Marmalade Restaurant & Wine Bar Ratings and Reviews
The server Luis was the most knowledgeable, friendly, and hospitable server I've ever had. The whole team was unbelievably attentive without being interruptive or overbearing. I cannot give the chef enough accolades for producing six exquisite and inventive courses. Overall a five star experience; will definitely be back.
This restaurant is pretty much perfect. The decor is funky and comfortable, the service is impeccable, and the owner is super-friendly and interesting as he makes the rounds to talk with all of his customers. The food is incredible, as are the wine pairings. We had the four-course tasting menu, which was plenty! The white bean soup and lobster risotto were indescribably delicious, and our main courses (snapper and tenderloin), and dessert (salted caramel-corn creme brule and warm banana and butterscotch bread pudding) were also amazing. We're on vacation, but will dine there again before we leave PR!
We had the best experience possible. We were celebrating our 20th anniversary and the night started with a special table with a couch that was more like a bed with rose pedals strewn on the table (I actually took a picture of the table). The server was a total pro, the food was unreal. I definitely recommend the 5 course option.
Every sever who came by congratulated us sincerely on our anniversary and Peter, the chef/owner came by for a great conversation about PR, the food, our milestone anniversary and, more importantly, life.
If you are in Puerto Rico, be sure to join Peter and his phenomenal crew for dinner. You will love it!
As a chef myself I'm quite picky in many regards. Needless to say Marmalade was a real gem of an establishment. I compared my meal here to one of my favorite restaurants in bourgogne, France. Chef Peter's style is quite similar to my own, eclectic, inspired, yet boundary-less. Execution was great, our server attentive and hospitable. One of those places you wish was even remotely close to home. San Juan is lucky, and marmalade is a must for anyone.
Amazing! My husband and I each did the 4 course option, I included the wine pairing. We each ordered different items to get a good tasting. The serving sizes were large, so I do think a 3 course option would be nice, but everything was so good I am not sure what we would have left out! The truffle bean soup and the lamb were the highlights for me, and the rabbit pasta and liquid dessert were my husband's favorites. A must try if you are in San Juan!!
My husband and I decided to dine at Marmalade based on several recommendations from friends and family. Our expectations were sky high and the resulting food, service and ambiance did not disappoint!
To start, our waiter Luis was a major highlight of the experience. Luis was well-informed about every aspect of the restaurant's menu and went above & beyond ensuring we had excellent service throughout the meal. He has a fantastic personality and Marmalade is lucky to have him.
Having settled on the five-course tasting menu, we made a wise choice including the matching wine pairings. The first-three courses included highlights such as the famous white bean soup, the "lobster in every bite" risotto (it came pretty close!) and local rabbit garganelli. A particular favorite was the popcorn shrimp which altered from the traditional dish by grilling the shrimp and including pieces of popcorn to complement the flavor. For entree, we tried the pork cheekbones and special Braised Pork / Scallop surf & turf which were both excellent. The meal ended on a high with decadent 8-layer cake and a Creme Brulee.
I would highly recommend anyone interested in fine dining in Puerto Rico to visit Marmalade. The food and overall experience warrant the price point.
We went to Marmalade while on vacation in Puerto Rico per a suggestion from close friends who had visited! I am so glad we made a reservation however there were plenty of tables for a Wednesday night in early May so reservations weren't absolutely necessary. I hear that it is very challenging to get reservations on weekends however so plan accordingly. Since our visit was a special occasion and we wanted to have the total experience, my husband and I got the 5 course tasting meal with wine pairing. Every single dish was excellent. My very favorite two dishes were the white bean soup and sea bass. My husband, who isn't a fan of beans in general, ate half of my soup. It was delicious. All dishes paired with excellent wines that the server was extremely knowledgeable about. The service was flawless. Our server was so nice - answered all of our questions, knowledgeable about the menu and it was clear he is very passionate about his work. You do get a pretty large portion of food with each course so by the fourth course I was extremely full. I did manage to enjoy the bread pudding for dessert and the extra calories were so worth it! Overall one of the best restaurant experiences we have had. Thanks Marmalade!
Phenomenal menu. Amazing variety of gluten free, vegan, organic, non-gmo & clean options you could feel good about BUT it still tasted like a huge, comfort food treat. Best white bean soup & creme brulee I've ever had. Service was impeccable. Even the chef was friendly and spent a good amount of time walking around greeting all of the guests and shaking hands. Only a chef who has invested a tremendous amount of time and training his staff can do that. We had a reservation at the Ritz Carlton the following night and cancelled it to go back to Marmalade a second time, it was that stellar. I have several food allergies and was skeptical about what I would be able to eat in Puerto Rico since so many things are fried. I could eat almost everything on the menu, and the staff was very knowledgeable about gluten-free options.
The food was outstanding as always! A lot less crowded than our previous visits. Somehow, the White Bean Soup continues to taste better each time we have had it. This, being our 4th time at Marmalade, continued to be the case. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about wine pairing and alternative pairing to suit our palates. 5 Stars once again!
This was our favorite restaurant in San Juan and was highly recommended to us by others who had eaten there. The food was superb. We had the 3 course tasting menu and were stuffed when we left. Every course was memorable and all of us truly enjoyed our choices. Although the exterior is deceiving, the interior atmosphere was fabulous; I felt like I was in South Beach, Miami. After dinner the chef visited our table to ensure that we were pleased. I will recommend the restaurant to others as my top choice in old San Juan.
