We look forward to a special meal here when we come through Annapolis on our boat. It is always consistent; portions can be split which is plenty of food and makes for good value. Old, classic steakhouse ambience can't be beat if that is what you are looking for.

Lewnes' is a classic steakhouse, but it is more than a cut above mass-market joints like Outback or Texas Road House. Sam Lewnes began serving the public in 1916. Today his descendants are still doing just that, with loving care and attention to detail clearly evident in the prime beef, perfectly trimmed and exactingly cooked. There are also a few chicken and seafood entrées for those who don't care for beef but are with someone who does.
There is a full bar with skilled bartenders handling a fine selection of distilled spirits. There is also a world-renowned wine list for those special occasions. To accompany our drinks we ordered fresh tomatoes and onions with a light vinaigrette; we enjoyed these with a complimentary fresh warm onion boule.
We ordered petite filets mignon. Lewnes' steaks tend a little to the rare side, so I ordered medium rare while my dining partner ordered medium. Both filets were spot on what we expected, and they were superb. Richly marbled, they had the perfect sear top and bottom, and the middles were micrometer precise in terms of cooking, mine just to the rare side of medium rare and my partner's just to the medium side of medium rare. Lewnes' serves its steaks in butter but is happy, as noted on the menu, to omit the butter on request. There was enough butter on our filets to impart a light flavor without overwhelming the richness of the beef.
Sides are well chosen, fresh and of high quality, and properly prepared and presented. We ordered sautéed asparagus, nice fat and juicy spears, and richly beefy Lyonnais potatoes. Our server let us in on a secret that might better have been printed on the menu, i.e., any given side portion is big enough that it will probably serve four people. We asked for half portions to share of the asparagus and potatoes and were more than amply fed.
Our server was attentive and prompt but never intrusive: props! Prices are not low; you pay for what you get, but you definitely get what you pay for.

When we arrived the setting was nicely lit and romantic. Nice quaint restaurant. We ordered the filet mignon, lyonnaise potatoes and sautéed asparagus all which were delicious. The steak was the tenderest well done steak I've had from any steakhouse. Will be back again.

Great service and as my waiter (Sean) said, "I don't want to over sell it, but the food speak for itself". Do yourself a favor, skip the chain steakhouse and go to this restaurant. You are not going to regret it.

I've been eating here for 20 years. I have eaten at steak houses all over the country and this is still my favorite. I went to another "prime beef"steak house last week and it was so poor I made an excuse to come back to Lewnes' from New York City to get properly picked and cooked prime steak. I would like to know what happened to all of the wine they used to have. The wine list from 15 years ago beat anything in the country I've ever seen. The cuts of meat were also creative rather than just a transverse section of the Psoas Major. I am sad to see the wine list and the steak cuts have been "dumbed" down or modernized over the years but it is still world class. Skip the chain restaurant and go to Lewnes'.

We can never say enough good things about Lewnes Steakhouse. Time and again we are able to enjoy a truly memorable steak dinner without the pretention that seems to be the norm at other upscale restaurants. I would not hesitate to recommend Lewnes to anyone looking for a steak dinner that cannot be matched, great atmosphere and perfect service.

Plush, Quiet Dining Room. Great Service. Excellent for a Special Date with that Special Someone. Great Wine List, Simple Menu, and Food prepared exactly as ordered. Parking can be tough and prices are HIGH, but you know that when you make your reservation, I would assume. Make reservations early or you will have to go early, due to later reservations being booked already. Enjoyed the evening.

Love love love this restaurant - we have visited more than once while staying in Annapolis. Food is amazing and the service is friendly and attentive. Bar up front was a little over the top the night we were there, but mostly amusing if you could stay back away from the banter. Definitely worth the time to get there and the cost - which isn't inexpensive!

I really enjoyed our meal and everything was perfect. It was out 34th wedding anniversary but I am not sure but around midnight I got extremely ill and diarrhea. I am not sure it was from my dinner because everything was good. I just know it take a lot for me to get ill and it happened very fast.

Made reservations for 7PM, arrived early and was seated right away. My girlfriends birthday, host came by to wish her a happy birthday and desert was on the house. Food was excellent, service was great, very nice atmosphere. A place to go if you want to be alone with your date.

Lewnes's doesn't disappoint. It is very similar to A Ruth's Chris type steakhouse but independent, locally owned and operated. You get a nice feel for that local ownership with the service staff, many of whom are family.

Everything was fantastic! The service, food, atmosphere, and location combined make this restaurant exceptional. The aged steaks are well worth the cost! I would like to find something to say that could be improved, but during our dinner everything was perfect. Lewnes is not inexpensive, but the establishment does provide an exceptional total dining experience.

Service was too slow - server was knowledgeable but assumed never asked how to pace the meal. It was our first time there so we had a lot of questions about the food and menu.
Salad which had the word special in it was not special - lamb was great. Potatoe chips were over cooked - she called them French fries. She never offered hollandaise for our meat - not planning to return.

Lewnes offers a lovely old-time ambiance that you rarely get anymore- nice and dark enough for intimate conversation and feeling like you're the only ones there. The steaks are beautifully prepared and always tender and why we return again and again. This time, we brought our new neighbors, both steak-lovers, who said it was the best restaurant experience they'd ever had! To round out this review, the service is caring but not intrusive. It was as if we were the waiter's only diners.
We'll be back.

The server, Amy, was wonderful. She was there when we needed her and let us take our time. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and really helped us enjoy the evening and the delicious food. The clams casino were great, they had a crunchiness on the outside and a creaminess on the inside. The crab balls needed a little more crab. We split the cowboy steak which was done to perfection. The mashed potatoes were rich and smooth. The creamed spinach had a little sweet taste that had me intrigued. All of the staff were friendly and did their jobs very well. It seemed like everyone worked as a team. We had a very wonderful evening, the food could not have been better. At the end, we were surprised with a brownie with ice cream which capped off a lovely evening.

Our server was excellent. She made perfect recommendations. We let the staff know it was our wedding anniversary and our dessert and coffe was comped. The steak was delicious and the sides were fantastic. We have dropped over $300 for a comparable dinner in Vegas (our check was half of that). We had a wonderful time.

Hands down the best steak I have had thus far. They even gave my husband a complimentary birthday dessert. I would go back and recommend them. Thank You Lewnes for an Awesome experience.
