Louie's Wine Dive - Des Moines Ratings and Reviews
The wine list is pretty diverse and the cocktails were quite good. We found the service accommodating, but the food was lackluster at best. All our food was consistently overcooked and under seasoned, with the exception of the guacamole. Would not return to eat, but it would be a nice venue as a bar.
My husband and I love to go here, but this trip was disappointing. Our waitress did not write down our order. Firs,t she brought the wrong flavor of mimosas to us (and kind of acted like it was our fault.) Next, she brought fried potatoes with my order instead of the fresh greens. By this time I was too frustrated to even tell her. Our food was very greasy for some reason (usually it is very good.) It was just a little disappointing all the way around. We will give it another try though because we think it is a fun and different place.
Louie's is a decent option that is convenient to work for hosting guests. I only wish there were more low tables, rather than high tops. It's hard to feel businesslike when you are swinging your legs. The waitstaff is friendly and helpful with recommendations that don't sound like they are just trying to push whatever is moving slowly. Amber served us on Friday, and she is great.
I love Louie's and chose to take my mom and her friends who were visiting from out of town there for dinner before a concert. Unfortunately, it was 100 degrees outside and the air-conditioning was broken!!! We had a reservation and the restaurant did not bother to call and tell us. The food was great but the temperature of the restaurant made it unbearable.
Happy this spot is in the neighborhood but service always seems to be a bit off. There either are not enough servers or they are not well trained. On a recent night, our favorite waiter rescued us when he saw that we had been sitting for over 15 minutes without water drinks or menus! This recent trip we had a pleasant young man who made a mistake with my companion's order, when we brought it to his attention he said he would bring the correct side, but never did, and then did not comp us. Not a big deal - but annoying.
Poor experience this time compared to the other times I have dined here. Went for my birthday, server knew it was my birthday and I even stated it in my reservation. Yet nothing about my dining experience was special. Food was subpar, I could have gotten the same tacos at a taco truck for less than half the price. I honestly wish I would have spent my birthday somewhere else. Warning: don't come here for a special occasion, go somewhere that's actually special.
I was disappointed in the mediocre everything about Louie's. The patio was too noisy due to the busy location near an intersection. The server seemed new and wasn't personable, but adequate. The food did not stand out as something special enough to match the prices. We had tacos, patatas, diablo pasta and beignets. All items were seasoned too much or not enough and in essence was average. The beignets were too doughy. The guacamole was good.
Surprisingly, the wine selection was unique and the wines we had were just okay. We also got inconsistent pours between my girlfriend and I (she got about a 4oz pour and mine was closer to 7oz and they were in the $12/glass range).
I didn't feel I received the service or food quality for the price. We tried it and won't return.
Louie's is our go-to for friends to have great conversation, wonderful wine and good food. The staff always make excellent wine and food recommendations. We moved to accommodate a group -- we offered, the staff didn't ask -- and the manager brought us each a glass of sparkling wine in thanks. Very classy customer service.
NOT HAPPY WITH WAITRESS WHO SEEMED LIKE SHED RATHER BE ANY PLACE ELSE AND BROUGHT OUR ENTREE ABOUT 5 MINS AFTER APPETIZERS IN AN OBVIOUS ATTEMOT TO TURN THE TABLE. FOOD WAS EXCELLENT AND A NUMBER OF VERY GOOD OPTIONS ARE GLUTEN FREE AND DAIRY FREE WHICH MEET MY RETSRICTIONS DUE TO FOOD ALLERGIES.
Terrible service. Drink orders were slow but the problem was when it took more than an hour to get our food, even though the server knew we had tickets to a show. Manager was not apologetic. Food arrived weirdly overdone yet cold at the same time. It was like something went wrong between the server and the kitchen. All could have been better if the manager would have handled it well. I had to ask for a discount off the bill. I really want to like Louie's for a lot if reasons. They have one of the best gluten free menus in the city. But I have a hard time getting anyone to want to go there with me because of all the problems we've had in the past.
Have been eating there for a long time... on this occasion i ordered the shrimp and grits...te portion was small, three shrimp and some sauce served in a tiny frying pan and the thing was... it was warm, not hot. The shrimp were cooked perfectly but the grits were warm almost cool. I figured it was an off day but i doubt I'll have the shrimp and grits again.
The restaurant seemed unprepared for the Mother's Day Brunch crowd. We waited almost an hour after ordering to get our meal (45 minutes for the appetizer). This was disappointing as in the past we have always had a good experience here. It is time to look for someplace new to go.
Our waiter was very attentive, they had very nice background music, and the wine and food was outstanding and a great value for the price. It appeared that they had remodeled it from the last time we had visited this location, as we had gone to the now closed Waukee location most recently. Would definitely consider going back here again and appreciate the convenience of using Open Table.
We went for dinner with a group of 6 of us. Our service was perfect, just the right amount of attention. Our server also was very knowledgeable about the menu and wine selection. My husband has celiac and loves the GF fish and chips. I had pasta that I believe was made in house and was tossed with a pesto cream sauce. Delicious! I highly recommend Louie's.
I had lunch here around 1pm a couple weeks ago on a Saturday. The patio was nice and the waitstaff was friendly and attentive. The restaurant menu was small and primarily built around brunch. It would have been nice if there were more actual lunch options other than a chicken sandwich or a salad. With that being said, I'd definitely go back if I were wanting actual brunch instead of lunch.
