Maggiano's - Chevy Chase Ratings and Reviews
Caleb (our server) was amazing! We told him it was our first time & he gave great recommendations & always with a smile. The chef even came out with a special dish for us to sample to welcome us on our first time! We’ll definitely be back to see Caleb again!
This is a large restaurant in Chevy Chase - more like a canteen - with lots of photos and images evoking life back home in Italy in the early twentieth century and with it the suggestion that diners are going to receive top quality Italian food. They will not. The helpings are enormous but the food is pretty tasteless. I had linguine con frutti di mare. The seafood, likely frozen, had lost all taste and it came swimming in a very spicy wishy-washy liquid (I cannot bring myself to call it a sauce/ragu). I followed with a pretty nondescript cheesecake, which was not very cheesy. We dined during happy hour so we took advantage of the house wine offerings, which were Italian and OK. Service was Ok but despite there being about 10 servers hanging about only one guy seemed to take and deliver the orders and somehow he managed to charge us full price for the happy hour white wine, then, took ages to correct it. Meanwhile, we needed to leave promptly to go to the AMC for a film and for 10 minutes he did not pay us any attention.
So, the decor and server promised much but overall Maggiano's does not deliver. No Italian chef would dare serve this fare.
Restaurant was not terribly busy and therefore we could not understand why the service was beyond slow. Waiter took too long of a time to bring our drinks and food. Nor did he seem to care that he was not more efficient. My tip reflected my disappointment. Most irritating is that the restaurant "upped" the tip I left on my credit card. I plan to dispute this "upping;" however, because the restaurant attempted to "up" the tip I wanted to leave, I will not go to this restaurant again.
I've been to this particular Maggianos several times with out of town groups. It was a particularly busy night and our servers had several large groups that impacted the usual attentative service. One of my group had a birthday and four were first timers . We were assured special attention ... didn't happen. Even after everyone ordering dessert and other tables getting birthday cake our birthday person sat at the table with no dessert while the rest of sat and waited. Very awkward.
After a year long hiatus, I saw the Happy Hour sign offering Live Jazz on Wednesday’s. Although I came on Monday to watch the Giants play, the Happy Hour scene was happening.
The bartender Mukesh deserves an award for his non stop serving to an abundance of customers simultaneously. His social skills are Bar none!
Don, the amazing Service Manager was present per usual his schedule who happily makes his rounds to check on the customers
He just as engaging & takes pride in hearing great things about his staff.
Maggiano’s is absolutely the Friendship Heights neighborhood gem for authentic Italian food, Social Scene & fantastic service.
You’re a few steps away from the FH Metro Station-Red Line.
Amazing service and food! Made my birthday perfect! I had a large group and tried the brunch which is a new thing. The staff was very attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. The food was absolutely delicious too! It was my first time there too and will definitely go back.
Service was lousy - even took 20 minutes to pay my bill (should of dined and ditched). Talked to the restaurant ahead of time as it was my wife's 60th birthday and nothing happened - so disappointed and I am a Maggiano's regular (first time at this location). The tomato brushetta was also poor. On the bright side, the flat breads and mushroom appetizers were excellent. Our entres were also excellent. Not sure that I will return.
Went for birthday, had ziti (could use more cheese), but good. Portions are hearty. Wanted salad, but salad dressings are house or vinaigrette, which usually have onions (allergic), so did not have (add Catalina/French to menu). Spaghetti was also hearty portion. These pastas were buy and take one home. So, it was good quantity. The service was courteous. Most people come in parties of four or more.
