Olón - Tropicana Atlantic City Ratings and Reviews
My beau and I wanted a nice place to go for my birthday, so we chose Olon. We had this amazing server name Domingo. He was probably the nicest guy you'll ever meet. Domingo had so much knowledge of the menu and made some excellent recommendations. The atmosphere was beautiful and had a Miami Spanish zest to it. We started out with guacamole, ceviche and oysters. As our entrees we had a red snapper and stuffed flounder. We paired our seafood selection with a nice bottle of Pinot Grigio. Overall, the experience was lovely and coming back is a must to try out more of their items on the menu!
Spicy tequila cocktail was amazing! Guacamole while tasty was too thick and chunky to go with the thin "chips" they serve it with. Shrimp appetizer enough for two to share was average description sounded better than it was. Entrees were fine but after the first few bites got tiresome and boring (stuffed flounder).
A great find in Atlantic City. The Tapas-style menu ha a wide variety of offerings and all we sampled were tasty. Be careful not to order too much. Just kidding. An extra appetizer won't break the bank. The small plates are surprisingly generous. Service is friendly and speedy and the ocean view can't be beat. The Tropicana and Garces have a winner.
Garces has succeeded once more in a casino hotel. With a perfect view of both the Atlantic City boardwalk and ocean, Olan provides tapia style food in an exceptionally creative manner. Fairly priced with ambiance to spare, this is more than a one-visit spot
Dined at Olon several times and have never been disappointed with the food. Service, sorry to say, appears to be hit or miss. We've had more good experience the not, but this is the second time there was a service break down. First time slow bar service; this time forgot to bring our side dishes and then offered to bring them at the end of our meal when we had finished our main dishes. Unfortunate but will still come back. Food is excellent.
Second weekend in a row. Once again had an amazing dinner. Bibb lettuce, skirt steak, Yucca Fries and ended with the parfait. Great great dinner. If you are in AC it is a MUST. If weather allows you should sit outside and enjoy the beautiful view and right amount of music.... Can't wait to make it a third time!!!
What a wonderful place! We had a table with a beautiful view, our waitress Liz was very attentive, knowledgeable and personable. She made great recommendations and the food was delicious! We almost ordered more, but wanted to save room for dessert. All were fabulous, especially the coconut parfait! The manager, Adam came by to make sure we were enjoying ourselves and snapped a picture of us. We loved our visit so much, we booked it again for tomorrow night so we could introduce this place to more friends!
They bring all the food all at once. They rush you out, and, before you know it, you've spent $200 and you're out in half an hour. If you want to enjoy your dinner, then pretend that you're in a Chinese restaurant and just order one course at a time. Hold onto your menu and when you're done with over course then go ahead and order your next course. Otherwise your divert will be over before you know it. We ordered guacamole which they brought out right away that was ok. Then they brought our first course while we were still eating the guacamole, that wasn't so bad. But then Tey brought our second course while we were still eating and our table was full of plates. Our waitress was standing with us. She said that she didn't order it to be fired up and didn't know why they brought it. Ok. She walked away and wouldn't you know literally one minute later someone else came to bring yet another dish. Come one. Now if the waitress didn't fire it up then why was everything coming out all at once. Then there was no happy medium. I called the waitress and said look what's happening and there's obviously. A problem here and we need to slow things down. Ok. That then led us to wait 45 minutes for our next course. Come on guys lets get it together here. Especially for these prices. Trust me, hang onto your menus and order next course only when you are done. Otherwise literally you will be out in half an hour.
Olón is top notch when it comes to service. My party was asked for drink orders within 1 minute of being seated. The lamb was seasoned and cooked to perfection. The empanadas were the best I've ever had. I've been to every fine restaurant in Atlantic City, and Olón is #1.
New restaurant at Tropicana, had to check it out for my birthday. Had the scallops for a appetizer and I have to say they were excellent. My friend also raved about them. For the entree I went with the N.Y. strip steak, and my friend went with the crab cakes. We both tried each others entree and agreed that they were both delicious. I eat out on a regular basis, and I will be back to Olon to try a different entree. Would recommend.
Great food but needs work "front of house". Second time we've been there. Meals not paced properly. Same thing at Okatshe. We ordered quite a few small plates and an entree. They brought almost all of them at once. Even brought lamb chops before appetizers. Asked them to take the entree back. Really ruined our expetience. Then, we had to wait an hour to get out entree. Took forever to get cocktails. We ordered a drink well before the fireworks and received it (mostly melted) afterwards. Maybe better to try this place off season.
Also the staff at front desk seems to ignore people waiting to check in and be greeted. We won't go back for a long while. Garces other restaurants don't run line this one and have much more professional service.
Ate on the outside deck since it was a nice night. Beautiful ocean view - can still get this view from inside due to all the windows. Had an excellent chili infused tequila drink. Shared 3 small plates - mussels, braised chicken empanada and pork belly with sweet potato skewers. Oh and can't forget their bread with the guava jelly with a little heat at the end. Liz was an excellent server - attentive but not intrusive. We go here every time we are at the Trop. Going to do their brunch next time.
We had a booth for 4 which was comfortable with a view of the ocean which was great.
Our main waiter, Jilbert. was helpful, friendly add a delight, which is unusual , we find
that most waiters have an attitude that make dining out unpleasant. We really enjoyed
the food and atmosphere.
Service was great! The food is what any Jose Garces' fan could expect: delicious tapas, interesting combination, perfect pairings. It was two of us and we had one appetizer, one ceviche, one dinner plate (stake... it was delicious), and two sides... everything is meant to be share, and we believe it was the perfect amount of food. The drinks were very good as well. The scallops from the appetizer menu, and the cauliflower from the sides menu, were just spectacular!
Keep in mind this is a restaurant that serves tapas (small plates) so don't complain about the price vs size of the food. The price here is for QUALITY and experience.
Food was mediocre, portions small for the price. Not sure if we had a new server, but we sat at our table for a good 15 mins without being addressed. We finally ask to see our server. To make amends we were given 1 dessert for the table. Also not enough bathrooms to share between Olon and the Japanese restaurant
