BALEEN - Naples Ratings and Reviews
We ate in the 2nd floor Club dining room for dinner (Baleen downstairs is being renovated until Oct 1st).
I was meeting with a dear friend I hadn't seen in almost 7 years to catch up. It was the perfect place! Wonderful ambience, gorgeous view with sunset, attentive service by Adriano (from Roma), and the exceptional food....delicious and beautifully presented. Cocktails and wine were perfect. What can I say....it's my favorite restaurant for any occassion which is special to you.
Unfortunately we picked a time to go when the place was under construction so we were moved to the 2nd floor instead of enjoying outdoor dining. The food was very good and the service was excellent so we will be back when construction is over to get the experience we originally intended.
Very hard to give them a good rating right now. I have been to this restaurant before and loved it. Currently they are under construction and everything is disappointing and horrendous. What really upset me was we went for my husband's birthday for brunch expecting the beautiful views and no one told us when we made the reservation that there would be no view. They sat us next to this god awful contraption blowing air. The restaurant was crowded with unruly children and cranky service. Oh...and they charge $5 for valet parking. Pass on this place until November. You won't be happy.
After making a reservation, we received a call that the restaurant was closed for renovations so upon their urging, we were offered to try the Club next door. Good food and service however they had an AC malfunction at 3p and never bothered to let us know. We arrived at 6:45 and it was oppressive. All of the staff apologized but there was nothing they could do. We assumed it would get cooler as time went on but the temperature was never comfortable throughout the night. Bad call on behalf of management not to inform us ahead of time!
My favorite special restaurant in Naples. Especially spectacular to take guests who just flew in to visit you, and immediately give them the feel of Naples........gorgeous beach, sunset and view, as well as terrific, varied, creative menu selections, with professional, friendly, personal service.
What can I say, it's my "go to" restaurant for years........never been disappointed.
Our experience was wonderful. I have but one complaint about the evening. That would be, we were not informed that the restaurant was undergoing renovations and was closed. Aside from the brilliant menu, the atmosphere of BALEEN, in my opinion, "makes" the restaurant. While visiting Naples for a blogger event, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to dine there. Unfortunately, upon arrival my party was informed that the restaurant was currently under renovation; something that was not disclosed to me when making the reservation. We were escorted to the club member dining, which lacks the ambiance we were looking for. Our server was wonderful, the staff were prompt and very attentive. The food was wonderful. I hope in the future I will have the opportunity to dine in the correct ambiance that is so desired.
It was a disappointing meal. We brought our own wine for a special occasion and the decanter they used was chipped. When they brought the main meal (risotto) it was cold. They gladly took it back and fixed it. They even offered another appetizer in the meantime which we appreciated -- but it was disappointing to.
Anyway, the service was fantastic as they tried to fix their food mistakes. Unfortunately, there were several of those.
Here's the deal! We travel 20 minutes to come here. Our primary goal is to have an ocean front meal with friends. No where was it stated the restaurant was under construction negating our ability to eat near the beach. Had we known, were would have gone elsewhere. I don't think they alerted Open Table and we rely on that information.
Before being seated, the hostess did warn us we would hear construction noise....so we were prepared for that and still enjoyed the Gulf view. A salad and 1 glass of everyday wine cost $40 which I thought was steep. I also thought it was not right to require valet parking and then change $5 + tip...restaurant should validate.
Our waiter was terrific and suggested splitting several items so we could taste them. The lobster risotto was tremendous. My complaint was with the entree. We split the grouper which is supposed to be their signature dish. Well mine was so fishy tasting I could not eat it. Luckily we order several things before the entree, so I did not go away hungry. I was so disappointed in that grouper!!! At $46 it should be fresh!
We enjoyed ourselves so thoroughly - aswealways do. Dwayne was our waiter and it was lovely being greeted by my name upon his intro to our table. Made me feel like we were really being well looked after. The oysters on Natl Oyster Day were limited to one selection- and that was slightly disapointing - but the ambiance and our engaging & very accomodating waiter dwayne made up for that in spades!
Also a slught disappointment was that the restaurant is currently closed on the main ground level where we wanted to dine in the terrace- bc of construction -it is on the 2nd floor and NO outside seating due to it being agnst code. Would still highly recommend-the room w lovely wooden coffered ceilings and a live pianist playing the piano was wonderful. The oysters- well fleets were delicious and our salads were the freshest of fresh! Loved the atmosphere- was packed w diners and a lively night:) cant wait to go back!
I recently dined in Baleen with out of town guests. When making my reservations I was not told of the construction being done to the original restaurant & was redirected to the upstairs "club" location. Incredible loud noise level from other guest drowned out the live piano, meal du jour was tasteless snapper, hard and cold to touch, holes in table clothes and overall lack of interest reflected a willingness on the part of ownership to take advantage of prior repeat customers. I'm a long term Naples native that has always thought of Baleen as a special place for my family and as a destination for high quality business meals. In my business as a representative of a local private bank, Baleen was my "go too", not anymore.
The sunset on the beach was the only notable feature of this restaurant.
Food was average and extremely over priced. We live in Miami and love fine dining experiences, and we're expecting much better food and ambiance for the price. The restaurant toted their interior style...which was generic And not notable (exception being that it was situated on the beach with perfect sunset views).
We went to Mediterrano in downtown Naples the very next evening and had spectacular, incredible food and service (not lingering and overbearing like Baleen was). Our server at Baleen actually looked at his tip before we even finished drinking our wine (classy considering our bill was about $250 for two) do yourself a favor, have a drink for sunset, and head Downtown to Mediterrano for dinner!
Baleen is one of our go-to restaurants for special occasions, in this instance, my husband's bday. Sat on the veranda for an early dinner; very quiet & peaceful. Stayed for the sunset, which was beautiful. We both ordered the current summer 3 course prix fixe option, picking different selections, spending more money on a celebratory expensive bottle of wine. The meals were uniformly delicious, just the right amount if you have a normal appetite, and Milos, our waitperson (we have met him before) paced the courses perfectly. He is very professional and attentive. The resort is undergoing some renovations at the moment, but they didn't detract from the overall pleasure of the occasion.
It is our favorite place in Naples; however, due to it being off-season, there was a lot of construction going on in the outdoor dining area, hindering our view. We still had a really good time, but i had reservations for a better table months in advance, and it was not honored.
5 Sterne Hotel?Gewiss nicht!
Wir bleiben zufriedene Ritz Carlton Gäste eine Meile südlich.
