About Permanently Closed - Nico
This restaurant is permanently closed. Nico presents a menu format similar to the French and European style of dining "carte blanche" (without a menu or blank menu). This menu style invites guests to put themselves in the hands of the kitchen and enjoy a dining experience.
We offer a $70 5-course tasting menu that changes nightly. Pairings to complement the nightly changing menu are priced at $55 for the 5-course menu. "Bites" and à la carte selections are offered at our small 5-6 seat bar.
In addition to the pairings, Nico offers a full wine list, nightly wines by the glass (half or full), low proof cocktails, a handful of beers, and non-alcoholic sodas. Corkage is $40.

Completely different experience from our first time there-service was bad and good mediocre. For an expensive restaurant that demands a credit card for reservation, sorely disappointed. Would be glad to speak to their manager about our lackluster $500 plus dinner.
This is our favorite restaurant in the city right now. The chef is very creative and takes local ingredients and combines them in unexpected ways to make something delicious. The tables are set a nice amount of space apart so one can have a very intimate and private dinner.
I can definitely see why this restaurant earned a Michelin star. I thought the food was divine and that this kitchen was truly creative, inventive, imaginative, and concientious. The service and the presentation were perfect but most importantly I experienced the pleasure of a novel and delicious tasting experience. I'm always on the lookout for new taste sensations.
Fantastic presentation of amazing creative food pairing. Courses never repeat from visit to visit. Each course is a new taste sensation. Courses paired beautifully with unique wine selections. Attentive service. Sorry to see Nico leave Sacramento Street , but we look forward to Jackson Square.
I think the servers were great, the ambiance was nice, but neither my husband nor I liked the food all that much. There were no "Wow" moments when i would first taste the food, and the different dishes just didn't work for us. I was expecting a little more French influence to come through. That's not to say that it wouldn't be great for someone else with different tastes.
Thoughtful, refined comforting food. Great warm personal service. The blackberry and udder cream sorbet was insanely good. Nothing disappointed and there were some really great highs. Outstanding wine parings and the ability to get a 2oz pour for two for 10$ more was way better than only ordering one 3.5 oz pour on the pairings.
The food and wine pairing was simply amazing. I was a bit disappointed when the name was misspelled on the card and there was an awkward moment when the bill arrived (I gave the staff my card to hold onto prior) but overall it was a great experience and the staff did a fantastic job.
Oh my gosh! We had friends in from out of town and this was so bad we were completely humiliated! The server was polite but only borderline competent, obviously inexperienced and not caring a whole lot. But the worst was the food. Of the seven courses, we could only actually finish two of them (pre-dessert, whatever that is and a really good avocado salad that was a replacement for those who don't like eggplant). The steamed prawn was not so steamed and quite tasteless. The pork was
Uncooked and covered with a sea lettuce leaf for good reason. Very very disappointed!!
Perfect dinner spot. We had the menu fixe of five courses and chef recommended wine pairing. This is what we got: Creative combinations of food, incentive cuisine and lovely wine pairings. Everything (!) tasted really good. Perfect portions and perfect order. Overall a brilliant evening.
Another delicious & unique menu crafted the same day, this time with avocado, corn, wood sorrel, striped bass, blackberries, and venison. The flavors are always bright yet perfectly balanced, the presentation immaculate, and the staff welcoming (our server, Nina, was great).
5 course tasting menu was ok, but a bit disappointing. They do emphasize fresh ingredients, but with minimal seasonings, the food lacked flavor overall. 3 of the dishes were fish/seafood, 1 was a bland pork dish, and then a good dessert dish.
Service and ambience were lovely, but the lack of diversity and overall blandness was disappointing, especially given the $70 price tag. We also opted for the wine pairing, again not so great: a rose, 3 similar whites, and an ok red.
I can see the potential, but the food itself just didn't deliver.
This was my first tasting menu experience and I honestly enjoyed every moment of it. The staff are wonderful and provided excellent service for every plate and all around the restaurant. Nico is unique because the menu changes very frequently and you never know what is coming next. That's the coolest thing about their tasting menu. I definitely recommend and will come again.
Dinner was exquisite, second only to Fai's Le Manoir de Saint Quentin a Troo.
Each course was a wonderful delight, and the desserts provided combinations of taste I had not imagined. The wine pairings were perfect and fun. Emily's service was a perfect accompaniment, and the quiet ambience was perfect for a special dinner for four. We can't wait to return.
Surrounded by Paris themed store fronts, Nico really captures the heart of French dining. The menu with perfect wine pairings was totally unique and the service rivals the best in the City. The most tender and plentiful abalone and lamb dishes were standouts as were the 2 dessert offerings. Really proud to have such a fine place in San Francisco. Outstanding in every aspect.
The food was really good. The service was exceptional. I think it was one of my favorite dinners of the year. The chef uses very fresh and seasonal ingredients. The dishes had just the right amount of artistry for me. Portion size were perfect. You won't leave hungry.
Excellent meal at Nico but somewhat deceived by the way they manage their "carte blanche menu". I informed them that I was intolerant to fishes and seafood at arrival and they told me that there was no problem and that they could certainly accomodate. They did so by simply removing the proteins from the sea from each course without replacing it by another protein or compensating by offering more vegetables and carbs. In the end, they did charge me the same price as my spouse that ate a full course. This was deceiving fro such a high-end restaurant.
Rest of service and food was otherwise exceptional.
Probably the best dinner I've had in SF in the last 10 years! It was that good. The food was simply extraordinary. The restaurant is beautiful. The service was great -- low key and very helpful. I eat at top restaurants in SF often. How I've missed this gem I don't know-- but it will now be a regular stop for us and a top recommendation for our friends and associates.
