I made a reservation online for a surprise birthday/anniversary dinner for my husband. I made a note online that it was a celebratory dinner, and when we arrived the manager/host acknowledged that fact, which was awesome! Our server paid close attention to our needs but was not overly pushy, perfect! The Max's Pretzel started our meal + sausage = delicious! Crab cakes were full of crab meat & were great! Steak was cooked exactly as ordered - medium well! Surprise birthday/anniversary chocolate cake with ice cream was to die for!! Thanks for a great meal & great service!

We hadn't been in a while, and were pleased to see a new menu with new offerings but also many of the familiar favorites. The Anderson Creek oysters on the half shell were delicious (didn't care for the new mignonette dip, though), and the Oysters Rockefeller were prepared perfectly with the traditional touch of Pernod. The Foie Gras was small (isn't it everywhere) but delicious. The Oscar Filet Mignon with crabmeat was one of the best steaks I've had in a long while, and paired beautifully with a bottle of 2013 Shafer One Point Five cabernet sauvignon. The crabcakes were excellent, not too much breadcrumbs etc. One of the old favorites is the Waterzooi, which is a fish filet (red snapper when we went, which had a great crunchiness on the edges but was very tender and moist inside) with crabmeat (a lot) and a wonderful sauce.

Make Max's your date night go to or maybe getting enaged or maybe joining friends at the bar or maybe just a wonderful place to take some one out to some where special to say thanks for being in my life. The menu is so wonderfully varied it's not hard to find something that everyone will rave about. You'll feel like you have just walked into a favorite restaurant of yours in France but with out the flight across the pond. We are so lucky to have Max's in Richmond.

Both of us got the filet with crab meat and hollandaise.
My steak was prepared exactly the way I ordered, which rarely happens elsewhere, good sear on the outside, warm RED inside.
Wine by the glass is often iffy, but the Oregon Pinot Noir was quite good.
Having valet parking is a big big plus, especially on the nights we attend the Theater.

Came for dinner before a special event. Dressed in a tux and cocktail dress and we didn't feel out of place. French onion soup was to die for. I had the Waterzooi and it was delicious. My date had the steak-frites and enjoyed it as well. We sat upstairs to enjoy the view which is lovely (even though some construction was going on outside). Creme brûlée was also lovely.

Solid Sunday Brunch. Requested a table downstairs and the hostess was able to take care of.
Valet parking is very convenient. Three of us tried the French Onion Soup. We rated is as among the best in town. Overall a pleasant dining experience. Will return.

This was out 3rd trip to Max's. They have never failed to surprise us with the quality of the service and food. Had 4 people - 2 had never been to Max's. All of us are foodies. Everybody loved their meal and wondered why they hadn't come sooner. Love the food and the atmosphere. This is becoming one our our Go To places.

Consistently good restaurant that we've enjoyed many times. I really wish they had not removed the olive oil and herb mix from the table with the bread. They are now serving butter. The lobster pot pie was delicious.

Menu is not as interesting at lunch time as it used to be. Lot more sandwiches instead of lunch size entree's. feels a bit too much like Can Can now. Construction made the view less interesting. Odd place to suddenly put a statue instead of having a nice tree there.

We went for dinner before a show at the VA Rep. The reservation was for 6:30 and we got there on time. The waiter knew we were going to a show. We ordered right away and our appetizers came out without too much delay. Our dinners, however, took a very long time. Dinner did not reach our table until 7:30 which means we had to shovel the food in so we could make our 8:00 performance. The food was ok but I will find another spot to eat before the next performance I attend. If I go back to Max's it will be for Sunday brunch/lunch when it won't matter how long it takes.

The waiter couldn't even tell us what the ingredients were in their carbonara, and they were the same as most. We ordered 2 bottles of wine and were given and charged for the higher level of wine, the manager did give us the price of the bottles we originally ordered. People say they love this place, I was not overly impressed. Glad I went though.

Max's is a great, warm and interesting addition to Richmond. The Belgian inspired menu has many strengths - mussels appropriately chief among them. This is a great date place- the dining room was delightful with the huge windows open to a soft summer evening. The service was impeccable, very professional and thoughtful.

Our most recent visit to Max's was for our anniversary and it never disappoints. This is one of our favorite restaurants anywhere. The Filet Oscar is out of this world and we love the heavily Belgian beer list. The service is always top notch as well.

Atmosphere was fun. Service was attentive and friendly. I sat upstairs and the noise level was fine. I ordered the Seared Halibut and the bed of beans and lardons was fantastic, but the Halibut was a little overcooked and so not as moist and tender as it should have been. The chocolate cake dessert was delicious and generous for two!

I've eaten here twice in the past month. First time was phenomenal, second time was not. Two of our food items came out very cold and one had very little sauce. Service was good and love the decor, but the food was not as good the second time around. Maybe it was an off day so give it a try... If you have an experience like my first time, you will be pleased!

We got the calamari as a starter which was really good and came out fast. My husband got the mussels and I got the Filet Oscar. My asparagus tasted like it took a bath in salt but the steak was amazing and was cooked perfectly. The waiter never came back to the table to check on us so at the of dinner he saw I didn't eat my asparagus with the only fix for it was he could pack me some up to go home. My husband had the mussels they had great flavor. It was our 5 year wedding anniversary and we were seated at the smallest table in restaurant. It was beyond crammed when the food started to come. My husband also called the day before and asked about their corkage fee which he was told it would be $10. Once we got their the waiter told us the corkage fee was $20. It seems to me that their is a lot of miscommunication about that.

Our food was amazing. The service, however, was lacking. We waited forever for our waitress. By the time she came back, it was too late to order the second bottle of wine. Party of 6. It also took a very long time for her to return with our check.

I recently celebrated my birthday at Max's on Broad on September 8th. Dylan, our server, was extremely accommodating of our group, knowledgeable about the menu, and very adept at serving. The food, in particular the moules et frites, were amazing, as were the drink selections. My group and I had a wonderful time and highly recommend Max's; we will definitely be back.

Our second visit. I like the valet parking in this part of town. Took our own wine with $20 / bottle corkage fee. Great waiter. Delicious oyster roast in lobster cream. Champagne vinagrette also great on salads. Beet and watermelon salad good. Mussels yummy. We'll be back.
