John Palmer's Bistro 44 - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
Our reservation was exactly as requested, the food was excellent, and the service was great. We enjoyed the lobster nachos and a shrimp cocktail as appetizers. I had the scallops with apples and black quinoa while my companion enjoyed the pork chops. The scallops were perfectly prepared, firm but not overdone, and very tasty. The pork chops were also very good, well seasoned and moist. The service was quite good, knowledgeable and attentive, but never intrusive. We both enjoyed the evening and will definitely return.
This is the first time we have returned to John Palmer Bistro 44 since the new owners took over last fall. We had been hearing good things from our friends and I am very happy we decided to give it a try. The service was friendly. Our waitress had good knowledge of the menu items and was able to answer our questions. The service timing was really good giving just enough time between courses. The food was really good with well matched sides. The cocktails and draft beer were a little pricey but went well with the food. I don't think i will wait a year before returning. We had a great meal in a very nice atmosphere.
This is our first visit since the new owners have made their mark and we were very impressed. The overall mood is more welcoming and the menu offerings diverse. We really enjoyed our dinners and recommend the Waldorf salads, Beef Short Ribs, and the Salmom. We shared a Peach-Blueberry Crisp for dessert to finish a wonderful meal. As we were leaving the owner's wife introduced herself, thanked us for coming, and pretty much ensured that we will return. Well done.
My husband and I dined here with another couple. The server was friendly and did a great job. My husband ordered the special fish, I ordered the scallops, and our friends ordered the pork chop and ravioli. We all loved our dinners - delicious! The drinks were also extra good. Would definitely recommend John Palmer's for a wonderful evening out.
We celebrated our anniversary at John Palmer's Bistro 44 and had a most enjoyable dinner and evening. It was our first time at this wonderful restaurant. It's a great looking place and the service was really A+. Nothing about the evening was rushed and we throughly enjoyed our drinks followed by the most delicious lobster nachos served in a most unique presentation. We knew we were in for more visual treats along with treats for the palate. One of the nights specials was a watermelon salad presented in a scooped our half of a baby watermelon. I had the wonderful tender scallops with a rice cake.and vegetable garnish. My husband had the veal chop special . It had a wonderful slightly spice rub flavor and was cooked to perfection. The menu itself is so well thought out and has wonderful fish , meat , pasta and side dishes. We will be back again soon to try more great food.
Our only disappointment was that upon making the reservation, I mentioned the anniversary celebration as I know most restaurants honor the couple in some way. This was a small let down. Certainly not enough to keep us from another wonderful meal.
Quality of fiood and menu is four star excellent. Everything was perfect and for those that aren't familiar with this restaurant - you leave knowing you could not have had a better meal anywhere. Keep up the great work Service was exceptional and the rear patio is so well done. And entertainment by Kristine Jackson was cherry and whipped cream on the sundae. Fabulous night.
We received an Open Table gift certificate and chose to try John Palmer's. We had the butternut squash ravioli appetizer, which was good, but small. My husband ordered filet that was excellent. His rosemary sea salt frites came out very soggy, and we sent them back. The next batch was golden and wonderfully crispy. I had the lamb chops, which were very tender. My sautéed spinach was very garlicky and yummy. The dessert was definitely the best part. I had a chocolate terrine, described to me as a cross between mousse and fudge. It was decadent and sinful. The ice cream accompanying it was icy and fast melting. My husband has bananas foster crème brulee, which was also excellent. Our waiter was good, but not the best. He didn't seem to have the time to chat with us about the dishes and was always rushing away. I would probably try John Palmer's again, but I would definitely get steak next time.
All of us John DeJoy fans (the previous owner and chef) were concerned about the sale and new ownership. We have been there twice since the changeover and are extremely pleased. Several new dishes we had were excellent, especially the ahi tuna. Our server (Alicia?) was great, very efficient. I enjoy the ambiance of this restaurant in that the tables are not squeezed together. Nice wine list also.
The special for the evening was running low, so our waitress reserved a special for me since we still waiting on friends. Then when checking again was told the last order was being made for someone else, she took the extra effort to make sure that didn't happen since we had reserved it first. So ended up with the order and the scallops were delicious. The food and atmosphere of John Palmer's is great. I wouldn't have known they were under new management. Keep up the great work and we will be return customers.
Great expierience! Made my reservation through open table and it was a perfect process. The restaraunt called to confirm out reservation. I had the filet with some asparagus and their horseradish sauce. It was delicious! Also tried the the hummus.. Fantastic! Out server was very nice and attentive to us. Would definitely go back for a special occasion wih my husband or a nice night out with the girls!
My husband and I had dinner at this little gem for the first time and were totally wowed. The service was impeccable...but not in your face. To me, one of the things that make fine dining fine...is when the server isn't constantly interrupting the conversation. Our server must have had ESP because she was not only gracious but she seemed to know when we needed more bread, butter, or wine. She waited until we had time to cut into our filet (which was perfectly prepared by the way) before asking how things were tasting. The presentation was fabulous. The ambiance was perfect...it's cold in Concord, OH in January and a roaring fireplace was just the ticket! I would definitely dine at this restaurant again and would recommend it to anyone!
Despite having reservations, we were seated in the back corner of the back room. Another guest actually had to move every time the server came to our table. The hostess apologized for seating us there but still seated us there. No management ever checked on us. If you go, don't go on a weekend. Food was very good but overall a very disappointing night. The restaurant seems to have a loyal following of regulars, but they don't care about others and there is no management.
Too bad, the food is good and it is a nice place.
We received a gift card and went to bistro 44 this past Friday. Absolutely enjoyed the food, table, and service. Portions were large, but not overwhelming. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone on the rural east side. It's definitely not up to the overall experience set by downtown restaurants, but I don't think it has to be. We loved our dinner and I'm sure you will too.
I have recommended this restaurant many times, but it has been almost a year since we had eaten there. It appeared busier than ever, which I took as a good sign. However, after eating our meals, we agreed it has gone downhill with respect to the food. First, I did not get what I ordered. I chose not to complain, as what the server brought was my second choice anyway. However, both our meals were cold. I had the salmon, and the lobster orzo was a joke -- a tiny portion with three miniscule, tasteless pieces of lobster. As I said, everything was cold, and the fish was not done. My husband had the same thing, and his was also cold, with a miniscule portion of side, and his fish was so undone he couldn't eat it. I would imagine if the food had sat long enough to get cold, there was time to properly cook it. Just disappointing, as I always thought of this restaurant as a rare gem in the sea of eastside chains.
This was our first time at John Palmer's Bistro 44 and could not have enjoyed it more. The meal was delicious and well paced. The food and drinks were absolutely delicious. The service was impeccable and it was great to have the owner stop by our table to see if our experience was without complaint. Highly recommend this restaurant!
It may be in a strip next to a market, but don't let that fool you. Inside the atmosphere is warm and cozy; the service is prompt and attentive, and the food delicious. John Palmer's Bistro 44 exceeded our expectations all the way around. They even had a great guitarist playing and singing in front of the fireplace, and he was pleasant, but in no way too loud--it was perfect.
Met the new owners, Sean, head chef and his wife who greeted us and told us about their new endeavor. We sat at the kitchen bar as we had in the past. Saw lots of great looking food being delivered. My wife and I both ordered the filet mignon and was cooked to perfection. Congratulations on your new restaurant. Of course we will miss John and Michelle dearly, but can only hope they are now enjoying their new found retirement. The new owners have not missed a beat. Thank you for a wonderful experience!
First visit for my boyfriend and myself. We loved it! The food was exactly as described melt in your mouth delicious!!! I ordered a pasta creation and it was brought to the table pipin hot which i loved. We of course had to taste each others meals because they were so good; "honey here you gotta try this".Can't wait to go back.. Keep up the good work John Palmer !
We came to celebrate a birthday. The food was excellent . We ordered two appetizers among 4 people and dinner entrees. I would really recommend the salmon. Our waiter knew the menu very well, was polite, and very helpful. It was a very positive experience. The only downside might be that the restaurant is on the dark side. A candle would have been good on our table or some other source of light. My husband has trouble seeing in darker rooms and i had to read the menu to him. We would come again for a special occasion.
