Food Dance Ratings and Reviews
Sunday was the first day of their new menu and brunch and Sunday dinner. Food Dance is always fun, but Sunday afternoon after a mimosa or two is very relaxing and fun. I would go more often if they had more gluten free options. So many restaurants have gluten free buns for burgers, toast for eggs, and/or gluten free pasta. Until then, We will spend most of our dining out meals elsewhere. Otherwise the food is always fun, good and healthy.
WE always come to this restaurant when we come to events at Western. It was different this time. We went there on Friday and were there close to 9 and hostess sat us near the bar and out in open. I asked if there was a booth available and she said no even though we noticed several open, but sat there anyway. We went the next night and hostess sat us at same exact table ( table for 3 and 1 seat removed for storage of walker w/c,but not ours)again asked about a booth and told not available. The waitress came to table and she did direct us to a booth (several open). The waitress and waiters are excellent, best service. The food is outstanding. I noticed very limited gluten free options this time. It would be nice to have a gluten free bun for a hamburger.
Service was very slow, we got our appetizer before we got a beer. We are a younger couple, the waitress seemed to think that since we were younger, we wouldn’t tip well. Which is the exact opposite, we over tip since we are younger. We were never checked on after our appetizer came out. Someone else brought our food, and a manager had to bring boxes. I understand being busy, I was a bartender for 6 years, but I also know balance. It wasn’t overly busy, and the other tables around us were paid more attention too, again I picked up on this being because we are young. Overall, I will probably be back for breakfast with my family. But I will not come back for dinner anytime soon.
Food Dance is one of my favorite places in West Michigan. I met up with a friend to unwind from the week on Friday night. We really enjoyed the fondue as a robust starter and then split the Pad Thai as a main which was perfect. Everything was delicious.
Food Dance has a great selection of beer and wine; I was bummed that they ran out of my Dark Horse Raspberry ale but it gave me a chance to try something else.
Service was attentive and once we clarified that we weren't in a big hurry our waitress slowed her pace a bit to meet ours so we didn't feel rushed.
Our table was very small but the staff was on top of clearing and taking excess menus so, it was fine.
First the host/manager was very pleasant and did her best to cover the poor table service and poor food prep, but we didn't appreciate being seated in a family type room which was loud. Very disappointing as this was our first visit to this restaurant, where do I start, the server was disinterested and clearly knew the people at a table near us as they were the only ones to be properly served. This is one of those establishments where the bartenders believe making people wait for drinks somehow makes them taste better - they are really enthralled with themselves and their apparent skills to make a cocktail, we weren't impressed as everyone knows a Moscow Mule is a lime based drink not lemon. Lastly, the food, in all my years of eating out, I have never had a bad balsamic vinaigrette dressing, but this establishment set a new low, the dressing was exceedingly bitter and had to be scooped out of the serving container, what is with that? Our main course was so sour tasting (unfortunately we both ordered the same entrée) the kitchen must have thought making the Pad Thai as sour tasting as 10 year old sauerkraut would appeal to patrons, well it didn't work for us. I should have known better when I sent the entrée back once for not following our order instructions, but wanted to give them a chance to fix but it was a swing and a miss, a patron at a table next to us sent hers back and ordered a sandwich, my suggestion would be to drop this dish since they clearly are unable to prepare it for consumption. We eat out frequently and this poor meal quality and service will stay with us and we will not be heading back in the future.
Everything was fabulous! Our table was ready when we arrived. The servers helped each other to make sure everyone was taken care of. The servers answered all of our questions and gave us the time we needed. Food was great! We really enjoyed our meal! I sent a separate message this morning with additional information. Thank you, everything was wonderful!
Dinner was awesome as it always has been, definitely worth the $$ for the meal and beverages. Walked over to Bell's Brewery for the Verve Pipe concert and returned afterwards for a night cap and dessert. Highly recommend this gem!! I've spent more at Red Lobster and Applebee's for a meal, drinks, and service that wasn't half as good as Food Dance!
Fantastic meal! Highly recommend starting with cheese - they have some really nice choices The menu was very seasonal and included sweet corn, heirloom tomatoes, watermelon and peaches. Everything was an A+ except the crab cakes. They were ok but there was too much filler. Be sure to check out the attached market/store. Great downtown location within walking distance to breweries. They even have their own parking lot.
This has been one of our favorite restaurants but service was exceptionally slow. So slow that I had a second cocktail which was made too sweet and interrupted my enjoyment of dinner once it arrived. Service was so slow that One of our guests did not get the chance to finish/ start on his main entree because he needed to head to work. Very disappointing as we were too exhausted by then to even consider dessert- one of the treats that I always enjoy at this restaurant
A Friday night date for me and my husband. We had an intentionally slow paced visit with cocktails and what were essentially small plates/starters. Waitress was knowledgeable and genuinely friendly and honored our lazy evening.
We ordered and enjoyed the pimento cheese and crackers, wine, a traditional cocktail then bowls of the creamy tomato soup with bread. It was a rainy summer night, so the comfort food was just right.
Food Dance is one of my favorite restaurants in Kalamazoo. Not a cheap date, but the quality & flavors are worth it.
I was impressed w both the freshness of the food and the ambiance but wish the service could have been a little more on. Fondue was eeally fresh really presented well. Salmon was tasty and also presented well w pickle that was quite tasty. Returned for brunch two d later and enjoyed that but the potatoes were a tad firm for me but not undercooked at all. I will definitely recommend and return
Everyone enjoyed their food. We had burgers, salad, pad thai, and a tofu meal at our table. The olive appetizer and espresso my heart. All were excellent but the best part was the dessert. My son asked for a brownie added to the espresso my heart and it made the dessert that much better. My only complaint is that the hamburgers are $17 dollars which is pricey for the Kalamazoo area.
This was our second visit to Food Dance to meet our son who lives in the area for dinner. Again we weren't disappointed. Although the appetizer special was quite small ( two stuffed squash blossoms on arugula with smear of local honey), the halibut soup my husband had was delicious and my pad Thai entree a great gluten free option. Service was excellent and ambience allowed us to have a nice visit with our son. Our favorite Kalamazoo dinner place. We'll be back!
I was in K-zoo for business, but had been hoping for an opportunity to return to Food Dance while I was there. Luckily, a colleague and I had an open evening, so I made us a reservation right from their website, using Open Table. It was so easy! Since we were staying at the Radisson, it was within easy walking distance. We got there a little early, but got seated right away, had a delicious meal, and had a nice walk back to the hotel with enough time left in the evening to relax. I loved that I didn't have to spend extra time looking for Food Dance's phone number to make the reservation, especially since Open Table showed me a variety of openings so that I could make my choices quickly and easily. Usually, when my husband and I travel together, he makes the dining reservations with Open Table. This was my first time using it (at his suggestion), but it certainly won't be my last!! Thanks, Open Table and Food Dance, for a great evening!
