The Ogden Chicago Ratings and Reviews
We made reservations here before a Blackhawks game. We opted to try the brunch buffet that included beverages! However, we couldn't try all the buffet had to offer because the trays were constantly empty. Even though I would wait for them to be replenished, there was a lag time, and I don't feel you should have to wait at the buffet to have it be refilled. My friends did not get to try everything the buffet had to offer. While conveniently located to the United Center, we will try a different place for a tasty brunch next time and skip out on the Ogden.
Burgers were good. Although, menu is rather sparse...not many choices. We ordered the Mac and Cheese balls...which were recommended by the wait staff...they were dry/just okay/little flavor. Speaking of wait staff, our waitress went on long trips or something before she would return to our table. Twice, we had to ask other waitresses to find her. Additionally, she looked to be just going through the motions. She had little interest in providing a smile, efficiency, other. On the whole, if it were not for the other staff who helped with delivery, service would have been 1 star. It is a very nice sports bar. But, I wouldn't go for a quiet date there...very loud. We were there for a pre-Bulls game dinner. Crowd varies from an age perspective. I wouldn't have thought it super-expensive. But, on the back-end, valet parking was $15 + Tip additional. (He parked across the street - we could see the car.) That's when the overall price of the experience migrated from $$$ to $$$+. I mean, it was only burgers and beers after all.
Took a buddy for dinner here (his first time) before the Hawks game, and if it wasn't busy enough just because it was prior to one of their home games, the NCAA tournament was also going on, so they had games on the monitors. Enjoyed the food and beer, and despite the high volume of people and activity, our server Laura was always checking on us to make sure we had everything we wanted.
We went here before a Bulls game with our 12 and 14 year old. The atmosphere is very cool! Our macaroni and cheese bites were cold in the center, pork minis weren't very warm either. The chicken salad was amazing! We walked to the Bulls game after our dinner.
I want to love the Ogden: it's close to home, put together look, etc. The service is just always sub-par. Example: when there are 3 options that a place is out of for the day, so you tell the server you will stick with water, taking the table water and putting it square in front of the person and saying serve yourself, is probably not the best approach. The food is average. For some reason, Guinness is $9! That's 60% more than the upscale bars in West Loop! It is in walking distance to the united center though.
They have a great Wednesday night special that starts after the start of any United Center events. 1/2 priced salads and flatbreads and $5 house wines (merlot and pinot grigio). Since they put in a new chef a couple months ago, the menu is smaller but the food is significantly better. The crispy chicken salad's my go-to and comes with this awesomely spicy ranch. The service has really turned around in the past couple months as well - it's like a totally new place! Nice work Ogden!
If you're going during the week when there's not a Hawk's or Bull's game, it's a little slow, but they have great food deals during the week! Wine Down Wednesday's are my favorite with $5 salads and flatbreads and $5 house wines. It's a steal! And their Crispy Chicken salad and Chopped Southwest Salad are delicious! I'd also recommend the pepperoni and ricotta flatbread and the truffle fries. The service isn't anything outstanding, but they get the job done (eventually) and with such good food at a great price, I can be flexible on the quality of the service.
2nd time in a row we had to send our messed up orders back to the kitchen ..fruit was substituted for fries and received fries, Sausage Flatbread was COLD all other meals were also cold. We received our fruit at the end of the meal. We had the same issue when we went in December.....Brittney was our server both times & was awful. After our food was sent out she waited 15 minutes to ask if everything was OK which it was not. Drinks were ordered and again they came after the meal. We were going to the Hawks Game & obviously she knew we were on a schedule. So it was like....she knew we had to leave & couldn't be bothered. She was lucky both times we did tip her the minimum 20%. We will NOT return!
I was disappointed I could not be seated until everyone in my party showed up.. I got there early so I could order appetizers and drinks before my guest from suburbs arrived.. they were running late, I knew they were in route but still could not be seated .. they would rather keep table empty as opposed to me ordering food and drinks until guested arrived
I ordered my food and 45 minutes later my food had not arrived yet, and I was not updated by the waiter. When I finally asked about my food he said he'd get a manager, who 10 minutes later still had not come over to talk to us. The waiter came back over and told us it would be 5 more minutes for our food. At that point we were cutting it too close to our event and needed to leave before our food even came out. No apologies from the waiter and we were told the manager was too busy to come talk to us (meanwhile the restaurant was almost empty by this point). I would not recommend going to this restaurant, especially if you have less than 1.5 hours to wait after you order your food. We also noticed that the table behind us sat down after we had ordered our food, and got their food before we asked the waiter about ours.
Great bar with great beer with great TV's everywhere but the food was awful. We were there before the Bulls game, nice and close to United Center. I had the southwest chicken salad that tasted like plain iceberg lettuce with about 4 or 5 small chunks of chicken. My son had the 3-4 cheese pizza that tasted like card board. And, my other son had a burger that he took three bites of. Not sure if this was because the place was packed but the items we ordered are pretty hard to mess up. Great atmosphere but the food was a real big time disappointment.
