Sol Grill Ratings and Reviews
We had a hard time finding this place. It looked closed when we drove by it. We stopped and my wife went in to look the place over and determined that it was not anywhere near what we expected. We expected that it would be an upscale place to celebrate our anniversary. Instead it was next to a bar that was blaring loud music. Sol Grill was open to the street so that you could clearly hear the blaring music from next door . We decided to cancel our reservations. My wife called Sol Grill to cancel and received a message machine with no option to speak to a live person, so she left a message with our cancellation.
The lobster ravioli was to die for, I highly recommend it! However, I can't recommend the bruschetta. It was too thick, too soft, a little burned, with not enough balsamic. Ambience was romantic, great music. Bathroom was sketchy and you literally weave through the tiny kitchen to get there. I'd go back for the ravioli.
Excellent! Sol Grill had the perfect balance of surf (fresh seafood) and turf (Chicken, Beef)
My Swordfish was cooked to perfection, (blackened yet very moist and tender). My wife had the Chicken Picatta which had a very tasty caper sauce with a hint of lemon. Both my daughters loved their meals as well! One had very tangy and tasty spareribs. The other chose a bowl of Ahi Chowder. She says it was the best ever!
Wine by the glass was reasonably priced as well.
Very pleasing interior; small and cozy with a 6 seat bar. Wait staff was very attentive and knowledgeable! Perfect evening! Thank you, Sol Grill!
Sol was as awesome as always. We adore the funky decor and the cozy atmosphere in contrast to the typically beachy restaurants nearby. It is definitely a little gem--as is its owner. We discovered Sol several years ago and since then haven't missed dining here at least once during each of our annual Newport beach vacations. We'll be so sad when they have to move after next year.
We stopped here for a bite to eat before heading to a concert and LOVED it! Dinner started with them bringing out a bread basket with an oil/balsamic vinegar dipping sauce. I know that it doesn't sound like much, but they make their own bread and we couldn't stop eating it! Next we ordered the filet mignon meatballs as an appetizer and loved them so much that we ended up buying two more orders to go (pretty big deal since we had to drive 4 hours back to Las Vegas with them). We ordered the lobster ravioli and the chicken artichoke dijon chicken as our main course and they were both delicious. We had a lovely time and would highly recommend this restaurant to others.
It was a cozy and vibrant place with different chimes, paintings, lamps all around. We enjoyed the red sangria. Our meals were tasty. My husband had the lobster ravioli and I had a seafood dish. They gave us a window table with a little bit of a view. The staff was warm and attentive.
This place is totally unimpressive from the outside. However, the food is quite good. We split three small plates and a salad. All were excellent. Service was very good as well. About 75% occupancy on a Thu at 7PM. Not a lot of seating. In this area of touristy/flashy restaurants, it would be easy to overlook. However, the smaller dining area actually made it quieter. And, if you want something more lively after eating, there's a trendy bar right next door.
Romantic and whimsical atmosphere, awesome and attentive service, and DELICIOUS food! The appetizer filet meatballs are AMAZING... definitely a must. The pitcher of sangria does not short you at all... probably 8 glasses worth. This is my favorite place to go on a date with my husband. :)
Originally had been olanning a dste here for our 6yr anniversary based on stellar reviews and it being close by. The day of the reservation i went to the ER for kidney stones, the woman on the phone was very understanding. I rescheduled for Valentine's day on Open Table. Its the first time we actualy go out to dine for this "holiday" so i was unaware that places have special/condemced menues and different pricing. There were no signed or disclosures that the menu or prices were different than their regular HappyHour (5-7pm) we had a 6:25p reservation. Either way we waited for this date night so it was ok to splurge. We had sangria with check in which was greaaaat! And he had meatballs and i had the cod soup, so dofferent but it works! Like a fish soup but with a tomato base! He then got ribs and i got Newport Linguini. I wish for the soup and pasta we were offered grated cheese, but i will let it pass. It ended up being regular price, which i am ok eith because they haid their full menu and the food was amazin and everything i hoped for and it was the cutest little olace ever! Romantic and cozy enough for valentines day and catching up on a work day!
Sol is consistently a quality dinning experience. I have been many times and highly recommend. Their Coipino is my go to and never disappoints. My special lady recently tried the chicken alfredo which was delicious and good size portion. I always get a pitcher of their hand crafted sangria as well. Book reservations, I have tried to walk in before and was not seated. Don't let that happen to you.
Came here for my birthday dinner with family. Restaurant is very small...so not good for groups, but excellent food and appetizers. One major turn-off was when our waitress, Adriana, (who we had offered a *taste* of our champagne we brought) poured herself an entire glass of champagne. Not cool. When a customer allows you to taste the wine or champagne they brought, you pour yourself a minimal amount. Not an entire glass. Otherwise, above average experience.
