Los Colibris Ratings and Reviews
The first part of our meal was fantastic ...
The first part of our meal was fantastic. We order 5-6 appetizers (including 2 kinds of Ceviche, corn torta, guacamole, octopus, shrimp) and everything was perfect. Portions were a tad small, but the flavours were excellent. We were however disappointed with the main dishes. First of all, the majority are meat-based, and the only fish dish had bacon mixed in with the sauce, so as non-meat eaters, we had no option but a single vegetarian dish, called El Jardin de Wookie, which consisted of few roasted vegetables, with two moles spread around. At 22$, this dish was very disappointing, and would consider it as a side dish not a main. Our friends who ordered the Cerdo (pork shoulder) told us that they were not very impressed with the dish, especially after the excellent appetizers. We would go again, but we'll do a collection of appetizers - tapas style.

We ordered, cod ceviche, baby octopus a la veracruzana and chiles en Nogada. The Ceviche lacked marinating time. The Octopus was magnificent, fresh and the sauce and the bolillo were genuine and delicious. The Nogada chiles were fair. I have had much better in Mexico. The Margaritas we ordered were not made with fresh lime. Who ever heard of using bottled lime juice in a Mexican Margarita! The staff was very friendly and ultra nice. The bar tender came over to sing Las Mañanitas for my birthday and this was truly Mexican. So you have a mix of truly Mexican things but other make shift stuff that does not give credit to the best Mexican cuisine. You lack ambiance. You need a decorator. The glass partition looks awful.

This is our third visit in 30 days since discovering this fine Mexican restaurant. We are 60 percent through their menu and everything we have ordered has not dissapointed. My best so far is their duck for 2. I love the octopus, my wife the stuffed peppers. The lamb shank has great flavor. We liked it even better than the Italian or Greek version. The bar also makes a great margarita .Large selection of excellent Tequilla available . The Mexican dark beer is also complementary to the meal. The portions are very generous but the food is so tasty we leave stuffed. We have learnt to avoid the guacamole and chips which can fill you up and leave little room for the meal. Looking forward to our next visit. Very busy place so please make a reservation.

The empanadas that we shared between 3 of us were very good and I would order them again. My stuffed poblano pepper was very rich and as a result I wasn't able to finish it. The only negative was that once we declined dessert and coffee we were pretty much ignored and had to flag down the hostess to get our bill. She had come over at the beginning of the meal to welcome us and to see how we were getting on which was a nice touch.

I went to this restaurant with a friend from out of town, so we wanted to be able to catch up. The serving staff was very unobtrusive but were there when needed. We had a few sharing plates which were beautifully prepared and presented and more than adequate for our appetites. Definitely a lovely experience.

My wife and I found this restaurant on open table and just from the menu, we had to try it. Getting a reservation was very easy. The menu has classic Mexican/Latin cuisine that included a list of shareable type items. We tried the queso fundido and it was very tasty. My wife had the flatiron steak. It was done perfectly medium rare. So tasty! I had the stuffed Pablano pepper with chorizo and a walnut sauce. All our dishes were very flavourful but not spicy at all. Very nice date spot with great atmosphere and the drinks were pretty good too!

My wife and I have been dining at Los Colibris since it opened . It never disappoints!! You can expect excellent service and a delicious meal in a great atmosphere. From the moment you enter the door you are greeted by a friendly hostess and ushered to your table. Our waiter, last Tuesday, was Sebastian, a consummate professional who did a great job explaining the tantalizing menu options and also seemed to anticipate our every need. Javier, the restaurant manager ensures the entire operation flows smoothly. Chef Ellia continues to serve up a menu that tantalizes the taste buds. This evening we had guacamole that is a must with your Los Colibris visit. In addition, we chose the chicken empanada as our delectable appetizer. Finally our entrees were the sea bass and the allegria (chicken breast a la plancha). Both meals offer a delightful balance of taste with just the right amount of spiciness. We were just too full to order one of the wonderful desserts. In summary.. .. a fabulous dining experience !!

I love this restaurant. Every time I come here I am amazed at how everyone is completely focused on making sure your experience is fantastic. The hostess is super friendly and the servers are all so good at what they do. The kitchen is open and it is fascinating to watch the meals being made. The attention to detail is mind boggling. The food is traditional Mexican, not Tex mex and thank god for that. The combinations are delicious and all the food is made fresh from fresh ingredients. I understand that the owner uses her family recipes and they are exquisite. Cannot recommend it enough!

The food was very authentic. The waiter described the food exactly as it was presented. My wife and I enjoyed the meal. With 2 classic margaritas , the bill with tip was just over $100.00 which is excellent value for a night out. The sorbet and ice cream were excellent. We will definitely be back
I had Los Colibris on my list of places ...
I had Los Colibris on my list of places to try for about six months. My wife and I were quite excited to try a higher level of Mexican quisine. The menu was quite inventive. Sometimes too much so. Adding coconut to ceviche felt counter versus complementary. The wait staff was welcoming and knowledgeable. However, the ambience missed. Tables were way too close together. We felt like we were in economy on a crowded plane. The entrance made us think we were entering an office building so did nothing to create the experience the food delivered on.
Unfortunately, the meal ended with the bill containing a full colour ad for Barbados (odd even if it had been for Mexico) along with a $2 charge for extra tortillas. The waiter split a wonderful tortilla soup appetizer no charge but for some reason felt compelled to add a nominal charge for tortillas. As we left, the quite friendly hostess at the onset was busy chatting up two fellow workers. We left through the sterile exit a bit confused and wishing the total experience lived up to the entrees.

A little bit expensive, but the food is authentic.
I had the "sopa de tortilla" which was good though the chicken felt a little bit dry; then "chili en nogada" which I really loved it, and a delicious "Tres leches" as a dessert.
Overall a good experience.

I dined at Los Colibris recently with some friends & I was more then impressed with ambiance & quality of the food. The staff are very attentive as well which is always a bonus in my opinion. My favourite dish that we ordered was the octopus best I've had in a long time with its unique flavours & heat. Defiantly would come back again & recommend it to others.

This is my second time going to Los Colibris and I liked it just as much as the first time.
The restaurant is beautifully decorated and the food and service are superb! I have quite a few food allergies and the server was able to inform and accommodate me with pleasure.
Due to my dairy allergy, he recommended the coconut sorbet for dessert and I have never sorbet so good before.
I would definitely go there again.

We ordered the corn mayo and cotija cheese soup to start. Excellent!! Very different flavours. We both loved it. Then had a chicken entree that was similar to a chilaquies. Not spicy but rich and delicious.
Our waiter was wonderful. Very friendly yet professional.

Bustling place with crisp white table linen and comfortably spaced tables. Good, authentic menu with very knowledgeable staff to explain the dishes. Very good tasty food at reasonable prices considering it is in the heart of Theatre District. Would recommend and visit again.
Los Colibris was recommended on a few we ...
Los Colibris was recommended on a few websites for modern Mexican food (not fusion) in the Toronto area near Union Station. I had dinner here with my brother on a recent business trip, we tried one of the specialty dishes (stuffed peppers with walnut sauce), a recipe of the chef's Grandmother, which was unlike anything I'd ever had before, in a good way - creamy texture, subtle spices, rich flavours - more French than Mexican. It was difficult to chose which starter dishes to have so as to not overwhelm the main course - they specialize in ceviches. We did a shrimp starter (Camarones al a Diabla) as well as the homemade guacamole.
Although being quite full from dinner, we didn't want to miss the dessert as we'd heard they have a pastry chef on board. The flavours of coffee, chocolate, cinnamon all combined in an upscale churro style pastry and did not disappoint.
Worth finding this restaurant and trying some modern Mexican food, the hardest part is determining what you don't want to order from the menu.

Friendly, knowledgeable staff go out of their way to ensure you enjoy your dining experience. All entrées, main courses, drinks were top drawer. Second visit and each time has been a unique experience. Open kitchen is a nice plus.

Last minute dinner reservation, ended up here for a friends birthday dinner on a Friday night.
It wasn't busy at all. Lots of staff standing around .
We ordered the spicy shrimp, the chicken, tortilla soup and a salad ,.
We had to send the shrimp back, it was cold (suppose to be served hot)
The waiter forgot our drink orders.
The decor was very basic and cookie cutter . We really couldn't understand the theme of this place with the Mexican music in the background but our waiter was Australian .
Would not recommend for anything !

The food was spectacular, the service was even better. And top it all off the staff went above and beyond to accommodate the special request to have 3 roses delivered with a note during dessert! We will definitely be back .... Thank you so much for making my friend's birthday so special and memorable!

This was my second visit. Great to see better quality Mexican food available in the city showing Canadians that burritos is not what Mexican food is about. The service at los Colibris is great; staff have been schooled in proper service. The restaurant is very attractive and by the standards of the day, not at all noisy. A lot of thought has gone into the menu and prices are reasonable. On my first visit everyone was enthusiastic about their suppers. This time enthusiasm was down and I was disappointed to see the menu virtually unchanged from before.

Went to Los Colibris for my birthday on August 27th. I love this restaurant, the décor is nice, the staff are amazing and the food is delicious! Special praise for our Aussie waiter and Steve who are both AMAZING!!!! Steve is a lifesaver, literally!

We've been about six times and previously enjoyed it but this time, not so much. The appetizers were bla and nothing special. They changed the octopus item and it was not nearly as good as before. Ditto for the stuffed pepper entrée. We treated two other couples so it was a big night out that was disappointing in terms of the food.

Fabulous food, attentive and professional staff provided a wonderful evening for us. Traditional ceviche a hit, but the star of the night was the whole fresh fish perfectly cooked, unique and delicious sauce and vegetable accompaniments. It looked and tasted so good my dining companion "helped me" finish my dish,
