Indulge Bistro and Wine Bar - Golden Ratings and Reviews
Wow, is this place ever ovvvvvverrated! I should've stuck with the majority of my dining companions' choices and opted for a burger. They all seemed pleased with their meals.
I on the other hand decided to go for what I seem to recall was a signature dish, the chicken gnocchi. Now I have no qualms when it comes to spending good $ on good food, but this place could not deliver on the promise that $24 price tag held.
Good gnocchi should be light little pillows, nicely browned and a bit crispy on the outside. These were big doughy maggots, kind of browned in places. The chicken was one tiny, flabbyish drumstick, and all of this mess was served in a bowl fit for a kid's meal. At least the sauce was good.
The icing on the cake for me though was our waitresses' unprompted and random repeated statement that, "we aren't a chain". It was quite comical because no one at the table was making statements or asking questions that would in any way shape or form necessitate her to say that. This place clearly thinks they are something special, and unfortunately, they believe their own hype.
We had been waiting to go to Indulge for a special occasion and use the gift card that my office staff had given us for Christmas, so decided to make it our Valentine's Day night out. It was a Saturday evening and the place was packed. FYI, if you're looking for a quiet place to have a conversation, Indulge is not it - close table proximity makes it necessary to shout your conversation over the table to either side of you. Our server was very good and attentive, making suggestions for a wine (they should add a Moscato). The wines we selected along with the Ahi Tartar Guacamole was outstanding! My wife ordered the gnocchi with chicken on the servers recommendation, I went with lasagna. Dinner was served, and then things went a little wonky. Her meal was fantastic. The lasagna had a bolognese on it that was room temp at best with cold spots. Our server suggested I eat around it and then had the kitchen make another for me. It was just a disappointment to a meal we had been looking forward to. We tipped nicely but any return will only be for wine and munchies. It's a good place for that, but perhaps not dinner.
I typically go here at least once every few months. This place does not disappoint. I actually tried something different this time around at the recommendation of my date. The charcuterie tray is out of this world!! I didn't think I could get full on a meat/cheese plate (based on prior experience at other restaurants). Boy, was I wrong! This is a meal in and of itself. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the wonderful selection of wines. Also, the burgers are great and so is the tuna guacamole, and the pizzas. Okay, you honestly can't go wrong here.
As always our experience there was great! The food is always awesome! For Valentines Day they had a menu for the occasion, so we missed a bit the regular menu, but the food we got was so delicious that we quickly forgot about it. We love going there for a date night dinner or special occasions!
The meal was great and our server, Monika, was outstanding. She explained everything on the menu that people had questions about and she had an wonderful personality to match her efficiency! My out of town guests were totally impressed with the food and the restaurant. Indulge is my go to place for consistently great food and service.
Interesting place. The menu is a little limited, but the food was good.
Two things that stuck out for me:
- Flaky salt in a regular salt shaker? Who does this and why does it seem to be a trend among hip and groovy restaurants? THIS DOES NOT WORK!!! Managers should be fired over this, in my opinion. Stupidity at it's finest....
- And this kind of floored me.
I asked if they had any flavored tea? No.
Do you have hot flavored tea? Yes.
May I have some green tea and a cup of ice? Sure.
So first he brings a tall thin glass of ice water with a tea bag in it. I was enjoying my appetizer and did not notice him set it down in front of me, and walk away. When I looked up, I almost spit my food out from laughing! It seemed obvious that this guy does not understand how to make tea!
When he returned to see how I am doing, I ask if I could have some HOT water, a tea bag and a tall glass of ice, and a cup.
This time he returns with some HOT water, a tea bag and one of those tall very thin glass glasses of ice. You know those real thin glass glasses, almost a wine glass thin kind of glass, and no cup (Coffee style).
So after brewing my tea, I am Leary of pouring this very HOT tea into this kind of glass!
Especially since it had been sitting there for ten minutes or so with ICE in it!
I wondered if the waiter had ever had a science class during his younger years. Another waitress came by and I asked her for a coffee cup. She got it immediately when she saw why I had asked. The expression on her face was priceless...
Nice selection of appetizers (great crab cakes), salads, and burgers--only five or six entrees and a special. The signature salad is excellent but huge--glad we split it. Good selection of wines and many available by the glass. TV over the bar was visible from our booth so we could keep track of the College Championship Football Game.
The food at Indulge is fantastic! We had their mushroom soup and bruschetta as starters, and the mushroom soup was the best we have ever had.
The wait staff was friendly, helpful, and very prompt.
On top of all that, the price was very reasonable!
I would definitely recommend Indulge for anyone looking for delicious food at reasonable prices.
New Years Eve. $60 per person controlled menu. Never felt so ripped off in my life. Ordered rack of lamb and was given two ribs. One of the two was about 1/3 fat. The dessert was awful. Used to like this place for their steak but I'm never going back and I live in Golden. I can understand why the place was half empty on New Years Eve. Word must be getting out.
We had a friend in from out of town and always enjoyed ourselves at Indulge so we figured it would be a treat! Too bad it didn't live up to our expectations. Our friend ordered a burger. Simple enough. But she said no mushrooms. And she wanted a salad and fries. Only the salad came. She picked a few mushrooms off and we said no, send it back and we did.
About 5 minutes later they brought her a burger. It had mushrooms. All they did was to transfer the burger to a clean plate. It still had mushrooms... How insulting.
Most places would comp the burger after such a thorough botch job but no. Did offer a dessert. Class all the way !
We ordered starters only, meatballs, tuna/guacamole, two flat breads and calamari. The calamari was crisp, not oily but the pieces were chunks. The sauces for the meatballs (mustard, marinara, stroganoff) were good but the meatballs themselves were cooked to golf ball status. As for the flat breads, they were essentially pizza crust and could be thinner. The tuna/guacamole was very good. As for the wine selection--fairly good range-although not extensive, but wine list included wines, labels but not vintage? strange. The service was off with our original waiter appearing very disheveled, replaced by another who stated that the initial server was taken ill and sent home. However, as we paid our bill the original server was still working but only in another section of the restaurant. Overall the service was adequate.
We came into Indulge with three children 8-12 yrs and two adults. There were only a couple of tables in the restaurant and a few outside so it was not busy at 7pm on aMonday night. Needless to say service was slow from beginning to end. The kids all had burgers so greasy that they all were uncomfortable. The chicken on the gnocchi dish was visibly black from charring yet raw inside. The only good thing was the salad my friend ordered. A big red flag was the fact that it is supposed to be a wine bar and there should have been full displays of wine on the walls. The racks were 3/4 empty which to appearances is a failing or closing business . My friend who is local will never be back, nor will I.
Best of Golden. This place is fun and lively. Action packed bar scene, lots of fun people, fun food, nice waitress. I took my son and his wife there for birthday dinner and they loved it. A real lively feeling and they thought the food choices were excellent. Wines a on the expensive side but food is reasonable.
Here is an email that I sent to the restaurant after my recent visit. The restaurant did not respond.
Let me begin by saying that overall my wife and I had a very fine meal at Indulge last night. The food was good, and our waitress was fantastic. However, we did experience a couple of items that I want to share.
First, upon arriving for a 6:15 reservation we gave our name to the hostess and she clearly was not having a good night or does not enjoy her job; there was nothing pleasant about her demeanor. She wasn’t rude, but also not friendly. Throughout the dinner, my wife commented about the look on the hostesses face each time she walked past seating patrons. Her expression never changed, never smiled, and always looked as though she wanted to be somewhere else, anywhere else. Maybe she was simply having a bad night.
The food was good, but my wife finished only about half the entree, which is normal for her. Our waitress was great and had it wrapped in foil. When we left the restaurant we made it just the end of the block when we realized that we left the foil-wrapped entree. We returned five minutes later to be told that it had been tossed. It’s not a big deal, but it seems logical that a restaurant would wait a little longer before throwing out someone’s leftovers; I am sure we are not the first people to accidentally walk out the door and forget something.
Again, as I stated from the start that overall we had a pleasant meal, and will probably return again, but figured if something isn’t said then nothing improves.
Went to Indulge twice within a week. Everything was great with the exception of burgers. The first night I ordered a burger and the second visit my daughter did. Mine was undercooked and hers was way overcooked. Everything else was great and the atmosphere is fantastic.
