About Miyama Japanese Steak House and Sushi Bar
In Japan, the word Miyama means 'beautiful mountain'. Here in Colorado, it translates into a memorable dining experience in a striking aura of Japanese tradition and decor. The ambience is stepped in history-everywhere you look, you will see rare Japanese antiques and artifacts, including 200 year-old Samurai armor and priceless Japanese 'Tansu' chests. The traditional element of Miyama's decor and cuisine is further enhanced by servers wearing brilliantly colored Kimonos. Whether, you enjoy world class sushi in the Sushi Bar and Lounge; or, prefer dining on premium steak and seafood while being entertained by the Teppan Chef at one of the sixteen 'habachi'tables, Miyama guarantees a memorable dining experience for the entire family, where children are welcomed with a special kids menu and private dining rooms are available for special occasions. **Please note that you are booking for Teppan seats. Please contact the restaurant directly for Sushi reservations**

Miyama Japanese Steak House and Sushi Bar Ratings and Reviews
As a family we were having a special celebration for our daughter. We wanted hibachi but the other major place in town was booked up. I remembered coming to Miyama last year for a business dinner. I recalled having a good experience and we were able to make a reservation at our desired time. I saw some reviews stating issues with reservations but we had no trouble at all - 5:30 on a Saturday night. We were seated with another family that we got along with and found that we had some things in common.
Our orders were taken promptly and everything was accurate. Our chef was excellent! Great presentation including some tricks we hadn't seen before, humorous and quick on the grill. All of the staff we interacted with was helpful and pleasant.
Yes it is pricey but it's a great special occasion place that will create memories. We will be back the next time we want hibachi and will not even bother with the other joint in town.
Food is consistent, service not bad (better than in the past), portion sizes have gone down and prices have gone up, yikes. I guess my birthday spot needs to change. $31 bucks now for filet and chicken, ouch. Still good but it was $98 for 3 people (2 adults and 1 kid) the other night and I only ordered one beer $9 Asahi. Reasonable is one thing, but it is out of reach now for us.
We had made a reservation and they asked if it was a for celebration so we gave the names of the three people who had their birthdays; yet when we got there they had no idea that it was for a birthday celebration. Why ask? The food was OK and the service was marginal. We had to ask several times to get some things and then we were asked to leave because they were busy. We thought that was rude because it was a birthday celebration for three people, we all left good tips, and quite honestly they weren't that busy when we walked out. We probably would've lingered maybe five more minutes at most. Wait it out!
We've gone to Miyama the past 3 years for Valentine's day and always have a great time. The only complaint I have is that this time the chef knew 1 of the couples sitting at the table and really just chatted with them the entire time and did not engage much with the other people at the table. That made it a lot less enjoyable... otherwise food was good as always
Unfortunately this was a disappointment. I love hibachi and was excited to find this new place. The restaurant is really beautiful but the food was not up to par with other places. The fried rice was undercooked, lacked flavor and had too many onions. The calamari was like eating rubber. There were no hibachi noodles or yumi-yumi sauce - like every other Japanese steakhouse has. Fortunately the sushi was good but I still won't be going back.
First time at this neighborhood location. Have gone to several authentic Japanese Steak Houses in the past and this experience was right up there with the best. Service was quick and friendly. Food was very good. Prices were not inexpensive but reasonable. We'll probably do it again with friends.
The kitchen was very busy, and the chefs seemed a bit rushed because of it. My wife and I had to wait quite a long time before we received our entrées. However the staff was nice enough to offer complementary sushi for the inconvenience. The chef tried to cook everything quickly because we were so behind schedule, but this led to the rice being under cooked. However, he more than made up for it with the incredible entrées. The meat was cooked perfectly, and our meal included ice cream at the end. We had good company at our table, and the night turned out great. Overall Miyama was a great place for a fun date with tasty food.
I made a 7:45 pm reservation and waited 2 hours and was never seated. While waiting at the bar we witnessed the owner bumping certain groups ahead of ours, pretty obvious when you've been waiting for over an hour and a new group walks in and immediately gets whisked away to a table. The two bartenders were very good and even tried to interupt the owner who was bumping yet another group ahead of us. One bartender said, "hey, these people have been waiting two hours! Get them to a table..." The owner replied that he could seat us in the main dining area, not around one of the grills, but that it would be a 15 to 20 minute wait. Mind you, he just decided to seat a party of 8 that was sitting right next to us at the bar and had arrived about an hour after our party of 4. The owner also offered to give us a gift certificate. I declined his offer, after waiting 2 hours we decided to leave and eat elsewhere. Although we've dined here several times before and always enjoyed the food, we will not return.
We came in on New Years Eve. Had an early reservation (5:15) but were seated 30 min. late and didn't place order for another 30 min. Chef was clearly rushed (meat not cooked as well as requested). Food was good as usual. Kobe beef was a nice surprise although taste was not as good as kobe we have had elsewhere. Had to stop waitress (clearly understaffed) multiple times for things that on other visits they were always on top of.
Our reservation was for 12 noon on Christmas Day. Restaurant opened about 5 minutes before noon, so we were able to warm up inside. The hosts immediately sat us at our table, and we settled in comfortably. Our server (I forgot his name...my apologies!) was excellent. He took very good care of us. He was very attentive and made sure we had everything we asked for all throughout our meal. The teppanyaki chef was funny and entertaining. He cooked our veggies and seafood very well, but did not do well with our steaks. He specifically asked how we wanted our steaks cooked, and I said rare and my husband was medium rare. Well...mine was medium rare and my husband's came out almost well done. When I mentioned to the chef that my steak was more than rare, he said he did not want to serve it cold. Rare steaks are normally on the cool side! :-) The saving grace of the steaks, they were tender even if they were overcooked.
There were 4 of us, and we paid approximately $40 each. Servings were kinda small for the price. Thank goodness they all tasted delicious!
We had reservations for 6 on 12/24 at 8:15. We showed up at 8:05 and were told by the manager (blonde older lady) they just need to clean the table. That was the first lie. We saw that there were several people waiting and began talking to individuals who had a 7:45 reservation and had been waiting over a hour. Well at 8:40 we asked what was going on and we were told guaranteed a maximum of 10 minutes and we would be seated, again another lie by the manager. Well 10 minutes came and went and we were not seated. At 9:00 a table of 10 was seated. The individual with the 7:45 and my husband asked what was going on because we had both been told we were the next ones. The girl at the hostess stand said, "My manager made me do it" and the manager proceeded to tell us that because they were a table of 10 they get priority (not sure why the 4 with a reservation at 7:45 and our 6 people weren't seated). I understand when a place is busy but for the manager to continuously lie to us is the problem. Have no desire to step foot in the place when that is the type of person they hire as a manager.
