Great service. Wonderful atmosphere. Excellent food.
We were celebrating my daughter's birthday therefore splurged on a fancy lunch. The breads were fantastic with great choices, the sandwiches were awful, fishy tasting fish so definitely not fresh, my husband's BBQ pork was so very dry. After we complained they made it up by giving us desserts that we took home and those were very good so if you're looking for bread and dessert they're great but the sandwiches were definitely very mediocre.
This was our first time at Madison. We found the food to be fresh and creative and the service impeccable. We had read reviews about what a wonderful place it was and we were not disappointed.
My wife and I celebrated her birthday at Madison's, and the evening was excellent. She just had a salad and the gnocchi first course as a main, plus the hazelnut dessert soufflé. Salad was full of interesting things, and the gnocchi were wonderfully light and served with a nice sauce including fresh morels. Only issue was that there weren't very many of them (about 6). That's fine for a first course, but the waiter assured us they could be served as a main, and when ordered that way the portion wasn't any more generous. But she's a gnocchi lover, and these were outstanding. I had the steak tartare (fine) and the "mountain paella", an interesting dish with a piece of rabbit loin on top of spicy Carolina Gold rice with some confit of rabbit leg mixed in. Quite nice, and a creative touch. We also had a very good Provençal red wine recommended by the wine steward.
Service was very attentive: indeed, pretty much my only complaint was that it was a bit too attentive. Our waiter insisted on providing extremely prolix explanations of everything, including how to compose a dinner of two courses and dessert! They should really tone this down a bit. And also, while describing in minute detail each of the ingredients in my Manhattan, one thing he didn't mention was that my choice of a special bourbon would raise the price to $26.
These were comparatively minor issues, though. Overall it was an outstanding dinner.
Had a wonderful birthday. Food delicious and loved the booth
Excellent ambience and very good service and food
It was our 33 Anniversary and we could not have been more pleased. When we arrived our table had rose petals scattered in celebration of our anniversary. We ordered the duck and braised short ribs and they were both fantastic. They offered a complimentary appetizer along with wonderful artisan breads. For dessert we had a delicious raspberry lemon souffle. They have an extensive wine list along with specialty cocktails. Our server was excellent and very knowledgeable about the wine list. Madison's is our favorite restaurant in Highland's and we could not have picked a more perfect place to celebrate our special day.
What a beautiful place and wonderful staff! That being said, the food did not deliver. I’m a vegetarian and my only choice was a veggie burger. It was wet and mushy and had an overwhelming taste of mushrooms. It was covered in a mountain of alfalfa sprouts that only further amplified the earthy/ wet soil flavor and aroma. This was accompanied by hand cut salt and pepper potato chips. They were soft, not crunchy and had such a light dusting of salt (no pepper) that they were tasteless. We ordered an appetizer of hummus that was so thick and dry it fell off the pita chips it was served with. Again, there was an over generous pile of sprouts and greens covering it. However, my husband’s trout salad was perfection! We had the Pavlova for dessert and it was delightful. In summary, Vegetarian food doesn’t have to bland and challenging. I’m sorry that we drove an hour and a half on our anniversary for such a let down. Our server, Ishmael, was simply wonderful and as I did not complain, he had no idea that we were dissatisfied. The food was not a reflection upon him and he deserved, and received, a generous tip.
Great meal and best service. Delicious food and drink.
The food was excellent and we felt well cared for all evening, which made for an exceptional honeymoon dinner!
We celebrated our wedding anniversary at Madisons and it was very good food and service. The atmosphere is very comfortable.
Impeccable service, attention to detail, and locally sourced, superbly prepared food. It was a beautiful evening!
Service and food outstanding.Would recommend to anyone.
Excellent in every way! Quality food, beautiful presentation, impeccable service and they took great care of my wife whose diet requires gluten free.
Fabulous food, ambience, manager check-in. The waiter was curt - not particularly friendly or informative. Had a great time overall!
We celebrated Mother's Day there. There is a gorgeous view from the dining room windows. The food was excellent. I ordered the rib eye and my husband ordered Sunburst Trout. Just the right amount of food. Pete was our server and we shared a few laughs with him. Memorable evening.
A BEAUTIFUL HOTEL WITH A FABULOUS RESTAURANT. A CREATIVE KITCHEN AND SUPERIOR
PRESENTATION. THE SERVICE STAFF IS EXCELLENT AND PROFESSIONAL
Exceeded all expectations. Amazing service, and extremely high quality food.
Excellent in all respects! We've been dining here on our anniversary for the last 5 years and have always had a perfect meal and service in a beautiful elegant setting. Madison's is a very special dining experience.
Madison's offers both indoor and outdoor dining currently as we are in the late spring and summer months. Guests have a choice--we chose indoor because there was a breeze and indoor dining includes fine china/silver and elegant table cloths. Food is typically well prepared; it was again. Service is generally provided by younger people who are recruited and effectively prepared to perform their responsibilities. Tables always include fresh flowers. It is true that while this facility caters to the older generation of people, you often see newly married people there, too. Menu items do vary substantially; therefore, you are wise to review their online menus on a weekly basis. Serving portions, even at lunchtime, are quite generous. Cost is reasonable. That's especially surprising because this is a resort type of facility at Old Edwards Inn in Highlands. Reservations are not required; however, they are mutually desirable. You expect a first-class experience at Madison's and this restaurant delivers it.
The food was excellent and the restaurant was beautiful. Will be back soon!
Food and service was good.
Wait staff brought bill-then ticket to sign. I was overcharged. They apologized and brought another check-I was told the first ticket would be deleted. It was not. Now I have been double billed and will have to deal with credit card people. That does not suit me!
Madison’s is a wonderful restaurant. The pimento cheese, bread, salad, entree (red fish special), and soufflé were all excellent. Our server and all staff members were warm, professional, and kind. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are in Highlands.
My husband and I were vacationing in North Carolina. Madison’s was recommended by our hotel staff and by other avenues. We were not disappointed. My entree was the pork chop from the grill with a mushroom-Marsala jus and farm vegetables. My husband chose the ribeye special.
Our server was delightful and very attentive to us. I would recommend this restaurant for anyone wanting a special evening.
My wife and I had dinner at Madison's while staying at the Old Edwards Inn. The dining room is very cozy with low ceilings. It has that old but elegant look with lots of wood molding, both painted and natural (stained dark), and also a stone wall toward the back of the restaurant which might have been an original outside wall at one time. There are lots of windows which let in a lot of natural light, so great for daytime dining (night too!). The food was very good all around. My wife had a mushroom pasta entree and I had a special fish-of-the-day entree. Everything was excellent. We shared a souffle for dessert which was superb. And, the prices are really quite reasonable for a high-end establishment (member Relais & Chateaux). Everything is relative, of course, but I think this was a good value for a high end restaurant. We would definitely go there again if/when in Highlands, NC, and would highly recommend it to anyone who is seeking a higher end dinner option there.
The best in town!
Madison's as usual did not disappoint. Food, service, ambiance outstanding. They acknowledged the birthday being celebrated, everything is above and beyond. One thing that pleased me and this is likely a fluke, but in a previous visit I remarked that they went to a lot of work to prepare an excellent meal and served it on a cold plate. This time the plate was nice and hot that really makes the meal so much more enjoyable. Great drinks, wine, can't give enough accolades.
Truly excellent, creative, mostly locally sourced food. Impeccable service. Perfect for a special occasion or just for an excellent meal without TVs, blaring music and noisy groups.
We were there for lunch on our anniversary. The restaurant is lovely and it was very quiet. Our server, Anna Marie, was outstanding. We each had a glass of Cabernet to start, and the wine was very good. My husband had the cheeseburger which he said was excellent . I had the fish and chips—the fish was good, but nothing special. The fries, however, were super good, crispy on the outside and soft ins—yum! Anna Marie brought us meringue chocolate kisses to have with our coffee and a rose for our anniversary—very nice and thoughtful.
Excellent service. We were running late getting into town and missed our reservation. We called to cancel and they said they’d keep the kitchen open for us. They had our food out in less than 20 minutes and it was excellent. The braised short ribs were easily the best I’ve ever had. Our server, Robert, provided excellent service and even gave us complimentary dessert to take back to our room. We’ll definitely be back!
Madison's never disappoints..food, service and ambiance is always just perfect!
Was a late dinner and had hoped to have a quiet one with nice wine. We were seated next to a large table with multiple small children. Requested a different table and were seated next to the kitchen door! Was very loud and we heard it ever time the waiters went in and out of the kitchen!
Service was outstanding and food was awesome. This is truly a five star restaurant!
Perfection as always. We love everything about Madison’s. Everything except not knowing when we will get to dine there again.
Excellent food & service!
The service was top-notch. Our waitress went above and beyond to accommodate my needs and was so pleasant throughout .. checking in to make sure we felt good with our dish selections. The ambience was just gorgeous. Being there with my husband and getting to spend such a romantic night made it all worth while. Overall, everyone made us feel very welcome and treated us with so much respect ... I will go to Madison’s over and over again when we go back to be Highlands - good food, great atmosphere and quality service and workers ..
We celebrated our anniversary at Madison's on Sunday evening the 18th of March. Our waiter was Jamie & he was divine. The food was excellent, however they do need to add a really good Moscato to the wine list. Overall our experience was awesome, we have dined at Madison's previously & will certainly again. We enjoyed talking with Garrett the manager as well .
Vegetarian not an option!
We had an excellent lunch here. Thanks to servers Gemma and Ann and hostess/manager Sandra. All treated us like royalty. The food and service was superb!
This is a wonderful restaurant and one of our favorite destinations. When we are in Cashiers and Highlands we always eat at Madison's in the Old Edwards Inn at least one time. This past St. Patrick's weekend we ate there twice. Dinner was fabulous and the service was superb. We had our favorite server Pete who had actually been our server exactly one year earlier when we were at the restaurant in 2017. He is fantastic and made our special occasion even more special. if you go on Friday night to this restaurant you should ask for him although I think all the servers are excellent. We also had lunch at Madison's on Sunday which was equally fantastic with servers Gemma and Ann. New at Madison's is the dinning room manager Sandra Stefani. An Italian native she adds a definite European flavor and expertise to the restaurant. She is truly wonderful and very detail oriented. She will insure that you have a fabulous dining experience. Sandra is a real asset to a wonderful restaurant, establishment and dining experience. One word of advice. Reserve early. Madison's books up at least 2 weeks in advance for weekend dining.
