings and a lot of guests, plus loud music. It was tough to hear each other talking and it was too loud for the kids.
Had an excellent night at Waypoint with friends in from out of town. The food was terrific. We started with a pretzel and then had a few octopus salads and the beet salad with pork belly, all of which were great. We then had the mussels and the halibut for our mains and everyone cleaned their plates. The S'morelaska dessert was a huge hit. Service was great and as always the killer beer list made for a good time.
Wonderful recent visit to Waypoint! We went for our husband's birthday with our 1 year old (which always is challenging!) Everyone was very accommodating - waitress was great! Food and drink did take a little longer than usual to get to our table but when the food arrived we forgot about the wait ;) We split the burger and the grilled cheese! Both were delicious!!!!! They have a kids area which was great for our little guy when he needed some place to stretch his legs and get some energy out. We are planning on going back soon and bringing friends!
We had a fundraiser event at Waypoint Public and they were great about it. They accommodated our large group and provided separate bills for the occasion, which was really helpful. Their food is awesome, roasted peppers, pretzel, kale salad, burger, all delicious. Definitely a great place to check out.
Enjoyed Waypoint Public very much. Hipster center of North Park, loud and lively, but nice open air atmosphere. Food is bar-themed, with a great beer list and also good cider and wine selections. Enjoyed: pretzel appetizer, ceviche (texture not super but flavors good), albacore entree with fresh "creamed" greens (very tasty and healthy, could have been larger portion, maybe an innovative starch on plate or more albacore), steak dish over pretzel dumpling, dill pickles. Look forward to trying more next time. Packed solid at 6 pm!
