800 Wilfs Restaurant & Bar Ratings and Reviews
Food was prepared properly, service was good, live Jazz in the background. But , for what we had the price was over the top. I have had same type meals in other resturants in Portland and other parts of the country to include Califorina and Washington state that were just a good if not better at half the price. Would I go there again if in Portland...probably not.
Really enjoyed our visit to Wilfs. The jazz evening was recommended by a local. He was spot on! Great jazz. Wait staff were attentive and friendly. We ate simply and enjoyed the food and drinks. We will certainly recommend to family and friends visiting Portland.
I have been to Wilf's many times and I have had nothing but wonderful service and food to die for but this particular time was not so. It was the service this time that fell well below the norm. The food was WONDERFUL but the experience was dismal. I contacted the owner to let her know about this out of the ordinary experience and she responded quickly with a response that made me feel that this wouldn't happen to anyone else. I would still send anyone that asked to Wilf's because I really LOVE this establishment HANDS DOWN!!!!
First time guests visiting Portland. John greeted us in a friendly and professional manner.
He truly is an excellent manager in all sense of the word. We we fortunate to have our stake cooked right in front of our table. One word, Amazing!...
Our waiter James was also very attentive and friendly. My wife opted for salmon with French onion soup. Both the best.
Overall award wining service and food. We could tell everything was cooked with fresh ingredients from scratch.
The ambience is very upscale, elegant classy with music that soothes you.
We highly recommend you stop by Wiffs. You won't regret it.
We went on the very last day of Portland dining month. We got the special three course meal.
Both of our entrees were problematic. The beef ribs were very chewy. The vegetarian chicken was not tasty. Other parts of the meal were fine - salad, sides, dessert. The live jazz was great.
great place for jazz. I would not have cared that the prices were high except that the food was terrible! I will go back for the jazz, but I'll be sure to eat some place else prior to going and then I'll just sit at the bar and have cocktails while I listen to the live jazz.
So food and wait staff here are great. My ONLY problem was the shock I received when seated in one of the many red wingback chairs.....the seat turned concave as though there was no cushion and I felt for a brief moment I was going to fall through the frame but didn't. I don't like making a scene so managed to hide my surprise and thank the host for seating me. The chair remained slightly uncomfortable throughout dinner. I was curious to know if it was just my chair so checked the red wingback at the next empty table which also had no cushioning. My guess is these are just OLD chairs and I'm not going back until they are replaced. Too bad....food is delish.
We were at the restaurant for Portland Dining Month. We picked the restaurant because the food was from local, organic, and sustainable farming.
I love the wine list! French onion soup was amazing! Salad was refreshing. The vegan adobo was slightly salty but very flavorful!
Our server was nice, friendly, and knowledgeable. I love his description of the French Pinot that we got. Overall, it was a great experience.
Sadly not good. Food was disappointing, how can you make a bland Reuben? Soft sweet un-sauerkrat sauerkraut, couldn't taste Swiss cheese or Russian dressing. The three fruit crisp was over cooked so thoroughly the fruits were all dark brown and indistinguishable one from the other by color or taste. Though we were the only people in the dining room we could not sit by the window because " it was set for dinner". It was extremely quiet, but again we were the only people there. Sad.
Perfect if you like live jazz. Intimate setting, really good musicians. Even if you're not a jazz fan but like to be in a place where live music is playing Wilf's is a good choice on the nights when they have music. Also a good dining choice if you're traveling by train, better than you'd expect in a railroad station. It feels kind of retro, including the train part and overhearing people talking about where they're coming in from or are heading off to.
Wilf's is an old-line establishment restaurant that takes itself too seriously. The ambience is pleasant but borders on the stuffy. The greeter was not especially friendly or welcoming. The waiter was experienced, but rushed, and therefore not very accessible. The food was acceptable but the menu was not inventive--rather mundane--like something you might have seen 30 years ago. The live jazz provided a pleasant background. All this is probably the reason we have seen no serious reviews of the restaurant apart from its live jazz offerings.
This was our first time at Wilf's and we were celebrating my husband's birthday. John, the manager/maitre d', was exceptional and we enjoyed his conversation while he prepared our tableside dishes. I would've given Wilf's five stars except for the following reasons. We never received a bread basket, even though we had bread plates and knives. My husband's specialty prime rib was very cold and he sent it back to be warmed. The waiter informed us that the au jus should have warmed it enough but it didn't. I noticed the table next to our also sent their prime rib back to be heated. At the end of the meal, our waiter, Daniel, took our coat check claim and then forgot about us while we waited at the door, watching him serve other tables. He seemed distracted during our service, and it was not busy because we were there early. And even though we had a Groupon we tipped on the full amount. All that aside, I would recommend Wilf's for a special occasion. It was a bit spendy for us to consider coming back on a regular basis but all our courses were delicious and fresh and it was a fun evening.
My husband took me here for my birthday, it was a nice place. I enjoyed myself. The service was great, John was very inviting, the server we had (can't remember his name) was okay. Overall I had a great time and enjoyed my meal and quiet conversation. We had an early dinner and left just before we were able to hear the live band, we will be back just for the experience of the band.
We had a lovely, delayed anniversary dinner here. I ordered the Steak Diane, which was out of this world. My husband ordered the pork loin and it was equally as good. The steak is prepared tableside, which is very dramatic. The service was outstanding, the maitre d was delightful, and the music very enjoyable...the singer has a great voice (and I know a good voice when I hear one). We ended the meal with Cafe Diablo for 2 (also prepared tableside with a very dramatic technique) which my husband enjoyed, but I found it a little rich for my taste. We love this place and we'll be back soon.
