MAX's Wine Dive Houston - Fairview St. Ratings and Reviews
This has to be one of the coolest places to hang out in Houston. The food is amazing specifically their steak night on Wednesdays. The staff is very friendly and super cool. Their creative drink menu is awesome. One of the best lemon drop martini's in the city. There made to order southern fried chicken is phenomenal a must if you go here.
Our server was Jamie he started off as a very nice guy then things took a turn we were not checked on but once then whenever we needed something the busser was more than helpful it took us forever to get our bill and once we received our bill we were hit with an alcohol tax which I thought we should have been for warned about I was dining with my mother and sister so we asked for
2 separate checks ...I tip him on my bill out of courtesy but my sister didn't he followed her out of the restaurant and yelled to her "Thank you for not tipping me" VERY UNPROFESSIONAL since when did you have to tip for bad service
I invited a free for lunch, she's xa newbee to Maxs. Everything that could go wrong did.
1. The 2-3 managers left 1 waiter for the lunch crowd. Over 39 people.
2. We arrived long before the party of 15, but my chicken took over 30 minutes. We were told they had new cooks. That's your problem, not mine because I still have to pay the bill.
3. We had to send another entree back, not prepared correctly.
I was disappointed and ashamed
Jayme was such an amazing server and Melvin was an awesome host. I am gf and soy free and Jaime made it his mission to check with the kitchen and call the chef to be sure the dish was completely soy free as well as gluten free. Jaime gave us suggestions for bars to visit throughout our visit here and Melvin came over to add to our list as well. Overall, food was incredible and service was fantastic!
Took forever to get the food (salad and chicken sliders), terrible service that never refilled drinks or asked about food once we finally received, and the specialty drinks are tiny with little alcohol (terrible value).
What has happened to Max's? It will be a long time before we spend our money again inside Max's four walls.
Because my wife is Gluten-free, we drive across town to get their Famous gluten free fried chicken. Maybe add 1 extra piece and it's enough to share.
I thinks outs really good but because my wife can't get fried chicken hardly anywhere, she think it's a gift from heaven...
First time at the Fairview location, but actually like the sitting and parking better here than at Washington.... Both have the same great food...
We give it 2 thumbs up and 1 big toe🤗
Food was good and it was a great place for Sunday brunch. The restaurant was busy on Mother's Day but we did not feel rushed. Server was nice but not particularly attentive. After we finished our meal, we had to ask for our check. We gave the server our credit card and had to wait another 30 minutes to get our card and receipt back to sign. Not thrilled with the wait after the meal and very uncomfortable about having our cc out of sight for that long.
It was busy but food arrived quickly. We ordered, ate, and left within an hour but we could easily see how people stayed all day. Kids brunch options aren't huge on choice but they are amazing on flavor. Toddler approved French toast and fruit. Would definitely come back for another Easter brunch!
The food there is great, and that you can get gluten-free Fried Chicken is a huge Plus in my book. The chicken is always really crispy and really moist... Delicious. I don't know too many other things on the menu except for the cobb salad with the fried chicken and that's pretty good too. It's got a really reasonable happy hour, the music is usually din, classic rock (loud! ), and the staff there are really friendly ... though they're pretty slow, so count on that. Overall great dining experience.
Our second visit to MWD. We came back because the the food is so good. Unfortunately, we had a waitress who, because of her failure to provide service, kinda ruined the experience this time. She forgot some of the things that we had ordered; she TOTALLY IGNORED US after she turned in order, and she sat at the back of the bar chatting with a co- worker until our order was ready to be delivered to the table. In the future, when they ask "where would you like to sit" - I will say "at any table that is not in Sara's section.
I have been to both locations, and this location was disappointing. The food took way too long to come out, and most of it was only lukewarm when it arrived. The temperature in the restaurant was extremely cold and we were the only ones in the place. We asked multiple times to have the temperature raised, but it never was. The food itself tasted blander than at the other location.
This place is incredible! We had brunch and the service was impeccable! Thank you Jacob! Best fried chicken I've ever had. A few standout dishes were the Honey Butter Benedict, the biscuits and gravy and the Southern Fried Chicken platter. The executive chef, Shay, even brought out our entrees and made sure we had everything we needed! We loved the mimosa options and decided to pick a bottle and get a variety of juices to make our own. Shout out to Kim for making sure we had an unforgettable brunch at Max's!!
Birthday lunch with my girlfriend who lives in the neighborhood. We walked over and the place was pretty sedate, with only a couple of tables in use. Both of us got dishes that involved fried chicken and we were beyond happy with them, accompanied by a couple glasses of wine apiece in a charming easy place.
We frequent MWD on Washington St. often and when we couldn't get a reservation, decided on this location. It was a huge disappointment. The menu was different and the friendly service that we receive at the other location was absent here. The fried chicken was barely lukewarm and the chicken fried steak was tough and lacked flavor. The server was not concerned about our dissatisfaction and was not very attentive as he never came back to refill our drinks. This has only been my second visit to this location and I definitely won't be going back here.
I have to say I am sooooo disappointed with ALL of the Max's chain. I wanted to like this particular location b/c of the patio, but we had problem after problem.
A fly flew into my drink and the waiter said they have an "at risk" notice for patio diners. So if you sit outside...you better keep your hand over your wine Or just be willing to drink the protein that flys into your drink. The waiter was nice enough to fix the problem for free without us asking b/c he had failed to mention the policy ahead of time which was redeeming. Great job.
However, when our food arrived I was served the wrong thing (salad) so they took it back and about 10min later (my business lunch colleague almost done with his food) brought the salad I ordered and had just transferred the grilled shrimp from the other salad. Since it had been over 10 min at this point the shrimp had died in the window (so to speak) and were cold. AND not to mention it was an extra $9.00 for the shrimp. This is were it gets good.....There were only THREE shrimp on the plate!!!
Soooooo you mean I paid $3.00 Per shrimp = $9.00 and you still served them to me cold. WOW.
I can forgive a lot of things. But $3.00 per shrimp is crazy especially when served cold and the "at risk" policy is just funny. Great way to turn people away.
