Pappas Bros. Steakhouse - Galleria Ratings and Reviews
I was told by a good friend that this was a great place to take clients and the food was great. He did not lead me wrong. Great place great atmosphere great food. Well worth the money. The service was unexpectedly a little slow. The service was good when they were there but hard to find our waiter for drinks.
If I ever want a special night out for dinner I go to Pappas Brothers steakhouse. Food is always perfect and the service is absolutely the best. The wine list is world class and sommeliers are always right there to guide you. It’s not cheap— and it shouldn’t be for the experience.
Pappas has the best steak in Houston (in my opinion). You pay a pretty penny but it’s incredible. We dined here for our anniversary and our waiter was top notch. Very friendly and attentive. The food was perfect. Some downfalls - we had a reservation but waited over 30 minutes for our table. When our table was ready, we were seated in the “wine room” but really it just felt like a sad overflow room and there was a giant TV on glaring at us and ruining the ambiance. I sometimes feel penalized for making online reservations rather than calling? The hostess who seated us was awful. She clearly hates her job and was borderline rude. Our waiter made up for these pitfalls but I’d expect more from Pappas. When you’re paying $50 for a steak, you should get top notch service from start to finish. And a room with a 72 inch TV playing a basketball game shouldn’t be a thing. TVs should be reserved for the bar area only. I’d get it if it were a championship game but just a random (non Houston) NBA game - not cool.
As always, Pappas Steak House delivers the best steak in town! We had a 16 oz. prime ribeye and an 8 oz. filet. Both were cooked to perfection. You cannot eat at Pappas without eating the AuGratin potatoes. Creamy, tasty and one order is certainly enough for two. Matthew was our server and, as all of our experiences there, he was the perfect representative of the restaurant. We have had the pleasure of being served by August the last couple of years and we had become quite spoiled by his attentiveness but Matthew picked up where August left off. Nothing but a rave review!
I have gone to this location and the location downtown many times however I highly advise that you avoid New Years here. The waiting time was close to 1 1/2 hours. Also due to the increased volume of patrons, the kitchen rushed out our food. My wife's lobster was undercooked and my steak as well so after an already long wait, we had to wait again while our food was prepared properly. Service was also very rushed and I felt that was done so they could seat other guests as soon as possible. Any other day I would absolutely recommend without reservation, but this last visit makes me consider looking for another steakhouse.
This is one of our favorites but totally off the mark this NYE. We’ve been coming here NYE for a couple years and think we will try somewhere else next year. Late seating us (1.5 hours late) and didn’t explain the menu well. Way too much food. Never brought dessert. Wait staff wasn’t very responsive and was pre-occupied. Didn’t focus on us when he was waiting on us. Unfortunate experience.
I'll start off by saying that we are regulars at Pappas for a reason. The steaks are simply fantastic and the food overall is very good. This is not haute cuisine but a good basic high end steak house. The steaks are seasoned and prepared simply but to perfection. This particular review is of our experience on New Year's Eve which was a prix fixe menue for about $109pp not including alcohol.
1. Seating - a little on the sloppy side. With 8:15 reservations for 4, I would have been expected to be seated close to the reservation time. I showed up with my husband early for a cocktail and they tried to seat us at 7:30 before our fellow diners arrived even though I notified them when we checked in that we were still waiting for guests AND our reservations were at 8:15. They simply didn't listen. I get it. It was a busy night however, we weren't seated until after 9pm (our guests arrived well before our reservation time at 7:35pm).
2. Drinks - our favorite bartender, Eduardo, was "en pointe" as usual.
4. The sommelier helped us find an affordable and delicious french wine. We have always had great luck with the sommelier's at Pappas.
5. The waitstaff did a great job in getting us our drinks, food, etc in an extremely timely if not over-efficient fashion. I'm not complaining about the service at all - it's just when you get your crab cakes and shrimp remoulade and cocktail and salads so quickly - and the crab cakes are not hot, you know they've been pre-prepared (not to order) and sitting around waiting to be served.
6. Main dishes - the gentlemen had steaks. The other lady at the table got sea bass and they all seemed to love their meals. I got the salmon which I usually love. It was prepared as I like it however still came out a little on the cool side.
Overall, our experience was fine but not as special as Pappas usually is. I'd probably not go back for a prix fixe busy night again. I'll stick to our regular nights there.
My husband and I have been going to Pappas Steakhouse for years. Their service is by far the greatest we have ever received and we have been to other very nice restaurants. From the impeccable service to their menu; we give Pappas 10 times the highest rating offered. We love our server, valet attendant and the manager.
We really enjoyed our New Years Eve dinner. Our waiter was engaging and really proud of the restaurant and chain. We are from Tampa, FL and very proud of Berns. I would say that the steak was comparable. The wine list was very good, though not as large as Berns. The restaurant really shined with the appetizers, soup and dessert. The chef showed his creativity and the dessert was sublime. This is the Houston version of Berns, which is high praise in my book.
Great way to kick off New Year in 2018! Our server Eric always does an impeccable job and makes every dining experience special. Food was exceptional as usual; great wine, filet mignon, lobster tail, crab cakes, salad, au gratin potatoes, mushrooms, and desserts of course. Never disappointed and always special. Thank you Pappas, hope to see you soon!
We love Pappas for special occasions! It’s a little too expensive to go there very often in a year, but we do enjoy it when we go! My husband loves the filet mignon—says it’s the best anywhere—and it’s always perfectly cooked! We also love the shrimp cocktail and the crab cakes. We are usually seated in the back section where it is quieter, which we like. We celebrated New Year’s Eve Eve there this year to avoid the crowds, and it was a perfect way to spend several hours. The service was impeccable, as usual. Our server recommended the perfect wine for the evening. Just a lovely experience once again!
Pappas is the best place to celebrate special occasions. The wait staff make it a priority to highlight your celebration. My waitress, Caroline, was attentive and made sure my promotion dinner was special. The steaks are juicy and the Crab Mac is devine. I highly recommend dining at Pappas for special occasions or if you are craving delicious steak, fine wine, and gooey pecan pie.
