My boyfriend and I eat here at least 3 times a month. We love the steaks, fresh sea food, and of course the buttercake. But on Monday night I planned a birthday dinner for him. We had a table of 11 (all young well off men and their girlfriends) our bill must have been at least 1400$ but our waiter (a balled man) was horrible. He seemed uninterested in providing good service although the restaurant was not busy. We had to ask for our order to be put in, ask to order drinks, ask to order dessert and remind him to get our drinks. For an upscale dinning place you expect not to ask for anything. It is the waiters job to guide our meal and provide us an exceptional experience (I know because I am a waitress). When my boyfriend and I go out and spend 300$ on the two of us I don't want to have to wave down my server at all. I don't know if we received this service due to the fact we appeared younger or if the waiter just didn't want a 20% tip (a 280$ tip that is). It was so disappointing. But we will be back to eat here, we won't let one bad experience ruin it for us.

I would first like to say that my wife and myself frequent a competitor of which we dine at almost weekly. We have heard great things about Mastro's so we decided to go there for our anniversary. Our reservations were for 7:00. We arrived 5 minutes prior to and checked in. The young women said it would be just a few minutes so we decided to have a glass of wine at the bar. We asked her to come get us when our table was available and she happily agreed to do so. 25 minutes later I went up to find her and she said our table was available. It was not until we sat down that I looked at my phone. They had sent me a text 20 minutes prior advising us that our table was ready. Also, she never mentioned they would text us. Very disappointed that the young women had not followed through and walked over to the bar and informed us as she had promised. Now we were brought to a very dark room that looked like a overflow room. All of the other tables had candles on the table with the exception of ours. We had to ask for one just to be able to see the menu. I have excellent eyesight but still cold not read the menu. Anyway, we got out our "readers" to read the menu. We ordered a bottle of decent cab right away. We then ordered an appetizer, split a salad, and the waiter suggested a porterhouse for 2 which we ordered. The main part of our meal took over 40 minutes to arrive even though much of the restaurant was vacated by this time. I feel this was a kitchen problem, not a waiter problem. The waiter realized this and tried to make it up by bringing us three huge deserts which quite frankly we did not want. My wife just wanted a dish of sorbet which would have been silly to order at this time. I also must say the $115 steak was marginal at best. Needles to say we will not frequent Mastro's again. Mastro's is not nearly worth the $350 we spent. Almost forgot to mention they charge you $6 for valet. Really!

To be fair, I may have ordered the wrong things, but was not impressed with the food. We had the special of the night the wagu steak and it was ok at best. I've had Kobe in Japan before and it was outstanding, thought it would be in the same range. Hugely disappointing. The scalloped potatoes seemed almost raw. The butter cake was good and the service was impeccable. I may try it again and just get the filet and see if it's any better. Just unimpressive food.

We were celebrating my grandmothers 94th birthday and had a wonderful evening start to finish! The host had us seated right away and our server and entire wait staff was extremely friendly and attentive. Wonderful meal, as always!!!!

Porter house Steak and the ribeye had no taste very bland , tuff and chewy. Chicken also had no taste bland. Salmon is salmon and tasted ok. Mac and cheese and sautéed spinach very good. Table placed facing the entrance walk area. So, my view was straight ahead of the kitchen door, foot traffic entrance and exit noise. Restaurant was selected for my birthday. Very disappointed.

Took my girlfriend for her birthday. Food was good not great. Issue I had was there was a hair in my girlfriend's steak. I'm not one to complain but this ruined our date. All I got was a new steak. I didn't mind paying but I even got charged for you piece of cake.

Maestro's never disappoints. We arrived and were greeted right away by courteous staff. The place has plenty of seating and they were able to accommodate us earlier than our reservations. The menu is top notch and as always prepared just to our liking. The waiters are attentive and very knowledgeable. We had a great time and will definitely be making this our new favorite.

If you are looking for a great steak or excellent seafood with impeccable service then you won't be disappointed. Mastro's waiters and assistants are among the best in the OC. Arrive early and start your evening with their equally creative and top notch mixologists in the bar.

Food and service was excellent, however being seated at a table next to the lounge where a live band was performing made it impossible to hold a conversation with anyone at our table. It would have been nice to have been told this is the table I made reservations for.

Food was outstanding as usual, however, the service was slow and disorganized. The staff and our server were great, but checked on us a few times and that was it. We didn't like the table we got in the covered patio either. Our waiter did do something very special for our friend's engagement dinner and we were thankful for that. He did bring out 3 desserts with a congratulations message for them. We frequent Mastro's and understand this is more of an isolated experience that it was a busy day. Usually we receive very good service.

My husband and I got married hear a year ago and came back for our first anniversary dinner celebration. We had a wonderful time.
Services was wonderful.

I made reservations for my boyfriend's 22nd birthday dinner. The live music set a nice mood but it was too loud. We started off with sauteed scallops and the lobster bisque and it was extremely heavy for the appetizers. I got the seabass and my boyfriend got the porterhouse steak which was very flavorful but we both could not finish it because it was very heavy. I wish I had something to eat on the side that was more light and refreshing. The birthday special cake we had kind of tasted like playdough. Service was good, nothing too special.

Server named Shane and hosts treated us like second class citizens, it took over 15 minutes just to finally come back and take our order and then another 15 just to get our check. Host did not seem too happy to seat us. It's funny because just to get our check we were not even realized by our own server either. For a $$$$ restaurant I would at least expect top notch service.

Chef's cut ribeye chop was undercooked. Lamb was on the dry side. Lobster mash potato had less lobsters than before. And our waiter forgot to box up our leftover appetizer. :(
We had our New Year's Day dinner here, felt that this restaurant is going down. Their quality has declined throughout past years. Not considering to return to this place anytime soon.

I truly love the experience I have when I eat here. The service is amazing and the food and drinks are even better. I never leave without ordering their signature dessert, butter cake. Their drinks always have a healthy pour and last the evening. They even have a great wine list for the wine enthusiast. I look forward to my next dinner there.

NYE celebration!! What a wonderful evening, with exceptional service. Food was out of this world! I had the Japanese Wagyu 8oz--expensive (for me) but so worth it! I would totally order it again! And of course had to have the famous butter cream cake!! "Sweet!" In more ways than one. We were able to be there through midnight...got to count down in style, with compliment champagne!!

Last time I go to this Mastro's (Costa Mesa). Service is not up to par at this location. I requested several times to be in the main dining room but was located in the busy hallway. On my Open Table request I indicated if they were unable to seat me in the main dining area then cancel the reservation. Confirmed one day before with a positive response. It didn't happen. Go to the Newport or Beverly Hills locations, much better.
