My girlfriend and I currently live 1,153 miles apart. We arranged for a long weekend in Missoula over the New Year holiday, and made a reservation at Pearl Cafe at a colleague' suggestion.
It was a PERFECT romantic dinner. The service was fantastic and the food was delicious.
Keep in mind that this place is kinda pricey. A dinner for two with an appetizer and dessert (no wine or drinks) was $125 with tip, so this place is probably best suited to the affluent, business dinners, and romantic couples.
That being said, if I'm in the neighborhood and I need to celebrate a little something special, I'd go back here in a heartbeat.
I would suggest reservations, though. Mine was on a Friday night right when they opened at 5:00, and by the time we were brought our coats, the place was packed.
We enjoyed our New Year's Eve dinner at the Pearl. We were greeted immediately and seated (at our reservation time). The waiter was kind and helpful. We felt we could take our time and enjoy a leisurely meal . The food was beautifully presented, with our party voting the salmon as the best of fare. Serving portions were on the lean side. One of our friends joked that, if we celebrated at the Pearl next year, he would have to order two entrees. He has a moderate but not overly-voracious appetite, so I chose to include that comment here. Otherwise, the Pearl offered us the perfect atmosphere and cuisine to celebrate the end of a banner year and our highest hopes for the next.
My boyfriend and I went to Pearl Cafe for New Year's dinner and it was perfect for a special occasion. We wanted a place that was nicer than the usual burger and steakhouses we go to, but wouldn't break the bank. Being from out of town, I browsed online to find a suitable restaurant and made reservations for Pearl Cafe based on the wonderful reviews. It did not disappoint! We ordered escargot as an appetizer. It was very good. My boyfriend's steak was cooked a perfect medium rare and so delicious! He said it was the best steak he's had in years. I ordered the duck and it was also fantastic. The service was very professional, knowledgeable, and attentive. We never had an empty glass. They have a lengthy wine list and a nice variety of entrees, though not too many as to overwhelm. The lighting was quite dim, but suited us just fine as a couple. I could imagine my grandparents having trouble reading the menu in such low light, though. I also wouldn't recommend this restaurant for families with small children.
Overall, we were very pleased with our experience at the Pearl Cafe and I would recommend it to any couple for a nice dinner date!
The Pearl Cafe is consistently excellent. It offers a quiet, inviting place, free of windows and outside distractions, where you and your partner and/or friends can share dinner and converse. The menu offers sufficient, but not excessive, choices. Dinners are expertly prepared and presented without pretense. Over the years, my wife and I continue to regard The Pearl Cafe as our favorite Missoula restaurant.
Pearl Café ALWAYs delivers. We have never had a bad meal, or bad service, which seems to be the white whale of Missoula restaurants. Here I am watching Practical Magic with my wife and I remember our anniversary dinner the other night was so special. The steaks are better than any other restaurant in Missoula. They are incomparable. The wine list is a true treat, and basically lays out deliciousness the same way Mount Sentinel and Pattee Canyon mountains silhouette sensually in the morning light.
I digress. And I think about going back. It is, and will be, ALL GOOD.
This is always our restaurant of choice for a romantic and special occasion dinning experience. The waitress was not pleasant and service by her slow. This is not the usual case at the Pearl so I will just assume she was having a bad night. Do not hold this against the Pearl. All others were very pleasant.
Neighborhood gem on the quiet end of Front Street. Service is excellent...same wait staff has been there forever. Food is creative and nicely presented. Excellent wine list. Pricing screens the patrons, so no baseball cap wearing, mouth breathing gum chewers to be seen (this is a college town, after all).
We are consistently impressed by the delicious entrees, excellent service, splendid atmosphere, and overall wonderful experience. Thanks for another fantastic evening! We have gone to the Pearl Cafe countless times and have yet to be let down. The Pearl is an excellent choice for those seeking a guaranteed great night!
Nothing served comes out of a box, which lends to some of the best local food. The steak is served exactly the way it's ordered, arriving tender and fat free. The appatiser list didn't inspire me to order anything but deserts I could not pass up. My only complaint is the volume of wine served in the glass. That's a very minor thing in the overall experience. P.S. Try to get a table on the second floor for a more intimate dining.
We've been going to the Pearl for many years and have always enjoyed being there. The planets must have been in alignment during our recent visit because everything seemed especially outstanding. The server was exceptional, the food was presented well and tasted great and the wine was exceptional. Pearl was, as always, gracious and friendly. It was a perfect dinner.
My husband and I love dining at The Pearl. We always take out of town guest and recommend it as one of our top three favorite restaurants in Missoula. The food and service are consistently fantastic and the atmosphere is simply lovely. My favorite is to get one of the few outside table in the summer...it's my little Paris in Missoula!
We chose The Pearl for our anniversary celebration and it didn't disappoint. We dined upstairs with few other diners so it was nice and quiet. The service was efficient but felt a bit condescending. The food was excellent and presentation was lovely. All in all a very special evening.
My son and I had a great meals here - we ordered a little out of our norm by getting the rabbit and the trout but it was highly recommended. It was great but I think we were both in the steak mood. If you love your food with interesting sides and great sauces, this is the place. The scallop app was great and the service absolutely perfect! We will be back!
We found this little gem almost by accident, after thinking there was just no excellent non-pub restaraunts in Missoula. Ambiance was incredible. Wooden beams, wrought iron railings, felt like a Parisian bistro. Service was excellent. Food was outstanding. The smoked trout appetizer was so good. There were proteins that are not typical on the menu. My husband had rabbit that he loved. My daughter had a mushroom crepe that melted in her mouth. And I had halibut with a delicate olive tamponade and roasted Brussels sprouts. Yum! Portions were moderate, similar to European restaraunts. But nobody went hungry. The house wine was excellent. Deserts were also off the chart delicious. We will be back!
We have eaten at the Pearl many times over the years, and it is one of our favorites - atmosphere. This last visit, October 18th, the food quality seemed average and service was sporadic. For $40, the filet is not special, the rice is bland, and the broccoli is uninspiring. My wife and I both noticed that given how small the portions, and we get the fact the Pearl is focusing on French cuisine, etc., these dishes are not very satisfying. Ending on a high note, desert was amazing. We are hoping the Pearl will re-examine some of these dishes and really try and improve the quality of the food and consistency in service. Again, my steak, for example, was so mediocre I needed to get some steak sauce to make it interesting.
From the mushroom/escargots appetizer to the plum sorbet, everything was perfect. The green salad was delicately and perfectly dressed. Wine pairings as recommended by the server were excellent. Service was attentive and discreet, never intrusive. There are enough servers and bussers to make everything flow smoothly and unobtrusively. All in all, a relaxing and indulgent dining experience.
The French Onion soup was the best. The broth alone was heavenly. Loved the sourdough bread. A perfect salad. Filet mignon with the port wine sauce was delicious. Everything was divine. And the red blend wine was just right. Everyone was gracious and helpful.
We selected the Pearl for our 47th Anniversary. Although the staff was not told in advance of our anniversary, we were seated at a corner table above the entrance atrium, which was much quieter and intimate than seating downstairs, almost like they knew why we were there. The presentation of our food, and guidance given by our waitress, was elegant and helpful, at the same time. The service was prompt, but not intrusive. One course flowed into the next. We were done in 1.5 hours, although we tried to drag it out as much as possible. We went for a walk by the river (1/2 block away) on a beautiful late summer evening. It was simply a PERFECT night. We highly recommend the Pearl for any special occasion.
