Mastro's Steakhouse - Palm Desert Ratings and Reviews
Steaks always very good: served sizzling hot! Shrimp cocktail very good too. Try the pretzel bread for sure. Best martini -- too big to finish unless some else can drive you home. With all the mediocre steakhouses in Palm Springs area -- Mastros stands out. I give it high marks.
We frequent Mastro's for their amazing food. This specific visit was for our anniversary. We enjoyed the Bone-in Ribeye cooked perfectly medium-rare and the Chilean Sea bass cooked medium, lobster mashed potatoes, mushrooms and the signature butter cake.
It was a Saturday evening so it was busy and there was live music in the bar. Talking was a bit difficult but once the food gets there you won't care.
The service is impeccable. You don't wait for drink refills and they are attentive and share the responsibility of caring for patrons, not just one waiter waits on you.
We'll keep going as long as we can. It's our favorite restaurant.
Reservation was booked well in advance. Girls at check in are screening customers to see who should sit way in some hidden back room or in the bar area. Obviously if you’re not some young hot person you don’t get to sit in the bar area. I monitored the open tables in the bar area and they of course remained open. Oh well, sorry Mastro’s PS, I’ve spent a lot of money there but will need to go to another location that does not discriminate.
We were celebrating my birthday and were very disappointed. First, it was freezing cold in the dining room. We ordered a wedge salad. It came chopped up with the very watery dressing. Next, we ordered a Porterhouse Steak medium plus to share. It came chopped in pieces and looked raw. Plus our twice baked potato was only a half of a potato with a big hunk of rubbery melted cheese.
Overall it was a nightmare and it was my birthday.
Was love the Mastro's in Phoenix and have been going there for years. We thought the Palm Desert location would be the same.
I've eaten at Mastros many times, this past Friday night the food was amazing as always but the service was awful. My glass of wine took over 25 minutes to get, our espressos came 15 minutes before our desserts and our two desserts came out 15 minutes apart. Waitress and waiter were no where to be found...dissapointed
Loved everything about this Mastro's except the one thing they should be excellent at... steak! We ordered the Chef's Cut Ribeye chop. It was supposed to be 33 oz for $79! The steak came out rare in the middle (we ordered it medium rare plus) and about a third of it was fat... what little was left did not seem to amount to 33 oz. I would suggest that you have them cook the whole steak and bring it all out to your table, as opposed to slicing it up in the kitchen. Really disappointed by the quality of the meat, although they have an excellent rub they dust it with.
They were very accommodating when we wanted to sit at another table. The server was very knowledgeable about the menu, and was gracious enough to bring out more of their AMAZING pretzel roll.
The seafood tower was to die for. The filet and lobster combo was enough for two people to share. I can't say enough about their twice bake potato.
2nd visit to the Desert, but first visit to Mastro's after reading the reviews. The atmosphere was surreal-great decor, fabulous wine displays, and the food was reasonably priced for the delectable menu. My wife had the special prix fixe menu which include crab cake appetizer, cream corn, filet migon, and the famous butter cake with ice cream and whipped cream. I had the rack of lamb-2 large racks of 4 chips each-cooked to medium rare exactly.
we found the drinks and appetizers to be outstanding. However, the steaks were burned (not just charred) and one was overcooked as well. The "twice baked potato" was nothing more than a giant overcooked potato skin with cheese. The famous warm butter cake, was not warm and was disappointing.
Poor service, we had to pay $35 corkage for each bottle of wine and then poor most of it ourselves. The martini came and and specs in it so had to be remade, then they tried to charge us for 2 martinis. I ordered my steak medium rare and it came rare. They tell you this junk about what medium rare means, but all chefs know that medium rare is 135 degrees. I was probably generous giving them 3 starts.
We went to Mastro's while on vacation in Palm Springs. It was my first time at a Mastro's. We got to the restaurant early to get drinks at the bar before dinner. I had the best Mojito I have ever had! We were very pleased with the quality of food...our food was served piping hot....which is a rarity these days. Usually food is room temp by the time it gets to the table. The service at the bar and table was great. Mastro's delivers on great steaks and great service.
Mastros never disappoints. The service is always so professional and the staff is very knowledgeable about the food and I always take their recommendations. The steak is delicious, the martinis are great and I love the ambience and the music on the weekends. Great place for a date or to entertain out of town guests.
Our server and the front of the house staff were over the top excellent! Nice live music in the bar area that we could also hear and enjoy from the side dining room. They were having a summer set menu promotion and that was a very good value. The pork chop is a hidden secret - best we have ever had! I wasn't very impressed with the side dishes, especially the creamed corn. I was expecting something like Flemmings creamed corn and this wasn't even close; lacked flavor.
