The steak was excellent...it is just alot of food. My husband and I attempted to share a steak and we still had enough left over for another person. The restaurant reminds me a little of Ruths Chris...I would definitely recommend it.

Visited Mastro's for the first time for my 23rd birthday. It was my first time at a fine dining restaurant, period so I was excited to visit after learning about it through friends and acquaintances. I was immediately turned off by the hostesses. I don't appreciate the dirty and snobby stares I received when I walked in. They painted on an obligatory smile and they were so obviously phony, I questioned my decision to come here. Onto the waitress. Her service was nothing special. She didn't check on my mother and I that often and I could tell she was being phony as well. Was not that helpful with drink or food recommendations. When I asked her about a particular dish, she gave a generic one word reply. My mom had no idea what to drink and she didn't help her at all!
Ambiance and food was great! No complaints there.
One last issue: I didn't see or notice a single black server on the floor, but was BEYOND disappointed to learn that the only black person or one of the only was working in the bathroom handing out towels and cleaning stalls after each use. I understand she had a choice, but I didn't care to see that. That was a deal breaker for me as a black woman.
So overall, great food, beautiful restaurant, but I will not return because of the mediocre service. I've had better and more sincere welcoming service at a fast food restaurant. I posted a yelp review as well and noticed that many have similar views about the service as me, minorities and whites included. Something really needs to be done about the servers, especially those snobby hostesses.

I came with high expectations to what most food raters rated the 5th best steak house in chicago . The service and broiled bone marow appetizer were out standing. The steaks were quite ordinary a solid b but expected much much better for steak house prices and rating . The upstairs dining room was worn and old not in a good way . Noise level on each level (music) was loud prohibiting conversation. The sides were average with the fries a big soggy dissapointment. This and Lou minaitis two chitown let downs

It's a great place for special dinner with a special person. Very expensive but tasty and offers some exclusive dishes. Pleasant environment, quiet and cozy.
Probably too expensive to come more often but it is good for something very important in someone's life.

Wonderful experience! The service was extremely friendly and attentive and the food was exquisite. Started with the shrimp cocktail which was served atop dry ice and made for a nice visual. Main course was the bone-in ribeye which was cooked a perfect medium and melted in your mouth. The food, drinks and service at Mastro's is always consistently beyond great and I would highly recommend this steakhouse as one of Chicago's finest.

One mark of an exceptional restaurant is their proactive efforts to make amends for food or service that is not commensurate with their standards. My waiter was exceptional and the manager was incredibly perceptive of my steak's being less than "perfect." Despite my objection, he insisted on "making it right," stating that it was his job to do so. WOW! I will be back and highly recommend Mastro's Steakhouse to any discerning diner, who appreciates exceptional food and service.

Dinner was great, just disappointed when I let the server know we were celebrating a birthday and asked the birthday girls name and spelling and then did nothing to celebrate the birthday including charge us for the dessert

I've been to all the major steak houses in Chicago and Mastro's is by far the worst. Service was mediocre. Noise level was way too loud. Resturant was filled mainly with tourists (that should have been a give away) . A great example of the poor service was when I checked in, four people were behind the reception stand trying to figure something out. It was about two and half minutes before anyone acknowledge me ( a "we will be right with you" would have sufficed). Once the hostess asked me for my name, which I gave her, then asked if my phone number was 312-xxx-xxxx, I said yes, she said my table would be ready in a few minute. At no time did she say I would be texted, I only figured it out after I overheard another host telling that to someone else and I checked my phone. I received a text five minutes earlier telling me my table was ready. At the table, after we sat down, we were asked if we would like to order a cocktail, sure in a minunte we said. Waitress comes back, we had looked at the cocktail list online since we were not given a cocktail list when we sat down. One of my dining companions ordered a cocktail she found on the Mastro's online menu, waitress says we don't have that, let me get you a cocktail menu...really, that would have been helpful and approiate when we sat down. Poor service. Cost of this dining fiasco was in excess of $500. There are many, many better options available, do yourself a favor and choose one that is worth the money.

My wife says the smoking cosmo martini was the best she has ever had; and she has had some REALLY good martinis around this country and the world!
The service was terrific. Brittany, our server, was very attentive without being overbearing or rushing us in the least. In a city with superb steakhouses, this one stands out for the sheer excellence of the food. The steaks, sides and appetizers were all among the best I have tasted.
After dinner we went to the bar which featured great entertainment and really pleasant bartenders. Great vibe!
It is expensive, but I never once thought it was anything but worth every dollar.

The food was EXCELLENT! Highly recommend the food to anyone! The service was great and my glass was always filled with water and a refill for my other drink. We did not have to wait long for our food and the food came out nice and HOT! Sizzling on the plate still.
My only complaint is, we had to sit in the Lounge area because we did not meet the dress code. We spent $200.00 on our food and we couldn't sit in the nice and quiet dining room. The lounge is nice, but If your on a date, the music was too loud and it was groups of people who were there for a different occasion.
But overall, everything was top notch!

This was our second time going to a Mastro's restaurant and we continue to be very impressed with the food and service. We got seafood both times so can't speak to the steaks, but I'm sure they are as great as they look. With the high price tag, it's not for a typical date night, but is perfect for special occasions.

Restaurant was very nice and comfortable, not cramped. Food was amazing, appetizer lobster bisque was delcicious with a generous portion. Shrimp cocktail was good and had an impeccable presentation. I had the NY strip steak with peppercorn gravy which delicious and cooked to perfection. Drinks were great and dessert, which was the butter cake, flavor was out of this world.

Food is very good... but pricey. Expect to pay $100 per person before drinks. Service was second rate, our waiter acted like he was doing us the favor of serving us. We had a very nice table by the window... and they made us pay for that privilege all night, the AC was blasting, we were all cold, and asked to have the AC turned down... Yeah!! Right!! Never happened. There are better steakhouses in Chicago... not worth the money.
