Lemaire at The Jefferson Hotel Ratings and Reviews
Lemaire offered a truly exquisite experience that we'll remember for a very long time. The night was truly special in every detail. Our waiter, Matt, was the real deal and offered a league of service I wouldn't have guessed was possible. Ambiance was cozy. Food was bursting with complex flavor tones from the appetizer to dessert. Finally, to top the evening off, a leisurely stroll inside the Jefferson was the perfect ending.
Thank you Matt and team at Lemare!
Very fine restaurant, comfortable, quiet and elegant in a standard way. The menu is rather standard but has some
good touches, such as very good deserts. Truly interesting wine list for European items, American less so. Very good pace: every thing arrives just when it should. We had exceptional service and a very fine evening. There is also an active bar.
We celebrated my wife's birthday and Valentine's Day. We have been many times at the Lemaire and always found it excellent, but this time it exceeded all our expectations far beyond anything we have experienced before.
Thank you to the staff for making it our most memorable visit ever.
Celebrating our Third anniversary with my wife at the Jefferson tonight for the first time and it was fenomenal. Our waitress Carissa was excellent and Shawn was an expert with wine. We had the best dinner we could of asked for. We’ll definitely dine in for a second, third and on.
Wonderful food, great historical location, and the service was impeccable. Our waitress was not only unobtrusive, but friendly, and extremely knowledgeable about the menu. We found her outstanding. She made our 34th anniversary dinner memorable. Unfortunately, I can't remember her name due to "senioritis" , but she home schools her two children. She deserved every bit of the large tip we left, if not substantially more than that. This was our first meal at Lemaire, and will not be the last. The venue and staff made this a special night.
There is no wonder that this is the #1 restaurant in Richmond. Now, of course, that varies dep0ending on the number of reviews that come in but trust me... this is THE #1 regardless. Food, service, atmosphere. Oh yeah! This is fine dining in a glorious hotel. The entrees are superb as is everything else HOWEVER....there is any doubt about picking an appetizer.... the chicken fried oysters... OH YEAH!!!
My friend was in from out of town and had heard about the Jefferson. I had only been at the Jefferson for afternoon tea (amazing!) and brunch (also amazing!) The high points of dinner were lovely service and very attentive staff, beautiful quiet dining room, no pressure to leave. The so-so points were that the food was - I would say - middle of the road. It certainly wasn't bad, but we both got tenderloin, and it just wasn't... special. It was prepared as we had ordered it, but for 30+ dollars I expect maybe a little more than grilled tenderloin, a sauce on the side that really did not seem to fit the meat, and a portion of potatoes and grilled broccoli. Next time I might try something more interesting on the menu, maybe it's just the tenderloin is a basic dish. I will definitely go back but will probably try something else the next time.
We decided to try this restaurant for our anniversary dinner. The hotel is beautiful and has a classic grand feeling, but that was the only reason the visit was worth it. Lemaire restaurant was overpriced and the atmosphere was lacking ambiance and warmth. The dinner menu presentation was nice, as it had our years of marriage printed on it, but the menu itself was boring and straightforward. No special dishes you would expect to see in a high priced restaurant. We were very disappointed with the menu choices. The service was good.
The food and service are unbelievable. The cocktails are okay but the wine and champagne list are out of this out-of-this-world. My partner made captain and they made her feel very special from the personalized menus to a marzipan airplane on her dessert plate.
Food was fantastic! Waitress was very attentive. This restaurant was first class UNTIL, until our dinner was over- we were Stuffed. At the end of our meal the waitress asked if we wanted to have some more of our bottle wine or if she should give it to us to go. They came back and told us they gave our wine to someone else, do we want their wine or we could wait around and they would run to their hotel room and get it back. It was said rather snobby, like one wine is like the other. Totally wrong way to handle it. This was told to us by our waitress, a manager didn't even to come over to apologize. Not handled well. I would come back but will not consider them a special restaurant again, it became average.
Lamaire went above and beyond in every aspect of the service, from food quality and presentation to the wait staff. Our appetizers, meals, and dessert were fantastic and to our surprise very filling (sometimes you leave restaurants wondering where the rest of your meal was). It’s the best meal we’ve had in Richmond and didn’t have a single thing we could critique. If you’re celebrating an occasion I highly recommend you consider here.
Service was excellent...the best part. We were seated in a smaller room which was somewhat quiet though were right beside the door to bar area which is noisy with music and voices. Bread served was dry, butter nothing special. Beet salad was ordinary...salad of greens with beets on top. Steak was OK, tender but not that flavorful. Potatoes and broccoli were good. Apple coffee cake was very dry, not at all tasty....so didn't eat much. Had apples to the side that were cold...thought would be warm. Ice cream was ordinary. Will not be dining there again.
Lemaire has a long history of being one of Richmond's best restaurants. It has had a 5 star rating. I have gone there for decades for very special occasions. When I placed reservations I expected the best. This last visit leads me to believe their attention to detail is slipping. Our table had a view of the bar, was right in front of a fireplace and right beside the waiter's station. The bar area had multiple people wearing baseball caps and extremely casual clothes. Our waiter had awful timing, it took forever to get drinks after sitting down and his pacing throughout the meal was way off. Our main courses looked as if they had been sitting under lights for too long. My Rockfish was over cooked and dry. It's still a good restaurant but with so many amazing restaurants in Richmond these days, far from the best. They really need to step up their game!
Overall is was great! We enjoyed everything we ordered except the beef brisket appetizer. It was four dried up pieces of beef that semi rehydrated after they poured the broth on it. Kind of shocked that any reputable chef would send that out. The garnishes on the plate were not hot. We didn't complain as it was our daughter's birthday and didn't want any negativity on the special day. For the price everything should have been beyond perfect. I would also like to mention that the service was outstanding!
Hotel dining has almost died out in the US and in many other countries due to the proliferation of so many fine restaurants in cities. In general, the restaurants in city hotels have been relegated to aging dowagers in various states of disrepair and seediness, frequented mostly by nostalgic old-timers. Lemaire, situated in arguably the finest hotel in Richmond, the lovingly restored Jefferson is extraordinary in many regards. The public rooms including the dining room are at their neoclassical best featuring the extraordinary workmanship of a past era. This alone would almost be enough, but the restaurant really surpasses expectations by serving truly excellent and creatively prepared dishes like the three luscious scallops suspended in a broth containing shrimp and vegetable puree. It seems that you cannot miss with anything with the Chef's skill and love coming through. The wine selection offers a broad choice of styles and prices with many reasonable priced bottles and glasses. Service was thoroughly professional, non-intrusive, helpful and efficient. This may be the only hotel restaurant that I am aware of that is worthy of a journey rather than the default place to eat during inclement weather.
Our anniversary dinner at Lemaire was wonderful!! Lemaire never disappoints. Our usual table wasn’t available due to a private party, but the table reserved for us was even better. Our server even arranged to have a bottle of champagne that our friends dropped off taken up to our room and chilled for after dinner. We look forward to many more wonderful evenings at The Jefferson and Lemaire!
Love that it is quiet and you can talk in a normal voice! Service and atmosphere were perfect for our anniversary dinner. Menu choices were so so, nothing too exciting. Food was prepared well with very nice garnishes, accompaniments! Only bad was I had the special, Kobe beef, and it was stringy, with unchewable fibers! Nothing like the Kobe I've had before.
celebrated my birthday at Lemaire. I am gluten free and appreciate the numerous selections available and some can be modified. The service was attentive without being over bearing. The food portions were just right, beautifully presented and delicious. I like the smaller dining rooms that provide a quieter atmosphere for conversation.
Overjoyed is the word that describes our feelings when we entered the hotel and saw that the seasonal decorations were still surrounding us as we waited for our table. We purposefully arrived two hours early to enjoy hot chocolate and the ambiance that is the Jefferson Hotel. When it was time for dinner, we were seated by the fireplace and enjoyed an exquisite meal! This is our favorite restaurant for celebrating our anniversary.
Magnificent and atmospheric dining venue and bar in a beautifully decorated hotel. Pre-prandial drinks at a cozy and comfortable bar and then dinner in one of the restaurant's small dining room with fireplace. The food is well-conceived and prepared and served by waiters knowledgeable about the dishes and their ingredients. A fine time!
I know it was New Year's Eve and expectations should be moderated, but this experience was a lot less enjoyable than we had anticipated. Service was extremely slow. We sat in the bar area and there was no heat. (The tiny space heater on the floor was laughable.) The food was just OK. Although the hotel was beautifully decorated for the holidays, our dining experience was barely festive. We left as soon as we could just to get someplace warm.
