Mastro's Steakhouse - Costa Mesa Ratings and Reviews

usually i love Mastro's Steakhouse, but i'm not sure if recently the chefs have changed or if the quality has changed, but it just wasn't as good this time. i've been to mastro's quite a few times and it has always been good to great, but this time was very underwhelming.
i went for my mother's birthday as i was hoping it would be another great meal, but unfortunately it fell short this time. the scalloped potatoes were flavorless and completely overpowered by a sour cheese note. the mac and cheese was also very bland. the sauteed mushrooms were great! but the steaks and the seafood tower all fell short of what i usually expect.
i hope this was a rare miss and given the track record, i'm inclined to believe it is, but after my most recent experience, i may have to give mastro's a little break before returning.

outstanding food and service. best swordfish and twice baked potato i have ever had. the complimentary chocolate pudding birthday dessert was both delicious and appreciated. can't wait to go back for another birthday celebration.

I have been to four different Mastro's sites and am never disappointed. The bone-in filet is incredible. I have tried every side dish and all are fantastic. The other great thing is that the wines are reasonably priced. I would highly recommend for any occasion!!

we love Mastro's, its our favorite place. this time for whatever reason the food was not good and the service was less than desirable. for the money and amount of times i visit this restaurant, i expect much more than i received.

Honestly my experience there and this is the second time that I've eaten there, was not very positive. I don't think I would ever go back. It was especially offensive being told that we could only have one glass of water due to the water shortage I thought our waitress was edgy and condescending once we did not order bottled water This Barriga's was horrible and Woody and thick
Just my two cents

Always a great experience. We had dinner pre show at the Segrestrom center and came back for warm butter cake and latte's. We had dinner in the dinning room but choose the bar for our desert. I love the bar at Mastro's because it always has live music and the proformers are great.

The food is excellent, the ambiance is lovely, the service is impeccable. Even sitting right next to another table we felt we had complete privacy. A couple of things could be improved, such as updating the menus to the new tablet form, and doing something about the noise level. Theres a din that makes it difficult to hear speech, and I have great hearing.

Service was ok. Food was passable. When I order a steak at $56.00 it should melt in my mouth. This one fell short. I had this experience that I can never get back. To make a lasting impression of a great dinning experience was what I am waiting for... unfortunately, I am not going to experience such a thing at Mastro's. And yes I have had plenty good dinning experiences at other restaurants. I also watched as another table with 4 was being serviced by 2 servers. Wine poured b/4 glasses were emptied. WOW! They definitely knew management.

We had a wonderful time. The Waitress was very helpful with her suggestions, pleasant and timely. We were going to the Theater and she made sure we were finished in time to go. It was nice to be able to leave our car at the Valet and walk over to the Show

Having plans to attend Segerstrom across the street, this was the logical dining choice before the show, unfortunately the show got cut short for us due to some irritable reaction in my girlfriends stomach, which came from our dinner at Mastro's.
My girlfriends filet which was topped with truffle butter, was over seasoned and overcooked for a medium rare request. I am not sure if it was the meat, or the butter, but something in that selection caused irritation to my girlfriends stomach. The irritation occurred thirty to forty minutes after dining causing our intermission exit from the theatre.
My wagyu stake was good but far from the best I've had, I was additionally dissatisfied when having to spit out tendon. I have a high expectation in not just the taste but the overall cut when it comes to this type of dining experience. It is difficult to remove all tendon from steak but at this level it is expected, one should not have to spit out any portions of a cut such as this.
The lobster mashed potatoes were as good as I remember and the way it is served and presented is as expected. The bars lemon drop martini is an interesting drink with an outstanding flavor. I wish the steak at this "steakhouse" would be the item to standout, not the drink and side.
A very important part of my dining experience in a restaurant is the service, which was the only thing I can highly praise at Mastro's in Costa Mesa. From our entry to the restaurant to our exit, all staff is attentive and courteous providing a high level of service.

Appetizers and entrees were excellent, however some of the side dishes were mediocre and overpriced. Service was okay, we had a trio of waitresses serving as a team, one was excellent, the other two were scarcely seen. Overall good, but prices were not commensurate with overall experience.

My husband & I go to Mastro's for the great live music (we always sit in the lounge), the food & the great black cherry lemon drop martini's (they are the best). My husband does not drink martini's but he drinks them there. Sometimes we just take off and go there for late night drinks listen to the great duo singing & playing music in the lounge. The girl especially has a great voice. We have taken several friends, family and customers here for dinner & drinks. Mastro's is our go to place to eat and enjoy each others company. Everyone we take there loves the place. We go there for every occasion! We love it...

Our experience was rather disappointing. We have dined at Mastros on several occasions and love it. We made reservations of Saturday to celebrate our 2 year anniversary. We were placed in the bar, which seemed to defeat the purpose of a reservation. We wanted a romantic dinner but rather, we sat in the noisy bar.
Also, the server ID is both when we ordered alcohol. We are well over the age of 21, and we felt that the gesture was very condenseding, which continued to be the servers attitude towards us during our dinner.
It was a very disappointing dinner, to say the least.
